Oc's Vs. Op's. What Did They Do To Oxycontin

what did they do when they reformulated oxycontin.it is said,the only thing was to make it harder to crush.forgive my language,that is the biggest bunch of bulls*** i ever heard.there is as much difference in the two,as in male and female.everyone knows the story about abuse,crushing,snorting etc,etc.my problem is i have fibromyalgia,chronic fatigue,arthritis,several things wrong with discs in spine.my right foot needs two surgerys and both knees need surgery.when i was on oxycontin i felt close to normal.no it did not take care of all the pain,but at least i could function.now i'm searching for a replacement and there is nothing.first thing you will say is oxycodone.i'm on 30 mg more times than i care to tell.there is no comparison between oxycontin and oxycodone.toatally two different medicines.myself,i am so sensitive i can tell the difference just when they switch manufactures.that is what i'm going through now.it didn't start with oxycodone.the first time was with indomethicine. anti-inflamatory.the pharmacist told me she didn't have the regular brand.i thought a month wouldn't hurt.within two weeks i was in so much pain,my hans swelled and my fingers locked,my arms hurt so bad.i would wake up and it felt like my left arm only was in severe withdrawal.it was as if i was not taking any at all.but remeber,the pharamicist did replace it with another one from a different manufacturer.when the changed oc's to op's,the doctor wrote a prescription for 15mg,to take 3,3 times a day.it done something,but not much.when i went back and told him they were not working,he didn't like it..so he doubled it to 30mg's..it has taken one year to adapt to this and it still does not get rid of all the pain.i went to the doctor over a week ago,and that for the first time in i don't know when,was a good visit.i bought a house in feburary this year.it has been so hard,but of course i give GOD all the glory.ii bought the house of my dreams.i never thought i could qualify for a house like this on my own.plus be able to make the house payment.so for the last 6 months,i have been happier than i have been in many years.so its kinda like everyday i face a hard day with the medicine,but i would of never made it if i hadn't been as happy as i have been.i call it having a happy heart which makes these problems easier to cope with.but as i was saying about going to the doctor and every thing is well,i took my prescriptions to the pharmacists and when i got home i not only had one but two meds that were from different manufacturers.once you leave the store with the meds you cannot take them back.so i started taking them on thrus.and by monday its as if i'm taking nothing.there is no where on my body that dosen't hurt.i have said everything to the pharmacist.she said there is nothing she can do unless the doctor writes another prescription.i called to go in friday,and he is always in there on friday.well you guessed it.he wasn't going to be in on friday. now i have to wait until tues.to even be able to talk to him.this is friday.you would never believe how much pain i am in just sitting here trying to get this message wrote.it hurts to even sweep or dust a floor.what makes it so hard on me is i don't like to be still.i am a person who's mind has always raced.i have to be doing something all the time.with fibro,i do pace myself and i do have to take breaks.but just as soon as i feel the first relief i'm back up doing something.i have never been one to sit down in front of a tv and just watch the set.if i did nothing else i was always crochetting.many people can sit and watch tv and crochett.or other things.it will seem like an eternity before tues. gets here.if it gets to bad i can always go to theE.R..BUT DO YOU RELIZE HOW MUCH MONEY THAT IS FOR A FEW PAIN PILLS JUST TO GET ME TO TUESDAY.IT WOULD BE OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS.TO END THIS MESSAGE I WOULD ASK FOR ANY INPUT ABOUT THE DIFFERENCE IN OC'S AND OP'S.ANYONE WITH FIBRO,HAVE YOU FOUND ANY WAY TO GET ANY RELIEF.I CAN USE ANY ADVICE I CAN GET EXCEPT I MAY AS WELL GO AHEAD AND END IT ONCE AND FOR ALL.I THINK ABOUT THAT ENOUGH AS IT IS.I WILL GLADLY ACCEPT KINDLY ADVICE.GOD'S BLESSING UPON ANYONE WHO READS THIS.

