I took Lyrica (150mg daily) for 2 years. The medicine helped reduce my leg and hip gain greatly. In January I started working out daily and dieting and lost 30 pounds. I gradually have quit taking Lyrica and am having only a small amount of discomfort at times. The problem is that upon quitting the Lyrica the back of my knees started itching and welps appeared after I scratched them. It has been 3 weeks since I stopped taking Lyrica and I am still itchy. Has this happened to anyone else? Could this be a result of nerve damage? ## Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, it is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain. It sounds like what you may be experiencing is a common withdrawal effect from your body trying to readjust to not havin...

I take Lyrica 50mg 3 times a day. I can fly off the handle and have a short fuse and I'm beginning to think it's the Lyrica. ## Hello, Dan! How are you? I am very sorry about the problem you're experiencing. Yes, this class of medications has been known to cause mood swings, as a side effect, in some people that take it, according to FDA reports, along with nausea, dizziness, headache, and weight gain. Have you informed your physician? You may need to try a lower dosage, or to try a different medication. Though, I must caution you against stopping it abruptly, since that could create the risk of seizures. ## Yep, just happened to me and I got on-line to see if it was possible to have a anger side affect. I took it an hour ago and have had 3 anger outburst over nothing. This ...

Good luck to any1 that succeeds to getin of this drug.. ## Hello, Gina! How are you? How rapid of a taper have you been doing? Properly done, a taper should eliminate most of the withdrawal effects. Has your doctor been helping you? Withdrawal may also cause nausea, dizziness and diarrhea. ## I have...

I took Lyrica for about 8 weeks and felt horrible on it. I had pretty much every side effect you could think of. I began having pitting edema in my legs and extreme pain on the solesof my feet. I weaned off of it and now 6 plus weeks later I am still having swelling and foot pain. Has anyone else experienced this? ## Yes I have had the feet problem. I will be sound asleep and awake to what feels like someone stabbing the heals of my feet with an ice pick. I have never felt anything like this before. ## Some people do not do well on Lyrica, however, side effects do not last for that long after the medication has been discontinued. There are also not listed among the normal side effects and should be reported to your doctor, immediately. Common side effects include: nausea, drowsiness, di...

In 2006 I had surgery for a pinched nerve in the L5-S1 area which was a success. About 2 years ago the symptoms I had when I had the surgery slowy started to come back over time. Earlier this year I had an MRI and went to see an Orthopedic Surgeon (same one that did the original surgery). He said that there are 2 meds for me to try, Diclofenac-Misoprostol & Lyrica. First stated with 50mg of Diclofenac twice daily for a few months, it helped somewhat so after seeing my GP it upped it to 75mg twice daily, not a big difference from the 50mg. The next step for me to take is Lyrica, after seeing the adverse effects on a local TV commerical I am wary of switching to this. Working up high on ladders is part of my job so getting dizzy and not being able to focus is not a good thinkg to have...

Live in Hamilton NJ need dr. to prescribe meds for nerve damage in lower back. I have ins coverage thru work so no clinics please. Don't want drawn out process just want meds to continue standing 7 hours a day.... ## I'm sorry you're suffering and I hope you find help soon. However, as to not wanting to go to a clinic, you really aren't going to have much choice on that. Under the new laws that went into effect at the beginning of the year, changes are being implemented that will no longer allow general practice doctors to prescribe pain medications for long-term use. They will only be allowed to prescribe them for a short period of time, such as when someone has just had surgery or been in an accident, except for in cases of certain rare exceptions. Additionally, you ma...

I took 250 to 300 mg of lyrica daily for fibromyalgia, for 9 years. I have stopped due to medicare supplement insurance doesn't cover it. My Dr. weaned me off over the summer. Now I may not pursue other meds to replace it. It's been 6 weeks since my last dose. I can't eat. Nothing tastes good most days. I had welts during withdrawal, which my hands constantly went to from anxiety. So I'm still healing from those. Many other withdrawals as well. My question is, how long will the lyrica stay with me? When can I really judge that it's the real me, not the withdrawing me or the damaged from years of lyrica me? So glad I'm off it now. ## How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? Are you on any other medications? It is odd for the effects of it to still linger...

What are the latest developments and drugs for controlling the pain of Trigeminal Neuralgia. ## I have been taking Lyrica for Trigeminal neuralgia with some pain relief, however I experienced hallucinations and other mind altering symptoms. I would never consider taking it again. ## Margaret, how much were you taking? Those are not typical side effects for this medication, according to NIH reports. They typically include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. What other medications have you tried? Have you tried any SSRI antidepressants?

He now uses it once every 4 days or so. He has had no withdrawal problems, and is satisfied with how he is using it now. he uses it for bone on bone arthritic pain in his fingers. ## Hello, Jan! How are you? Yes, if you were only taking it for a few days, you should be able to just stop it without a problem. Have you consulted your doctor to see what alternative you can try? ## I take 150 mg of Lyrica every night. I was prescribed it for Fibromyalgia and periferal neuropa...

