New Federal Xanax Laws?

I have done a lot of reading on the new United States 2013 Xanax laws. There aren't any? You can still obtain up to a 6 month supply of any schedule IV (4) medicine which includes Xanax. Some States have limited MD's to writing for a 30 day supply even forcing you to see a Specialist and putting you on a 'performance plan'. Please do not confuse local and State laws with Federal laws!

I haven't come across any new laws pertaining to the use of Xanax in my research either. Were you led to believe that there would be any sort of changes this year?

Erowid tends to have a pretty up to date list of this type of information on an international level if you're interested in having a look:

I hope this helps!

Yes thank you, I am reading about these new rules and regulations in a handful of States, so I googled it as many posters here are asking, and yes its true if you live in certain areas. I think this is outrageous because medicines like Xanax can make you very sick if you stop. Some States are requiring patients to be seen by a Psychiatrist and or sign a Patient Improvement Program. I had not heard of this, and in no way does it affect me. I wonder how many will become sick due to these new laws in Kentucky, New York, Texas it seems, Florida, and I'm sure there is another State or two?

Sorry to read what you have gone through. I live a block away from Arizona and have had no problems obtaining Xanax. I did have one doctor limit me to 40 mg a month once, but that was 4000 mg ago!

I would not want to be on Xanax for years and then forced to stop. I have enough Xanax on hand to last a lifetime but these laws are going to kill people, no question!

Just moved to San Antonio thanks to job relocation and I'm searching for a doc that will write for xanax or klonopin. I've been on them (switching between the two back and forth, med rotation) for years due to PLMD. I can't afford to do the withdrawal thing cuz of work and I don't like the idea of most + cough + alternatives . . . Thanks for any help/info!

I live in MI and just found out about these stupid Xanax laws. Have been on Xanax for years. Always able to obtain 3 month script, Now I find out I must pick the script up in person and take to pharmacy and it was good for only one month. I am calling Dr. tomorrow to see if I now have to go through this procedure every month, not to mention the added cost.

To keep costs lower see if your Doctor will double the strength? I will say generic Xanax are not that costly in larger doses. My refill last month for 90 1mg pills was only 47 cents with my insurance. The 2mg bars were even cheaper!

If your dr or anyone else tells you that a certain med can no longer be rxed, look up the Law and read it. Unfortunately, drs lie. There are no laws that state onky drs of a certaon speciality can write certain rxs, although many drs say there are. For federal laws go to the DEA website. For state laws, go to your states board of pharmacy website. If your dr or pharmacist tells you there are new laws, as them for the reference numbers, so you can look them up.

BL You are right, docs just don't want to mess with it. This is ashamed because its all just a matter of keeping accurate records. If a doc is so lazy that he/she doesn't want to document things appropriately I dont want to see them. If they would follow the standard of care and proper documentation to support the patients needs there should be no problem for those patients who need it, and the docs would not be jeopardizing their license.

No there really ARE new laws within some States that regulate refills along with some new Federal laws that have rescheduled controlled meds like Soma and Opiates. In addition there are new Medicare rules which exclude payment for those controlled medications.
