On Month 4 Of Viibryd

Updated

Over the past 15 years I've been on most all the anti-depressant medications on the market: effexor, celexa, paxil, cymbalta, wellbutrin, and prozac for a long time. I started with a new psychiatrist in January of this year and he started me on Viibryd (I'd been on 30mg prozac for the last ten years). He also put me on lamictal because, well, the more the merrier?

Anyway, to make a long story short, I was doing pretty well on the Viibryd and Lamictal so I decided heck, I'll try and go off meds and see what happens. I titrated down over 3 months during this past summer and things went from bad to worse. Basically I became suicidally depressed so I quickly went back on Viibryd. I quickly felt less suicidal but haven't fully 'recovered.'

For the past three months I've been on 40mg of Viibryd. I can't say I'm feeling good, but nor do I feel horribly depressed--really I just feel numb. It would actually be nice to feel something actually. I am very physically active and have a small social life but during most all the activities and interactions I have I do not actively enjoy them. I know on an intellectual level that they are fun, and I can feel some enjoyment, but nothing deep at all. I feel like a robot in many ways. I also feel very spacey, like my brain is slowed down and dulled--very frustrating to say the least. It is often even hard to find the right words to talk during a 'normal' conversation. Last week I went from 40mg to 30mg and initially felt better (i.e. I could feel more emotions) but am not doing so great at the moment.

Reading the other posts on here I gather that a lot of other people have had some rough times on this med. I'm especially curious to know people's reactions who have been on this med for a longer time, like a year or more (I know it just came out in early 2011).

That's my brief story. Thanks for reading.

I was wondering if you are still taking lamictal with viibryd. I have been on lamictal for over a year now. I was also on ability as well, but had weight gain. Changed to viibryd and lamictal. I have been on it for a few months, but when I increased to 40mg had to go back to 20 cuz of side affects. I have been doing really good on these 2 meds! It's taking me a long time to get here. I was just curious to see if you we're on both or just viibryd. Thank you for sharing your story

Hey K,
Glad to hear you're doing well on your meds.
I'm not on lamictal anymore. I see my psychiatrist in a week and wouldn't be surprised if he recommends adding it.
You mentioned you had side effects on the 40mg Viibryd. Mind sharing what they are? Also, what dosage of lamictal are you on, if you don't mind sharing?

@Nick,

If it's still of any help, I located another thread here in the forums with over 700 replies on user's experiences taking Viibryd. You can have a look at it here:

There's also one other thread here with over 100 replies on the topic of Viibryd Side Effects:

I hope this info helps!

Hi Nick - In the mid 90's I stopped taking my prozac because I felt great and thought I "was cured." Unfortunately, I have come to believe that clinical depression is like diabetes - its a life sentence re meds (please someone prove me wrong!!!). - if you are feeling great - lucky you - that means your meds are working for you - do not stop taking them.

In the past 15 years I have tried everything under the sun but have never returned to that "sweet spot" for longer than a few months at a time.
Am trying Viibryd now.

Good luck to ya!
