I'm taking Metoprolol (50mg) daily. I've experienced a noticeable measure of ED. I wasn't aware of this side effect when I started taking it. Is there another Beta blocker equally effective that does not cause any degree of ED? ## I am afraid that this can be a potential side effect of almost all blood pressure medications, so there is no way to tell you that any one will not cause any degree of ED. I recently had trouble with Metoprolol myself and my doctor recommended I switch to Carvedilol, it seems to cause less side effects and problems for people that have had trouble with Metoprolol. It is also more powerful, so you usually require half the dose of it, that you did of the Metoprolol. More information: Have you tried asking your doctor about alternatives?

Is Metoprolol Tartrate 25 mg the same as Metoprolol ER 25 mg ? ## No, if it does not have something such as an ER, SR, XR or CR following the medication name, then it is not necessarily that same thing. Those abbreviations all signify that the medication is a controlled release formulation and one that does not have it is just the regular release formulation of the medication. However, if you received one, in place of the other, at your pharmacy, you should ask them to double check, as it may just have been a typing or printing error.

Had been taking Cozaar 100 mg, which had my bp under control (ranging from 115/78 to 128/82). Also started back at the gym 2 1/2 months ago. Now up to regular cardio routine totalling 150 mins/ week. No shortness of breath or other problems. I asked the doc if I could step down to Cozaar 50 mg, as the 100 mg was making me feel like my heart ached from time to time. Doc changed to 50 mg Cozaar, but added Metorolol XL 25 mg. First day, I had a bad reaction: dizziness, disoriented. 2 days later, still didn't feel right. Took my bp and it was 150/87 and continued to rise. Went to the ER. They told me I was having a panic attack. Doc ordered a dobutamine stress echo test. Have had mild chest pain and some shortness of breath at the gym on exertion. Passed with flying colors. But bp has r...

Can you tell me the difference between the above med. and Metoprolol TAB TAR 100 MG? Thank you ## Metoprolol Suc (Succinate) ER is an extended release (hence the ER in the name) tablet. Metoprolol Tar (Tartrate) is an immediate release medication. Would you happen to know if these two drugs are coming from different manufacturers? Also, I am guessing that with the TAR you have to take more doses throughout the day than with the SUC? Hope this helps! You can read more about this drug on the page for ...

I believe metropolol is simply a common mistake made when searching for it. There may be a metropolol outside of US drug databases, but as far my research goes I haven't found it.
