My Doc Will Not Refill My Xanax Im Feeling Sick (Page 23)

Updated

I was prescribed Prozac & Xanax 10 years ago by my psychiatrist for depression & severe panic attacks. He started me on 1mg 3 times a day. Around Dec 2005 he increased my daily dose to 1 mg - 4 times a day. I have been a patient of his now for 10 years where I see him every 3 months. Through the years, there has been a few times were I had to call to reschedule my appointment and a couple of times he had to do the same. He would call in my meds for the amount I would need to get me through to my next appointment. This month I had an appointment for May 27th I called to reschedule due to transportation. I do not drive now and my ride canceled on me. so, I rescheduled my app. for June 17th I then requested my meds be called in until my appointment, a 3 week supply. She said she would call me back when it was called in later that day. Not hearing anything I called back the next day to find out what was going on. I was told my doctor feels uncomfortable due to liability reasons to re-fill my medication, until I see him again in June. I asked her what about the liability to take me off medication I have been taking for 10 years? She told me to go to my primary physician to get my meds. I told her my primary care doctor will not prescribe me those medications without my medical records from this office and I just signed a medical release form a few days ago at my first appointment with this new primary doctor, so she told me to go to an urgent care if my symptoms became to uncomfortable for me to deal with!! I had enough xanax to last me until today. I took my last xanax this morning and I am already starting to feel sick, my head feels cloudy, I feel like I'm getting the flu. My heart is racing, I'm feel really anxious & closed in. Has anyone out there gone off xanax cold turkey what more should I expect? I don't understand how a doctor can prescribe medication like this for 10 years and just make you stop so suddenly it doesn't seem fair. I have lost trust in my doctor now and I don't think I can continue to be his patient anymore. I am scared and I don't know who to turn too.

You need to get a lawyer and sue that doctor for endangering your life. It's like manslaughter. This is the only way to stop these doctors.

I think you have to pass away first to have any cause of action

No, no, no! Whether you have been taking the medication as prescribed or not has absolutely no bearing on whether or not your detox will be dangerous! If one person has been taking four milligrams of Xanax a day for three years at a doctor's referral, and another has been taking four milligrams of Xanax a day for three years because she gets them off the streets and likes the way they make her feel, both are equally likely to go into very serious withdrawal with life-threatening symptoms such as seizures. Saying that your withdrawal won't be as serious because you were prescribed the medication that way is like saying that trans fats won't clog your arteries if a nutritionist tells you to eat more of them. It just plain doesn't make any sense. ALWAYS take withdrawal seriously, withdrawal from benzodiazepines such as Xanax, Klonipin, Valium, etc., is more than just uncomfortable, it is dangerous, and it can easily be deadly. If you are in a situation in which you have to quit taking these drugs cold turkey, be safe and go to your emergency room. They will likely want to hospitalize you for observation during the duration of your withdrawal, and they can help keep you comfortable as well as healthy during the worst of it. Expect to be given anti-seizure medication as well as IV fluids to prevent dehydration during your first 72 hours of withdrawal. Stay strong, but, most importantly, stay SAFE! Don't be a hero, get help!

You obviously have never taken Xanax. Yes, it can be serious to just stop taking this medication. People who have never experienced depression and true anxiety/panic attacks, have no idea how it feels living with this nasty illness. I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy.

They listen to these government agencies who have noting better to do all day but sit and think of ways to torture people. These soccer
moms encourage this type of thing because they think they are doing something good but in the long run they are not educated on mental illness so they still think they have the right to open their mouths. Why don't this country ask the people who have a mental illness instead of assuming no one needs their Xanax it is not fair because they don't suffer from panic attacks or anxiety.

I know how u feel. I've been on xanax for 25 years and they r doing me the same way. It's sad that we get punished for people on the street that sell or abuse them. I hope u get threw it. I can't stop the med. I tried and had a seizure and didn't know my children or husband for 3 days. Finally they gave me a xanax and within 30 min I was me again. It's a scary thing. Good luck. I'll pray for u.

You are being ridiculous. The doctors are being monitored by the DEA and unable to call it in without you there. I'd love to talk to the doctor and see what they say. You don't feel like the flu when you stop. Your obviously hooked and don't want to stop. You need to get strong and give them up before the meds kill you

I can understand your feelings as I always worry I'm going to lose my prescription and not be able to refill it. I take 2mg x 3 times a day and I think "in my mind I would be my own worst enemy causing my anxiety just of the thought of possibly having it without taking my medication".

As to the gentleman that stated you would not feel the side effects the same day he obviously isn't diagnosed with severe anxiety or depression especially if you are prescribed 1mg 4x a day which means your body is metabolizing it very quickly just as mine does otherwise you would not need to take it every 3-4 hours to control your anxiety. I also have PTSD so for me just the thought of running out freaks me out because I can say and I'm not addicted to any medication however within 15 mins after taking one Xanax my anxiety is completely gone and under control. It works that fast for me, however, every metabolizes medication and nutrients differently just as I can't process Folic Acid from Fruits or Vegetables which I found out in a GENETIC TEST (WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND BEFORE STARTING ANY MENTAL MEDICATION) as this report tells you what medications react best with your gene type so you can avoid the frustration of your Psychiatrist playing the guessing game and having you take numerous things until you find one that works. I hate medication and when my Psychiatrist tried to put me on depression medication I refused as I knew that wasn't my problem it was anxiety which there is a huge difference. It turns out since my body can't process something as simple as folic acid the lack of it causes depression, insomnia, fatigue and anxiety which most Dr just as mine right before I fired him tried to do to me. Now I take Deplin which is a processed form of folic acid and all of those symptoms went away.

