I have been using OxyContin for over ten years- always chewed it. My back is f----d up from bad surgery (Doc lost his liscence, I lost my life. My new life of this decade consists of surviving which I came to terms w/ over time and through prayer. Let me be clear, I don't give a s--t Y Or how U need it, God loves us all. I'm sorry you hurt so badly, wishing you well, shouldn't have to make peace w/existing in such pain. Wish there were a drug you could take w/o having yo resort to this b/c I believe you really are in pain and can't get the help you need.

Wow Selene, I think you are a drug addict. Oxycontin workes better if takin whole with break through medicine. I have had surgerys to,after the first I was rearended in a taxi 12 days out of surgery. The only reason to snort a pill is to get high from the opoid rush. You are lying to yourself and everyone who loves you. You will be one of the folks that die and the doctor who perscribes gets blamed so he stops writing scripts for people who follow directions.maybe you should ask about suboxin no withdrawl better pain reliever than Oc's. really they work and you will feel human again and care and love its the drugs that are lying to you making you think their your only op0tion dulling your feelings...the good feelings not the pain try the suboxin for a monh you can always go back to what you were doing.These you hold under your tounge till thy dissolve so they work instantly. If you are so miserable you lie to snort pills what will you do when they are not advaible? Kill yourself that time is comming. Maybe you could have a morphine pump put inside you??? you have other options you just like sitting in your own S$%t and gettin high so be honest with yourself and the world people like you, are causing doctors to not even want to risk giving out perc 10's to people who obey the rules and might benifit from a small amt of pain meds. but know because of prople like you doctors are afraid to write od in my state the laws changed because a stste Senators son OD. This is so funny. It's always the people who are taking the same type of meds who are on here lecturing the ones who are just honest about what they're looking to do, and calling THEM addicts! Umm projecting a bit? Does that make you different, or better, because you swallow your meds as directed and someone else takes them in a method that is simply quicker and stronger for a little while? Idk if you know, but I'm quite sure you do, (otherwise why the hell are you even on this site/thread!!) but many medicines can be inhaled, and I even know of a pain management doctor who applies straight up cocaine on a long swab as a ganglion block. Bottom line, we all have out reasons to take these pills. Maybe pain, maybe to feel happy, ie. get high. You are not the judge of people here. Leave that to god or let people you don't even know figure it out themselves. You really think because you wrote a nasty text to get your own anger or whatever off your chest is gonna convince someone not to snort their meds? Lots of those people don't get away with getting the meds/drugs for too long before they get blacklisted. Most people who want to sell or just get high go to some clinic that's, quite frankly, full of drug dealing doctors. There are exceptions! It's not easy to be in real pain and be made to feel like you're an addict before anything has ever even been prescribed. It is definitely a flawed system for many reasons. I totally agree that there are people who abuse or are addicted (totally different things, btw) who have created a problem for those of us who really do need the medicine for what it is prescribed, and for those of us who give a s*** about our lives and take the medicine responsibly, not to mention care about our dr's license! I think one of the reasons a lot of ppl are feeling that the oc's or opanas don't work as well is because the medicine is absorbed differently, so it's not giving them the expected "high" or loopy feeling (semantics, lol) associated with the medicine "working". Once it is in your system around the clock it works the same for me. Took me about 2 weeks before I felt back to normal. But my pain level is the sane now as it was with the other ones, yet at first I was in the same boat. if you're feeling you need more and more over a period of time after your pain's been stabilized, then maybe you need to question yourself as to why. Personally, I've found that it's easy to see any little bit of shadiness with the people who are having mental probs with this medicine. I call it my "shadar". Those people are the ones to stay away from because they are using the medicine for another dangerous or illegal purpose, and they can't be honest because deep down they know that. Umm can you say denial? It's funny when people say they're not in denial, when denial can be completely subconscious. But oh well. It's not at all my job to judge. Those of you pointing the finger and claiming to be one of the people who are legit and say all this god stuff should re-read the bible. I seem to remember something about glass