Ohio Pain Doctor Dayton Ops

Updated

Hello, I am a 24 patient diagnosed with foraminal stenosis, lower lumber facet arthopathy, degenerative retrolisthesis, and neuropathy. I was put on Hydrocodone 7.5mg 4XD (120 monthly) three years ago. I had to leave my original pain management doctor after over two years because they dropped my insurance. I had to rely on my PCP to prescribe my medicine to me, but she dropped it down to 5mg - 90 a month until I get into a new pain management doctor (due to see one the 20th) despite my body having built a tolerance and being used to the higher dosage. I didn't complain, I've just dealt with more pain and have been put on sleeping medicine to try to get rest. My doctor has taken me off, put me back on, denied refills and treated me like some junkie, saying I'm too young and she's never seen someone my age needing these. It took her 5 months to get me into OPS and the only reason she wrote my last script is because my insurance called her office and told her she was close to having a complaint filed against her for mistreatment and unfair judgement. I do not misuse my medicine, I do not drink or do drugs, and I haven't asked her to put my dose back to where it was out of fear. I am curious and nervous as to what my new pain management doctor will do. I would like to be back on my original dose and monthly allowance, but o don't want to sound like the junkies thinking they can place an order of whatever they want. I don't know how to bring it up, the original dose worked best for me, and the extra pill a day allowed me to sleep. I'm not sure of he'll even prescribe to me yet, I don't know how it works. I saw my original PM doctor for 6 months before being placed on these little devils.
Any advice on how to proceed? My MRI alone is the proof that I have extensive back problems, and my medication history shows that I tried many other non-narcotic medications and treatments before they ever put me on this medicine, and I never asked or suggested it, for I had no idea of what it was.
I can't keep going through withdrawal because the doctors think I'm too young. I have dealt with it, but now as a mother of two little ones (had children young, after I was told I'd be crippled by 40), I cannot have it happen anymore.

Well, the truth is you'll most likely have to give up this medication altogether and try something else.

Under the new regulations, not only can your general practitioner no longer prescribe pain medications for long-term use, except in certain rare cases, but this particular medication is one that the FDA and DEA are trying to switch over to being one that's also only prescribed for short term use, such as for a few weeks after someone has had surgery or been in an accident.

Learn more Vicodin details here.

As to brining up any particular medication or dosage, your best bet is not to do that, at all. Let your medical records speak for that, when you see the new doctor. If you request a specific medication, then most doctors will see that as drug seeking behavior.

I don't mind trying something else if it will work. I honestly hate having to take this medicine 3-4 times a day.
I have been on Lyrica, Cymbalta, Meloxicam, Ultram, Gabapentin, and about twelve different anti-depressants. It was a terrible terrible time of trial and error, the Vicodin was one of the last things tried.
I have read of long-acting pain medication, but all the ones I've looked up are the ones I hear junkies love. I don't want something too strong, but something I'd only have to take once a day would be great.
I hope to eventually not have to take anything, that is my goal.
So will pain management review my records and continue my medication and slowly wean me off and place me on something else? Or should I prepare to get told no more, have fun withdrawaling, see you next month?
My doctor wrote me enough to last until the 20th, so I'm very nervous. Usually when I see a new doctor, they ask what someone my age is doing there and then I go through hell getting help. My age is my worst enemy.
I won't ask for anything, but it's hard not to get emotional when the doctor leaves me with no relief and I know I get to come home to my family with bad news that I'll be sick for a while.
I have been going through this pain since 15, and thought I'd just have to live with it. When I finally fouvd relief through medication, I was able to lose weight and resume a somewhat normal lifestyle. I was able to be a mother, cook, clean and be a good spouse.
When they take me off, I'm absolutely worthless. Showers are painful, I can't life my babies or even have them touch me, and my husband comes home to a dirty house and me unable to fill spousal duties. He hates when they stop my medication, it stresses him out and makes for an unhappy time.
Sorry to vent, I'm just so worried.
My records show years of tests, medicines, shots, RFA, therapy, and imaging that shows progressive deterioration. So if the doctor is good and cares, he will do what he can to slowly take me off Vicodin and onto something else that works long-term, and hopefully non-narcotic, if that exists!
Thank you for the advice!