Everyone please be cautious and ASK FOR A GENETIC TEST which my insurance covered and it was real easy they just take a strip across the inside of your mouth but the report is amazing. I have severe ADHD and can only take 2 of the 8 medications that treat ADHD as the report stated due to my serotonin and dopamine levels. That's why a test like this is so important and saves u the suffering from being put on a medication that could very well make you suicidal.

I would definitely recommend asking your doctor to write a 3-month prescription with refills or at least a month prescription with 5 refills which allows you not to run out just in case you miss one of your monthly appts. That what mine does which makes it much easier. Then every 3 months I get a new script so I've always got two extra refills In case I miss an appointment which having ADHD you have zero concept of time. Lol

My Psychiatrist also tried to say I had missed too many appts which I go every 3 weeks and I always make it up within the week however due to missing over 5-6 appts he wasn't going to see me. I demanded an Appt with him and he finally agreed to see me and I told him there's no way he can ever fire me or I'll really go crazy... haha they charge me the full price for missed appts and I was behind so I paid my account up and I just make sure I'm there even if I'm 20 mins late I still turn up at least to get my medication. I see a therapist for my anxiety and PTSD so he really just diagnoses me and monitors my medication and symptoms but he's the best and I couldn't imagine starting all over with someone however, you do have to respect their time just as you expect them to write your prescription they expect you to make your Appt and by law they must see you a minimum of every 3 months to continue writing prescriptions or they could lose their license and ultimately it is your responsibility to turn up not their responsibility to call in a favor which seems to be a habit and that's a red flag for someone abusing a prescription especially like Xanax.

My advice! Get a script with 5 refills and don't miss your Appt which only has to be every 3 months if you are on the maintenance level.

Sorry for the long comment. I have just had to deal with this a lot due to a severe car accident causing extreme injuries so I understand.

You obviously have NOT withdrawn from it. I had a terrible benzo withdrawal 7 years ago and have never truly recovered. Doctors are ignorant and irresponsible for prescribing them long term then expecting you to cold turkey! There are support forums on the internet. I was on one with 10,000 members yet doctors still don't believe a protracted withdrawal is possible! Please seek out support online, they are the ONLY people who will understand and support you! Good luck! You may get through it within a few weeks... I hope.

I'll make this short and to the point. It sounds like you have a reasonable Dr., but you're asking a lot of him/her to write a script for 3 weeks worth of a controlled substance (yes, that's what's going on in today's world) Everyone has problems now and then, but for your own well being get down there to see your Dr., and be grateful that he'll still write you a script as it's hard to find a Dr. these days to write a script for Xanax, and you say you might not keep him? Ha, I got news for you, you better kiss that Dr's butt so he'll keep seeing you.. Good luck

That is very wrong and very dangerous for him to do that without weaning you off.you should report the Dr. To wherever you report them, But you may have to go to a pain management place to get something,Not trying to scare you but getting off Xanax is very dangerous cold turkey.good luck, I will pray for you, And the government doesn't understand why there is an epedemic on street drugs? GIVE ME A BREAK.

I'm on a taper of 2 MG a week starting at 40 MG for methadone and on a taper for aplrozolam as well 1MG every 3 months so I go to get my 1 out of two refills and my psychiatrist calls the Walmart pharmacy to have it available there instead of where I get it on other occasions, my mom had a heart attack our dogs dying hit by car a now heat stroke family is in poor health, anyway money is tight like always ..she claims to just now see that my methadone is on record after close to a year of going to her session which could be hardly called a session at all , very crude , doesn't listen just talKS, after her talking for 1-5 minstrel more of a 1-2 min speech, not very interested in my matters and gives me less then a few minutes with little to no response from her. so now I'm here with medication that has led me to the hospital before and she's taking it away from me completely. right now . what do I do where do I got this isite wrong ... it's pharmaceutical murder! Everything's working fine were tapering just as talked about itsome not my fault my psychiatrist isn't up to date with her patients and what I'm taking having said that there are risks Imy aware of and take them with the upmost caution !

How long were you on it? You need to be in a medical facility and your physician needs to get a HEALTH DEPT complaint against him. This is reckless behavior. I am in the same boat except, I was switched to Klonopin. I was turned away from 4 behavioral health clinics who said, "we do not want the liability of what another doctor did to you."
I found an APRN who switched me to Klonopin which is still a benzo. That's is as far as it went. My primary care doctor prescribes it now like it's Tylenol.

I have HUGE anxiety everyday for years. I have been on Ativan and now on Xanax instead,. I have tried to go off it 3 x and all 3 times I had to give up in 3 weeks. YOU won't sleep, feel like crap and could have a seizure. Benzos are harder than Pain meds to get off of bc the withdrawal is so dang long. 3 weeks should be long enough but it goes on and on. I'm allowed 4 Xanax a day but I save 30 from each script to put in 'survivor bag".