houses? Anyway, narcotics have been tested to use in addition to antidepressants. There's no question that if you're depressed they can make you feel better, whether because you're out of physical, or mental pain. The problem is that it is dangerous because of the risk of suicide in depressed individuals, and if using this medicine to feel happier mentally, you will find you have to go higher and higher and higher to achieve the original result. Most pain management patients get to the therapeutic level with their dr., and can be really honest with them hopefully, then they stay there. If they were to need surgery or have something in addition to their current pain occur, then it makes sense that you would need to go up a bit until healed then taper back down to original dose, as you would if you were on nothing and took percocets temporarily, then went back to taking nothing. That or stay on the increased dosage amount if another chronic problem is added to your existing pain. I personally would love to see chemists come up with some formula that can safely be taken by people with severe depression. There is no reason why anyone should live in physical pain, or mental pain. I think mental pain can be worse actually, but they both suck! Anyway, we ALL have different reasons for how and why we take these things. Some once in a while to party, some who have legit pain but are also addicts, then those fortunate enough to be able to take them responsibly without feeling "addicted". Different than physical dependency. That's something you need to get honest with yourself about. So, to answer the original question, there is no simpe home way to change the formula of this crush proof stuff. You cannot file it or take off the coating or anything at all like that. Every little piece of this new stuff is time released, one, plus it turns into a sticky gooey gel that cannot be used for your intent and purpose. To those who take as directed, that doesn't really matter. If this new formula isn't working as well, talk to your doctor. There are many other effective pain medicines that can be prescribed equivalently. If that's the only one you're willing to be on, that's a bit fishy sounding, and again, honestly is key with that. At least with yourself and your close family if they have to live with it. Being shady and hiding what you're taking, maybe just for fear of being stigmatized by the ignorant folks (they just don't have the knowledge to understand the patient and think everyone who gets even near that stuff will become an addict.) is just going to increase suspicion. Taje them to yout doc and have the doc explainWell, that's a great way to scare away our 3rd graders who are potential future addicts. Anyway, I totally get what it's like to feel so much pain that you'd do anything to relieve it, even snort a pill. Maybe go to the ER, they have way faster methods and hopefully will be able to tell you're in serious pain. Otherwise, tell your PM that what you're taking is not giving you ample pain relief. But let us all realize that all pain is hard, and not a single one of us can judge anyone else because none of us can step into someone else's shoes to see exactly how we feel or are thinking for a few seconds or minutes. I used to think if they could just feel what I feel they would get it!! Unfortunately they don't have that capability, and someone in desperate search of pain relief can seem line a drug seeker. It must be really hard for dr.'s at times. Hey, can you blame them?? In case you're wondering I have trigeminal and occipital neuralgias, frequent migraines (Botox is amazingly helpful), and ulcerative colitis. Been on same dosage for 1 1/2 years at which point I had a hospitalization and bleeding ulcer and went up 5 mg for the breakthrough meds. Since them, about 8 months ago, been on that. Once and a while my head hurts so bad that I snort the IR that I would otherwise swallow. I don't crave more or run out early, but I totally don't look down upon anyone else who has an addiction problem. Especially with real legit pain too. In that case, try the fentanyl patch so you aren't tempting yourself. Life is rough folks. Honesty is key. One more thing- if I "caught" cancer, I'd wonder when the hell cancer became a communicable disease. It's hard to take advice and/or negative criticism from someone who sounds stupid. Not saying you are, but that's the reality. Peace!

Yeah these people that abuse their meds have stigmatized all legitimate pain suffers who are just trying to live. I'm a pain sufferer and a**holes who abuse their meds have made it at times impossible for me to get properly medicated. When you must take medication just to be able to get out of bed it takes all the fun out taking medication. What I've read on this board are post from people looking for a good time. Every time one of these nimrods drop dead it causes a domino affect that I thought was bulls*** until the day came that I had to go to ten different pharmacies to get the medicine I needed. As far as I'm concerned all people looking for a good time should just stop f***ing around.
