Need Help Finding Doctor To Prescribe Either Oxycodone Vicodin Or Methadone 10mg For My Chronic Pain (Page 12)
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I have been suffering from chronic pain for 7 years and have always been on and off pain meds from tylenol 3 to 90mg methadone at the worst of any ever taken. I decided to dose down & get off of methadone as I did not care for the "clinic" enviroment per say as I was using more for pain then for addicition. I found a dr that prescribed me the pain meds for breakthrough pain and the pill form of methadone 10mg was what I chose but now he is gone as he lost his license which sucks for me because NO ONE will give me anything, not even the methadone unless I go back to the stupid clinc and I so don't want that... DOES ANYONE KNOW OF A DR. that would prescribe anything or just something to get me through life with less pain? I am in the twin cities of Minnesota and I will drive if need be.

A new dr will want a copy of your medical records from your previous dr. Most drs have their won way of prescribing. They usually start you out on the lowest dose and the mildest pain med, even if they have your medical records stating that you have been taking something else. Just because a previous dr prescribe you a certain med at a certain dose is no guarantee that another dr will.

Kay..

I live in mpls area and need to find a local pain clinic who takes medica for insurance and not feel judged or ashamed for my chronic pain issues... Now I have yet to seek out a pain clinic in fear of all the stories I have heard by others on being made to feel your an addict when all I am looking for is support and help to understand & deal with my forever pain I live with. My primary has been awesome and has been able to give me my pain meds monthly without shaming me. He does share his concerns on becoming addition to opiates and YES I have had to be on them now for almost 10 plus years with dosage this last year going upto 20 MG oxycodone 4 times today for blown disc in lower back and shattered now desolved tailbone to learn 4 months back I now have rheumatoid arthritis which after a year of pretending my hands looked fine did I have to come to terms with the visual deformities this is taking & how terrible day to day function has become. Now with this said I know my doctor would like to do more for me yet he is so limited with his clinic park Nicollet and to be honest he has referred me outside of there Clinic face because he has more faith in the University of Minnesota and then he does they're doctors is in their network for my back surgery. And with my arthritis being fairly newly diagnosed I am just starting to learn how to deal with that.

I have heard of this pain clinic from others with positive feedback. I have yet to venture into the pain clinic world yet I know my doctor would prefer me to seek my chronic pain issues through a specialist ywt I have always been feared of being judged for my pain medication I have used for 10 plus years. I now that day to day function without it is almost impossible for my career requires me to stand most the day and I use my hands 90% of my work day. I have worked my tail off for my store and love my company with every bit of me and have been them 15 Years now & I have worked hard to have a very successful store and I have wonderful employees that I oversee so at this point I can not see myself doing anything else. Yet with my new diagnosis with the rheumatoid arthritis and how fast it seems to be advancing I do not know how much longer I'll be able to use my hands in the matter that I need. I have learned to deal with the chronic back issues with the daily meds, inj's. 3 times a year & I have said NO to fusing of my back for fear of outcome.

I guess my question for you is if I do venture into the pain clinic area which I know needs to happen for I am 150% dependent on my pain medication and if I wanted to get off at I have been told that I should try suboxone do you know if this clinic uses that as an option, yet my fear with that is if I am not able to deal with my pain and find it is something I need or will need as my rheumatoid arthritis worsens will I be able to get my pain medication back? I do not want to be labeled for something I may need again or punished for if I desire to try to stop or see if I can go manage pain without the opiates yet need to try subs in order to keep my career on track without getting sick as I do so. I have taken my opiates for 10.5 years without a day missed & I have seen people that have went through withdrawals or stopped cold turkey and how terribly sick they have been and I do not want that to be me. Do you know if twin cities pain clinic uses suboxone as an option? I am have a good history with my clinic I have all my MRI & CAT scans I have never hopped doctors or broken the rules with my medication... I just want to see if there is a safe way to try to see if I can attempt to seek life without all these pills daily yet do so in a safe manner. I would appreciate if you have any extra info on Dr well and the Twin Cities pain clinic and I'm excited to read more about them for I'm ready for trying something different.. I need to learn to manage this new illness before I let it manage me. Thanks for posting about them and I hope to read more.