I'm so sorry to hear about your pain. I too have the same problem. I have had two back surgeries, Knee, foot, and hystorectomy.* I have had Fibro. since the early 80's. I'm am so tired of dealing with the pain also. YES, There is a difference in the OP's / OC's. OC's worked very well. When they put me on the other op's I went through withdrawal and the pain was and is still very painful. I did try to end it. I'm so tired of hurting that I didn't want to be here any longer. I begged God to forgive me I felt out of everyone he would understand what I was going through. As you can see I lived, my husband found me and rushed me to the hospital. I was so mad. I pray that the new system gets here for I do not want to forsake my God. I don't know what to say to help you except that you're not alone. Hang in there. THE US is buying cheaper brands to save money. Do some research they're doing it with all kinds of medicine. It is coming from India, China and other places.

i would recomend the abg 80's it oxycodone but this particular brand seems to work better then the others.its the closest thing i have found to the origional oc 80's.

We have had many people posting on here about problems with the new Oxycontin formulation, both that it doesn't work as well and that it can cause odd side effects. I know that Purdue claims it is supposed to work the same, but real world users are not experiencing good results with it, in most cases.

Unfortunately, the ones mentioned by Joe, with the ABG marking, which were manufactured by Watson have been discontinued and are not longer available.

Have either of you discussed your other options with your respective doctors?

Something that you may want to look into is the Duragesic patch, which contains the active ingredient Fentanyl, it is a very potent narcotic and is available as both the generic and name brand. Each patch is time released and lasts for 3 days and the side effects are similar to other narcotics, nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and dry mouth.

Please tell me. Maybe you will know. I am so tired of the pain. oxycodone op's don't help. Norco barely touches it. I broke my back in the 80's and also found out that I have Fibro. When no one knew what it was. I'm begging my doctor for help and I thought that if I increased my meds it would help. He won't do it. It's okay though because I'm finding out the the op's don't work anyway. Is there anything out there that can I can use other than oxy.? I need relief along with thousands of other ones out there. Is there any one out there can recommend any other drug that can give me some quality of life? I don't like being labeled a drug seeker or an addict. I don't abuse my meds. Thanks to the ones out there that have have made it worse for us who have gone through surgeries and have chronic pain from fibromyalgia. The government is making all kinds of money from such ones like myself that wasn't educated in the manufactures out there that are giving us something close to placebos. Shame on all who are involved in this. I'm thank full that we do have resources such as this web site to see why were in pain. Wow I though I was the only one. The doctors kept telling me I was taking too much pain meds. Get this I was given 2 oxy. op's twice a day 20mg. and two norco 2x's a day for break through. My sciatic, whole back from feet to neck etc.. plus this op's are giving me worse headaches and stomachaches than I have ever had before. Please help. I don't know how to follow this discussion. Maybe some one can tell me. thank you.

I Know how you feel. I've been living like this since the 80's. Having to beg and plead with doctors. I have had 2 back surgeries and so much more. I just got my MRI back and it's not good. I refuse to have anymore operations. I too wanted to end it. In fact I tried. I guess I didn't know that the oxycodone op's were fake. They use to work years ago but sense they have changed them they don't do a thing. What I want to say is that I am searching for help on this site. I'm sure that someone out there knows what kind of drug will help. Yes, it gets tiresome to go from dr. to dr. head doctor's too. I know that there has to be something out there that can give us some quality of life in stead of laying in bed in agony. I would like to be able to function and do normal everyday things like clean my house. Go on a picnic or hey even go for a walk. This system wont last long. Were all dying in one way or another. God wants us to live to help others. Just wait for Revelations 21: 1-5 it helps me. take care.

Sherry, as I suggested in my other post, you may want to look into Fentanyl patches, it is a very potent narcotic that is over 80 times stronger than Morphine.

The patches are available as the name brand Duragesic and as generics and are time released, so each one lasts 72 hours.

