My Doctor Wants To Start Me On Lexapro

I lost my brother last year and we were less than eleven months apart and have always been extremely close. Then exactly to the date a year later my mom died and then ten days later my mother-in-law passed on Thanksgiving. It has been so overwhelming to me. I cannot sleep and I know I have all of the symptoms of depression and my doctor wants me to take Lexapro but reading all of your comments has me terrified. The side effects sound awful. Has anyone had ANY success with it at all? Frankly, I cannot take on more mental and physical issues at this time.

Something that you have to remember, when you're reading such posts online is that those are actually from a very small percentage of people who specifically went looking for a website like this due to an issue with the medication. The greatest amount of people taking it have had no problems, so they just aren't looking for a site like this to get more information from.

Not everyone experiences the side effects, they are just a possibility and the only way to see how a medication will work for you is by actually trying it. If you have a problem, you contact your doctor for assistance.

Everyone seems to react differently to anti-depressants so you may have a different experience than I did, but my doc took me off it quite quickly because of the side effects. My doctor prescribed something else for me... worked splendidly too... a 10 minute walk outside daily. I thought she was crazy but it worked and no side effects. The side effects from Lexapro were too much for me... I've met some that liked it and some that didn't.

Hi. I'm sorry to hear what you've been through. I have been on lexapro for about 3 weeks and I can't speak highly enough of it. I have had no side effects at all, apart from sleeping better, which may also just be because I feel happy and content again. Please try it, I am a huge fan and I'm sure I'm not the only one. Stick out the side effects if you even get any because it will be worth it. God luck:)
