There are many people that have problems due to the side effects of this class of medications.

That said, however, since you are taking it for such a serious condition, it is not advisable to just stop abruptly. It can cause a rebound effect that could make your palpitations worse.

You should contact your doctor, immediately, regarding this matter.

Have you tried getting in touch with your doctor, yet?

I am on 100 mg per day of Metoprolol for borderline HBP. I've been on the med about six months, but the last month I've been experiencing non-stop heart palpitations (or skipped beats, or irregular beats). My dr. listened and didn't hear anything, ordered an EKG, which came back normal. But they are driving me crazy and making me very tired by the end of the day (wonder if I'm not getting the appropriate amt. of oxygen?). What else can I do to stop these things, and if the Metoprolol is supposed to help this condition, it certainly isn't helping mine! THANKS!!

Has anyone experienced shortness of breath and anxiety near panic attacks from taking Metropolol 12.5, and if so, how long after discontinuing use did it take for this to disappear?

I was put on 25mg in addition to another 40 mg BP med I am currently taking, and then it was raised to 50 then 100 mg. She also added 10 mg Crestar too! Sugar levels went sky rocketing after only taking this 50 mg , the Crestar and the now 20 mg of another BP med. I never did take the 100 mg of the Metoprolol, and since then I have stopped the Crestar, lowered the Metoprolol down to 12 mg's gradually over a week and a half, My Self!! The only side effect I experienced by doing this was , two days of waking up to a headacke and the third day, having a very difficult time turning from my right to my left when waking up in the morning, because of a severe heaviness in my head, but I did! That was when I was getting off the 50 mg's. I decided to take 25 mg and work my way off the whole 50! Now I have been on half the 25 mg and took 12.mg for three days now, and stopped taking it all together, Today! No more Crestar. No more Metoprolol, and down 20 mg's of my only BP meds and taking Metformin for the sugar levels. A low dosage of only 1,000 mg's a day! I did not like the side effects either of Metoprolol, nor the future side effects it would cause me down the road! Who wants to be a walking Pharmacy? Not Me! But I caution you to slowly coming off ant meds! Your body may work differently and take longer to come down off meds. Mine has always done poorly when ever taking meds. Not today and for the last 5 days, my BP's are 116/67 with a heart rate of 70 and goes as high as 136/72 with a heart rate of 72. Next it will be to get off all meds and just eat healthier and exercise a lot! This has worked for me, and I pray it will benefit you too! Good luck! By the way, my Doctor wants to see me in five weeks. She is happy for me and only asked that I watch the BP's during this time and to be careful! I am lucky enough to have found this Doctor and is willing to listen to the patient, and work together! That's the key too! Work with your Doctor, and stay in close communication! You'll be Happier that you did! <3

What is the smallest Metoprolol pill size? I have to take 6mg per day and splitting a 25 mg pill into 4 pieces is really bothersome.
