New To Paxil

Updated

I just started taking Paxil two days ago. As of this moment I feel sick and depressed. I started taking Paxil after two weeks of Effexor made my symptoms much worse. I feel like I'm hanging onto my sanity by a thread. All these brief ups and and never ending downs are just too much to deal with on a daily basis. Please Paxil work your magic!!

Hello, Ed! How are you?

Unfortunately, many antidepressants can cause a temporary worsening of symptoms for a few weeks, before things change and your symptoms start to improve. I take one for PMS/perimenopausal irritability and overtime we adjust the dosage, I just tend to expect it for about 3 weeks, before I see an improvement.

The FDA lists Paxil as being an SSRI antidepressant and its typical side effects are listed as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes.

Generally, it will take at least a month, before your body starts to adjust to the medication and for you to know whether or not it's going to work for you.

However, if your symptoms get severely worse or you start to feel suicidal, please seek medical attention immediately.

Is there anything else I can help with?

Hi there, I've been on Paxil 60mg for 24 years! I can no longer function! If you're going to take it use it short term! It's ruined my life! After 5 years of use withdrawal from it is impossible!
I have tried everything

There are lots of SSRI's on the market. I liked Trazodone and am currently on Mirtazapine. No adverse effects. Are you getting your meds from a regular MD or a psychiatrist? Psychiatrists work with us to find what works for us and does not cause problems. It's my true belief that regular MD's should stay out of our minds and leave them to specialists. I've been on these meds since 1990 and no problems yet. You can have up to 90mg of Mirtazapine (Remeron) for 24 hour period.

It will I guarantee, but don't stay on it for more than 2 years! It's highly addictive! I've been taking it between 40-60mg for 25yrs...After ten years use, bearing in mind at the time it wasn't known, your bodies own serotonin shuts down! As for withdrawal after long term use my psychiatrist I quote told me that in his opinion it is harder to come off than opiates! I'm now having to use Mirtazapine 20mg as combination therapy! There are milder forms of antidepressants (Citalopram) etc, that work just as well! Paxil Kills! Seroxat is what we call Paxil in the UK!
