Have you told your doctor that the Oxycontin isn't handling your pain?

It isn't unusual for someone take both a long-acting narcotic, such as the Oxycontin, with something that works faster, such as an instant release or a regular release medication, like the Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen.

However, there are always risks associated with it. The narcotics can cause depression of the central nervous system, such as lowered heart rate and lowered breathing rate.

And with long-term use, the Acetaminophen could cause some liver damage.

There is a new( well fairly new, I believe, don't quote me on this, but my doctor prescribed me a medicine called 'Gralise' it's a name brand med. I have a lot of nerve damage located in my spine. Well, she took me off of Lyrica, and put me on the Gralise 600mg's, and I take 3 tablets by mouth with evening meal, once a day. Well, the 1st thing that it said that it was prescribed for was "Shingles"! Of course they prescribe the same medications for different reasons, but it was listed on top of my Walgreens paper talking about this medicine is mostly prescribed for "Shingles"! It's not cheap medicine either, I got a script of 90, and it was $289.00. That also is because it's name brand. I asked the pharmacist is that because there's not a generic? He said "No"? That's weird,, because as I was reading all the info on the medication, it said there was a generic called "Gabapentin"! I don't know if they come in that exact mg's? Or if there's something a little different in the "Gralise", that makes it mostly prescribed for "Shingles"? You might wanna ask your doctor! I really can't tell you much on how good it works or anything like that because I just got it yesterday! So,, if I was you it deffentily wouldn't hurt to call your doc and ask! I also have Medicare, so it didn't cost me $289.00,, my co-pay on name brands is $6.50. But if the Gabapentin's is a generic for it, it should be fairly in-expensive! I hope this helps!

No,,it won't hurt you. The OxyContin is used a long-term, and the Norco,Vicodin,Hydrocodone, all of these are the same, and people take it everyday just like that, and they take as there "Break-thru pain"! So, the answer is "NO" it won't hurt you, just as long as you aren't taking alot of it, or over doing it. You really should just tell your doctor that it's causing alot of pain! Just tell your Doctor, that it's causing so much pain that it's keeping you from being able to sleep, or it's waking you up in the middle of the night in so much pain it's unbearable, and that a family member had to give you something to help you, because you was waking everyone up in the house!! Then he will ask what it was and just act like your not familiar with the medicine your family member made you take to help you! Then tell him or her, on the phone to hold on and you will find out what it is that helped you alot, and finally gave you some relief from the awful pain it's been causing. Then after you pick the phone back up, you read the oxy's for long term, and the hydrocodone for break-thru,
Because any break-thru med is supposed to start helping within 15 mins, and Ur Oxy is a long-term and takes a while to start working, but that's what slowly helps you! Then, also tell your doctor that obviously you need your own scripts of those meds, because your family member only did it because it's causing so much pain, and like you said, you were waking the whole house up in the middle of the night! Tell him that your family member isn't going to give you anymore of there medicine, and tell your doctor that your family member told you to tell (Him or Her)Ur Doctor, that it took that type of medicine to help you, and you obviously need to pick up some of those prescription's for yourself to keep from being in that situation again! They will tell u to come in, or they might just tell u to come pick up the scripts! Good Luck,, this should HELP YOU, I PROMISE!! Keep me up-dated after u call your doctor and tell them EXACTLY WORD TO WORD WHAT I SAID! Ok?

Well my actual question was the Tylenol is causing major stomach problems. Burning and just plain upset...OYE!!! What is there that is strong enough for severe pain W/out taking Tylenol? Also when I took vicoprofen I was fine stomach wise..Don't know if I could handle more Vicoprofen though. Does Oxycodone(don't know anything about this drug) have the tylenol in it? If it does I'm screwed...Taking the Gabapentin(2nd day) and the acrvilor?(sp.) So tiredbut my head is on fire and back spazzing nerve pain and itching. I'm also rubbing Hydrocortisone 1% everywhere. Very messy...I look just lovely..HAH!!
