Medrooxyprogesterone
UpdatedI am 46 and had regular monthly periods for many years. Two years ago I had regular periods except straight blood flow constant for two days like wetting my wants. Then two days of blood clots. Then no period until the next month. I assumed getting close to menopause so assumed it was normal. This summer I went to on gun and told her I was wearing three pads at a time, four layers of clothes, and still having leaks every hour or two. She ran both types of ultrasounds found a cyst on the ovary and put me on 10 mg of this from day 15-26. Didn't know what that meant and wanted a second opinion . This doctor said same thing except to take the same med everyday not just days 15-26. Everyday sounded easier to figure out then the specific days. However since being on this drug I have gained 10 pounds which I can't stand and I have no periods at all. I do not want to take the meds if I am going to be heavier than normal. I don't like the side effects I have read, but also don't want to have heavy bleeding again. I have decided to stop the pill today because I can't wait until I have a period because I no longer have them.

Hello, Taylor! How are you doing? Have there been any changes, since you stopped taking it?
Yes, taking it every day could prevent menstruation, since it is a sudden drop off of progesterone each month that causes your period to start.
However, you may also just be skipping your periods due to the natural changes of perimenopause or menopause. Most women who are getting close report experiences very similar to yours.
It is also more likely that the weight gain is due to hormonal changes and not just taking this. It is a normal thing that happens to most women at this stage of their lives.
