Moved To Germany. Can My Family Mail Me My Xanax?

I have been on .5 mg of Xanax for 6 months to help with anxiety and panic attacks. I have four refills left.
Recently, my family moved to Germany b/c my husband is in the Army. I was told that the clinic on base (the only place I can go) would refill my prescriptions if I just took them the bottles. My doctor refused to refill my medicine saying that it has a high street value and they don't dole out that many. She told me she'd give me 10 as apposed to 60 and said I should try depression medicine. I am in NO way depressed and the regement I am on now works just fine so I do not want to change it.
Since I have four refills, can I call the pharmacy back home and just have my mother pick up my medication and mail it to me? I left a few things when I first moved and some of it was a controlled migraine medication. That was mailed to me with no problems so I didn't know if I could just do the same?

Either way, after being on Xanax for 6 months I don't think they should just stop them cold turkey and put me on another medication. I've heard this can cause seizures?

You can try.

I am not sure what the laws are in Germany regarding this, however, I know the U.S. frowns on the shipping of controlled substances, so you do run the risk of having it seized by customs.

The chance of it causing seizures is very slim, unless you were abusing the medication by taking much more of it than you were supposed to.

You could, however, suffer some mld withdrawal effects, such as nausea, vomiting, chills and rebound effects.

Most countries do allow you to bring in a few months worth of a medication that was prescribed in a different country, for instance, in the U.S. it is up to 3 months worth. If that is also the case in Germany, they may want proof that you had a prescription for it here.

Thank you for your reply. Yes, Germany does allow you to take three months of a prescription prescribed to you but my doctor originally wrote the prescription for three months (rather than four refills) and it turned out that two different pharmacies refused to fill 180 pills of Xanax. I can't say that I blame them! I wouldn't want to be the pharmacist responsible for that!

So, my Dr. then wrote my Rx with four refills instead. I thought that I could just have them refilled here on base since I have the actual bottle saying that I have refills, but as I said my new doctor refused saying that they don't prescribe more than ten a month due to it's high street value.

I am glad to hear that I shouldn't suffer from seizures. I do not abuse my medicine at all. I do however, feel that I need something to help with my anxiety. I do not want to try depression medication as she suggested because I honestly am not the least depressed and I know that Zoloft and Lexapro have some serious side effects.

I will talk to her about my other options.

I am hoping to move to Germany in the next month and I have been on 2 mg bars 4x's a day for over 4 years now. I have a severe form of G.A.D. I am going to talk to my psychiatrist and see if I can get 3 mos. worth to fill here and bring with me. Will I be able to do that with proof of my prescription? I am worried as I have read that Germany is very tough on Xanax dispensing and the highest dose is 1 mg at a max of 50 pills. I take 120 of them per month and I do and have gotten severe seizures from not having it at times I've forgotten it and went out of town for a few days. I ended up in E.R. What do or can I do and what are my options for Germany?

NO Importing pharmaceuticals, even if u have a legitimate prescription for them is strictly prohibited in Germany. They will however send u a polite notification that a parcel has arrived for u from abroad and that they are holding it at such-and-such post office. When u arrive and try to claim it, they will politely inform u that the illegal nature of the parcel, but they give u a choice: Either u can request that they return the parcel to the sender, or they can open it in ur presence and destroy the contents while u watch. Ur choice.

I know a doctor who can help, with your prescription refills. He is very good and understanding. I suffer with the same and moved here.

Your best bet is to jump on the high speed train or bus and go over to Amsterdam. There is a tourist doctor there that can help you out no problem. Germany is pretty much impossible to get any doctor to give out benzos. If you spend $20 for a ticket and a few hours of your time and travel there to see him every few months you won't have a problem at all. In fact you don't even have to see him. You can call him and tell him what's going on and he will send your request right to the pharmacy instantly. I found that this was the best way to go while I was there for almost 1 year.

If I was in the Armed Forces I would not use U.S. Mail or German mail to import my medication and I also wouldn't leave the country to obtain some and bring it back, that could be considered drug smuggling.

You are actually aloud to take medication within all the EU. Its like taking something from Florida to Georgia. They will give you travel passes at the pharmacy if your that worried about it and also you an bring Benzos back to the US legally as they are used for anxiety and panic attacks during flights and what not. When I flew back customs gave me a letter to bring my 240, 2mgs back with me no problem