I went to a Dr. Andrew Will in Bloomington/Edina area close to France ave so & 494. I think it was called the Twin Cities Pain Clinic He really helped my pain & when I requested, he KNEW HOW to give injections in my back. His nurses were also very nice-alot more than the ones here in Chicago. Good luck.

Sir I have that Dr experience u speak of and have gone thru it all. I do not recommend Dr Shiloh and have two names of great drs in mn I would share with whomever needed help. Are u willing to share the Dr that u know allows his patients to make controlled choices to pick both and know what works best for that patient? Everyone is different and methadone saved my life after several different results. Do overs. But I have twenty two years of pain under my belt. I'm sorry, who am I giving my medical resume to... geese I guess. Not sure how this works. Well if u can privately let me know my email is {edited for privacy}.

I was in a bad car accident 5 years ago, have gone through 2 cervical fusion surgeries, over a dozen injections and go to a pain clinic. Nothing is working and is now strating to cost me a lot of money. I don't want to do this anymore and just want to be prescribed my usual medicine that helps me a lot. Any advise on who I should see in MPLS for this?

You are right BL. Then too they must write a prescription each month. They have to know you and care about you to do that.

Jasmine, a dr that you have been seeing for many years and who knows you well can be worth more than gold now days. I have had drs prescribe me meds in the past that they didn't prescribe other patients because they not only had been treating me for many years and knew me well, but they also had been treating my family members. But, drs won't do this for patients they don't know well and haven't been treating for a long time. And unfortunately many drs will say that the laws have changed and they can't prescribe pain meds instead of saying they aren't comfortable prescribing pain meds for that particular patient.

BL You are correct. My family doctor or as they are now referred to as PCP -Primary Care Providers-will write pain medication for me. I receive Norco and he stated to me he has every right to prescribe pain medication and also benzos when needed. He does not treat every patient the same, but he knows who needs help and he is a compassionate doctor. I had avoided asking him for anything because of what I read here, and I found out he was willing. He has my mri's and my scans. I have been a patient for many years. He has a great reputation also.

I wasted time with pain management doctors and it was because I read erroneous info here. Thanks BL for clarifying.

Blackie, I don't see where anyone answered your question about needing a dr in Missouri. Let me see if I can explain why you're not getting the help your looking for in this particular thread.

A. Please read the question or comment that started this thread. Notice the date it was created.
B. The date was Jan 29, 2012. Further, it was started by someone asking for help finding a dr in
C. Minnesota.

I believe you're needing a dr in Missouri, yes? This site can be very helpful, however, MANY of the threads were started ages ago which creates confusion to say the least. If I may suggest that you please go to the home page and post your question anew. You'll find the very simple instructions for this on the home page. Be sure and post what you're looking for and what state and city you're searching in. Good luck to you, Blackie!

Jasmine, I figured that the person replying wasn't aware of the implications of going to a Methadone Clinic if you're a chronic pain patient.

DrJoeyMDPhD, any dr can write prescriptions for these meds, unless they have lost their inabiity to do so due to some type of abuse. It is up to each dr to decide what they will and won't write prescriptions for and to which patients. Finding a dr that will write prescriptions at that high of a dose will be diffficult, if not impossible, even with a Pain Managment Dr with a copy of their medical records from their previous dr. Most people think that just because a dr in the past has written them prescriptions for certain meds at certain doses that any dr will do it, but that is not true.

In NYC — take your full records and find a doc certified in Pain Management. Other docs (and not all specialties), such as Orthopedic Surgeons, can prescribe for6-8 weeks, but I'm doubtful about the dosage levels. I can't think of any non-PM doc who would even consider it. Hypothetically, I'm qualified to prescribe such disease because of my Board certs in Psychiatry (explanation is reasonable, as another docexlained to me, but I wouldn't prescribe such are doses fir a new patient in any even. That goes for benzos, amphetamines, sleeping pills, et.)

Kentucky - Methadone Clinics are Not for the management of chronic pain, they are for Methadone Maintenance Treatment of addicts. If someone goes to a Methadone Clinic to have their chronic pain managed, when the clinic realizes this and refuses to treat them, they will not be able to find a dr to manage their pain because they have a history of drug addiction treatment.
