Metformin Pharmaceutical Companies

I've been on Metformin for several years and done well. Recently I refilled the script and the pharmacy had changed suppliers to aurobindo. The pills smelled like rotting fish but I managed to take it. My blood sugar was running higher on this med. the next refill smelled and tasted so strong I could hardly take the pills. I developed horrible nausea and severe diarrhea and lost 15 lbs in 3 weeks. Since my pharmacy refused to order the drug from a different manufacturer I changed to Walgreens who did not use aurobindo and immediately the symptoms were gone. I question the quality control of that manufacturer and worry about using drugs from many foreign countries. I am willing to pay more to feel that the drugs are safe!!!

Hello, Maggie! How are you? Sorry about the problem that you had.

The odor, however, is quite normal for Metformin. The only reason you don't notice it with the tablets from some other manufacturers is due to the fact that they coat their tablets.

Aurobindo tablets are approved by the FDA, so they are considered as safe and effective as any others on the market here.

However, there may have been an inactive ingredient in them that caused your issues, so switching was likely a very good idea.

I also now have metFORMIN 500 mg and it smells like dead fish. It was from AUROBINDO. I DONT FEEL THIS IS SAFE AND SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THE FDA. How can you report this?
