WHAT IS IT FOR? AFTER EFFECTS? DURATION TO TAKE THIS? ## Need more info on drugs molecules to understand drug intake and avoid side effects if any can be avoided ## Prolomet-XL contains the active ingredient Metoprolol, which is a beta blocker that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure, cardiac conditions and migraines. As to how long of a time period that you have to be on it, that really depends on why you are taking it. If you are using it to help control high blood pressure and/or a cardiac condition, then it is highly likely that you will be on this or a similar mediation for the rest of your life to keep those conditions under control. As to the side effects and avoiding them, not everyone experiences them and if you do, there is really no known way to avoid the side effec...

Trying to see what kind of medication this pill is. It has a capital M with a line in the middle and a capital Z beneath it. My husband takes 12.5 mg metoprolol in the morning and his lisinopril 2.5 at night. His cardiologist said to take 12.5 metoprolol in the am and another 12.5 in the pm. Our question is can the two medications together cause his no to get too low? He was put on the lisinopril to thin his blood since he is diabetic. Is it normal to be on both if there is no heart condition? ## Neither of these medications are blood thinners. What condition does he have that requires him to see a cardiologist? Medications in this class are sometimes given to diabetics to help protect kidney function, according to the NIH. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and hypotension. Does your husband have high blood pressure?

How many hours apart do I separate these meds. and what is the best and less confusing way to take these pills. Together or Separated? ## There is no need to separate them, as a matter of fact, most doctors will tell you not to, in order to try to help you remember to take them all and not miss any doses. Has there been any change? While those can be side effects of this medication, they usually go away after about 4 to 5 weeks, once your body gets used to the medication, according to the FDA. Other side effects may include nausea, headache, and hypotension. However, given the length of time you've been dealing with this, I think it's time to try a different medication and I'm not sure why your doctor hasn't already suggested that you do so. Just got a refill of metoprolol er succinate 50mg which used to have Watson listed as the manufacturer but now says Actavis. The pills look exactly the same and the imprint is the same with an 831 number but they stink like paint. Never had this before. The pharmacist checked the original container and that stinks too. Anyone else notice this? ## Hello, Mary! How are you? Most pills do have an odor, but many manufacturers use a coating on them to prevent patients from smelling it. Thus, I have to assume that when Actavis bought out many of Watson's products, they stopped coating them. It is, however, nothing to worry about, even though I know it may be annoying. Would it be ok to take at bed time......afraid if I take it in the morning I'll sleep all day! ## Hello, Emily! How are you? It can be taken at night, as long as your doctor approves. I'm taking a small dose that was prescribed due to a sudden A-fib situation. I am off any blood thinners other than aspirin and have cut the dose to about 2.5mg 2xs a day. My heart rate is upper 60s to mid 70s at rest. I only got to 130 one time while bowling during the day and it remains in the mid to upper 80s. I have noticed a reduction in libido and a weighted feeling in my lower legs. I've been on it for 8 months +- blood pressure is fine, a little discomfort from time to time in the stomach. Now I want to get off this, but how? ## At that low of a dosage, you can most likely just stop taking it, but you should only do so, if your doctor approves.