The side effects are similar to what you're used to from other narcotics and may include: nausea, dizziness, constipation and dry mouth.

Since they are time released, they often give better pain control than other medications that are in a regular formulation.

Ok just gotta clear something up. Oxycontin is oxycodone. It sounds very ignorant to say they're two diff medications. It's like saying advil is better than ibuprofen. The roxicodone brand 30s n generics are instant release, the oxycontin are just larger amounts of oxycodone but in an XR/SR/Whatever u wanna call timed release pills. The only reason they feel different to u is because the XRs last all day long and the 30IR only last a couple hours. It's the same drug in oxycontin(come in 10,20,30,40,60, and 80mg form), IR roxies(5s, 10s, 20s, 30s), and also perc____s(5, 7.5,and10mg/with 325mg or more of Tylenol). The drug same thing is in all of those, and that is oxycodone. Look on your bottle(we script holders have that privilege) and you'll see that it says oxycodone hcl, as do those 3Os and percs. If anything the short lived release has just psyched u into falsely thinking that the 30s are a different medication than oxycontin. It's a different delivery method, not a different medication. Just like oxycontin OCs and oxycontin OPs are the Same drug(medication), it's the inactive ingredients that are different, which affects the delivery of the drug. So just to make this clear...and any doctor or pharmacist will concur....oxycontin is freaking oxycodone. Oxycodone is oxycodone. They're both the same, but the fillers n binders are not. You've made the most common misconception, and to people educated in pharmacology, it can really makes you look like u don't kno what you're talking about. I've won alot of bets with people who were so adamant that their oxycontin was a different drug than oxycodone that they were willing wager their so called oxycodoneless oxycontin. If you're still gonna be bullheaded and ignorant, please tell me what's in ur oxycontin if it's not oxycodone.
If you wanna actually listen to someone who's had multiple herniated discs since he was 15 years old, and studied everything the doc wanted in my body, I actually have some useful info.
You're using the 30s wrong; it's your docs fault. Ur used to a 12 hr sustained dose of oxycodone. Ur OC 80s gave u ~35ng of oxycodone right away and slowly released the other oxycodone as the day went on. Ur 30s give it to u all at once and after ~4 hours, you only have about 15mg in ur system and no more Iacocca get released like your OC oxycodone did. The OPs are "supposed" to work like the OCs did, and they do, but some people have trouble digesting them, therefore you might not absorb all the oxycodone. Ive seen them in my stool. What a waste of perfectly good oxycodone right?
Now for the relief people like u n me need, we need two things: some sort of XR to take a couple times a day everyday. Oxycodone is by far the most prescribed drug, so most people end up with OPs for their XR dose. The next thing you need is something for breakthrough pain. That's what your thirties are for.
If I was your doctor and neither oxycodone 30s nor oxycodoneOPs helped you much, id say the dones are done.
I would give you a prescription for oxymorphone, which is brand name Opana. That would replace your oxycodone OPs. For breakthrough pain I'd either try to stick with some sort of IR oxycodone, although since you don't like them, and your oxycodone from both the 30s and your OPs is metabolized into oxymorphone, I'd probably put you on dilaudid(active drug hydromorphone) 4mgs as needed.
Don't forget to take an NSAID like naproxen(aleve) or advil(ibu) because opiates only mask the pain. They interrupt your brains pain signals but they don't fix pain at all. Advil actually causes what's hurting to stop flaring up. Obviously it can't fix everything but opiates fix nothing.
Hopefully u and your doctor can figure out a combo of pills that will do the trick. Very strange that you felt relief from oxycodone in the OC form but it won't help as an OP or IR oxycodone. That's what makes medicine so interesting. Different people react differently to the same drug in the same amount. Or in this case the same drug in a different formulation. Best of luck

Thx. For a 20 year RX holder of OxyContin and Percocet best explanation ever seen. Work with your Dr. If he does not listen or work with you , move on. But do your homework first.
