I was put on metoprolol about 3 weeks ago for hypertension and an ascending aortic aneurysm. I also have PVCs. I take 25 MG every 12 hours. My BP is better but not great. Some readings are normal and most are high (130/90-5 range) I have noticed more heart palpitations since taking it instead of less. I am having intermittent episodes of chest tightness and breathing being more labored. Also have a cough. Feels like a mild asthma attack. In the past, I would get exertional asthma with heavy exercise or laughing. My sleep is worse for waking up with a cough, palpitations, anxiety, or chest heaviness. I also have been hoarse and have a tickle in the back of my throat (postnasal drip?) Are these typical side effects? Do they warrant a reduction in my dosage? I see my cardiologist on Monday...

..been diagnosed w/ MVP recently and the doctor gave me instructions that I should take 1/2 tab of Metoprolol 50 mg twice a day. What would be the effect if I don't follow the doctor's instructions or I would not take it at all. I'm afraid of its side effects. ## I was also on 50mg (1/2 a tab twice a day) and after 7 days or so I started to itch all over my torso & under & down arms as well. smALL ROUND WHITE PILL SCORED ON ONE SIDE WITH L130 ON THE OTHER SIDE ## I cannot find a listing for a tablet, either under L 139 or L 130. I can only assume that the reason for this is because it is an over the counter item and as such, the imprints are not required to be logged with the FDA, like prescription medications are. Where was it found? ## I assume it's an L150. Metoprolol ran into the same issue. Thought it was a 3 turned out it's a 5

My husband takes 50mg Metoprolol succinate 1 x daily at bedtime for V-tach (no heart disease) along with 20mg lisinopril and 1 baby aspirin. He recently got an Apple watch and was alerted that his heart rate while he slept had dropped to 37 and 34. We recently moved, we have to wait for an appt to get in with a new doctor and then have to be referred to the cardiologist here for a check up as it has been about a year since he last saw the cardiologist (that is when the meoprolol was increased to 50mg) and was told to come back in a year. Is the low heart rate at night an urgent concern or is it ok to wait until he can get in with the new doctor. Or should he cut the tablet in half? Thank you for your help! ## Hi Rosan, Sorry to hear about your husband's situation. According to wikip...

I have been taking toprol xl for a couple weeks because my heart rate keeps spiking out of nowhere, the doctor upped the dose and it's still happening. Had to get an ambulance today when my blood pressure got up to 150/102 heart rate 146. This happens very fast when it happens and I normally have a very low blood pressure. Around 98/70 range . Why does my heart rate and bp spike like this? I'm not doing anything but resting lately. ## Well, there are various things that could cause it, according to NIH reports, such as being sick, eating, taking in a lot of caffeine, or other medications. Generally, Toprol causes a lowered heart rate and blood pressure. Have you consulted a cardiologist? Are you on any other medications? What time of day is it spiking? ## m on mtoprolol succinat...

Can metoprolol 100 cause ear pain ## Hi Roy, Metoprolol doesn't appear to list any adverse effects associated with ear pain in particular. However I have noticed a number of reports from users taking this medication who experienced what they call a "pulsating/ringing/buzzing" sound in the ear. That said, I wouldn't be surprised at all if it does cause ear pain in some patients as a result of this low/high pitch frequency. If it has become too bothersome or severe, I would just suggest contacting your doctor and/or reporting it to the FDA's MedWatch (Adverse events) program online at fda.gov/Safety/MedWatch. Do you think the ear ache could possibly be related to something else as well? Or does it only happen when you take this medication? ## I have been on metoprolol ...

My primary care Dr. was giving me Amlodipine for high blood pressure. It was working well along with Lisinopril to keep my blood pressure in check but my legs and ankles began to swell so she took me off of the Amlodipine as leg/ankle swelling are a side effect. Then I was admitted into the hospital and the Dr. there gave me Metoprolol. Now my legs are swelling again and if I am correct in what I am finding Amlodipine and Metoprolol are the same thing? ## Hello Anne, The NIH reports that metoprolol is abeta1-selective(cardioselective) adrenoceptor blocking agent and that amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker. While both of these medications have different active and inactive ingredients and are different types of blockers they both list ankle swelling as a potential side effect. The r...

I started metoprolol about 6 months ago, and after a few weeks on it, I started having pain in my upper legs (thigh area) and sometimes lower legs. I complained to Dr and they say it’s not from the med. I never had a leg problem and it’s getting worse. After sitting, when I get up my legs feel heavy and painful. Had anyone else had anything like this? ## Hi Jojo, Sorry to hear about your situation. Leg pain unfortunately isn't listed as a side effect of Metoprolol on NIH.gov or Medlineplus.gov. However, they do list swelling (inflammation) of the legs, which I believe in turn can correspond to pain. Need an alternative to this drug and mostly a natural alternative. Feel extremely spent when at work with lifting and long walks. ## Hello, Skip! How are you? This medication can be used to treat high blood pressure and some cardiac conditions and a viable alternative, if any, depends on what condition is being treated. Can you please post back and clarify? Thank you! The FDA does report fatigue as being a possible side effect of this medication, you may also experience nausea, dizziness, hypotension and increased urination. How long have you been taking it? Side effects, such as this, are typically transient and go away, with time, once your body adjusts to the medication. ## I have been taking 50mg twice daily for couple years now which is why I'm confused with side effects I'...