I recently started taking Lyrica 75mg tid for PNH from an exceptionally severe case of Shingles exacerbated by immune suppressants for Crohn's disease. I live in Oregon and have carried a medical marijuana card since the program began. I use strains that are very high in CBD, usually in a ratio range of 5/2 to 1/1. Pure CBD is not effective. I use vapor pens. My observation is that there is a very strong synergism between these medicines. The PHN pain has been my constant companion for a couple months now and only today was I able to get out of the house for a decent walk. Point being that if you have access to medical marijuana it could be a useful addition for pain relief and to perhaps help keep your Lyrica dose to a minimum. ## While it is still illegal in most areas, it is very...

I took this drug for 4 days only and stopped it because I started to have very bad side effects. These are the side effects I have had: -nausea -diarhea -short of breath -problems sleeping -loss of appetite -started to be depressed -fatigue -numbness, tingling, crawling skin on my legs and arms I have stopped this poison 7 WEEKS ago and the side effect are slowly diminushing! It totally screwed up my summer. It was complete hell for me! The worst thing that makes it even more frustrating is that my physician and pharmacist do not believe that this drug can give these side effects for that long even after quiting. ## I quit a month ago, and I still have shortness of breath(air hunger), and severe itching, especially on my back. ## I feel like all meds are poison and I looked up some thin...

Does anyone know if you gain more weight as you increase the milligrams of Lyrica. I've gone from 150mg a day to 600 & still may have to increase, I know weight gain is a side effect but does it ever level out or as I increase my milligram will I continue to gain? I've already gained 50lbs! ## Yes it can! I tried it & I believe I was allergic to it. I started swelling up immediately & even though I only took for a brief time, the extra weight I gained was super hard to get off. I've heard it helps some tho! Hope this was a little helpful =) ## Hello, RhondaKay! How are you? Several of the side effects from anticonvulsants are known to continue or worsen with time and weight gain is one of them. Mood swings and memory problems can also worsen. However, it really d...

I am on Lyrica for CIDP. I have gained a tremendous amount of weight. Exercise is difficult as I can't stand for long at all. Has anyone else found they can't control their weight? I take 75mg 3x a day. ## Yes, this is a known side effect of the Preabalin in Lyrica, because it is known to increase appetite. Have you consulted your doctor? Do you watch your diet? This may not apply to you, but many people just eat and don't think of portion sizes, or the calorie and fat content of what they eat. ## Nancy, I have been taking this medication [lyrica] for severe neuropathy in my legs and feet. I have gained 50 pounds over a period of 7 years. It is really frustrating. My weight seems to have topped off at an increase of 50 lbs. I am 60yrs, 5'7" and usually 145, but now 2...

I've only taken methamphetamine for a couple of months. I stopped a day ago when I started feeling dizzy. My head and neck have hurt, I've been agitated and having very scary spells of sweaty, nauseated vertigo-like feelings. I started my period I thought but now I'm wondering if I did at all. My urine is very bloody and i'm having abdominal pain. ## Hello, Stephanie! How are you? Please seek medical attention very soon. This is a very, very dangerous drug to be using and you may have done some serious damage that could be putting you in danger. Has the bleeding changed? ## The urinary problems stopped. After some research I think I had seratonin syndrome from using meth while taking lyrica. The only symptom left is a chronic headache and agitation. I honestly think I ov...

I have been taking Lyrica for several months now and have many side effects from this drug. I have gained 10-15lbs, have severe memory loss..simple word finding is difficult.. I have had major hair loss (clumps of hair falling out when wash my hair) and worst of all can not have orgasm because of this drug!!! I am titrating down now becuase side effects are not worth the minimal pain relief I am getting from this drug for fibromyalgia! ## Hello, Kelly! How are you? I am very sorry about the problems that you're having. Similar things have happened to others that have taken Lyrica. However, I do want to caution you to be very careful, when tapering off of it, because stopping abruptly could create the risk of seizures. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am a male who has ha...

I was prescribed Lyrica today. Being the impatient person that I am, I was wondering the normal lenth of time before the medication starts working. ## It took a week for me. What were you prescribed Lyrica for? I started taking it after surgery on my cervical spine and for some reason started having panic attacks or something, dizziness and heart racing, only at night when trying to rest. After being on Lyrica for a week, those symptoms stopped, (not sure why or how it worked). I am now having low back problems and those symptoms have started again, so as of today they have increased my dose of Lyrica. I sure hope it works. ## Depending on the severity of your pain and your own metabolism, it can take anywhere from a week to a month to see results from this. ## I was put on Lyrica recen...

Have severe nerve pain.. been to 4 doctors. Not one will prescribe a pain med. I cannot take Lyrica, Gabapentin, Cymbalta or Amitriptyline. Dangerous side effects. Can anyone help me find a dr.-- I will go anywhere in Ga. or South Carolina that will help me. Pain clinics offer message, hydrotherapy and other things. I need the meds or a patch. ## I'm not sure what part of GA you are in but there are several great pain management doctors in Savannah. I don't want to post any of their names on a public forum because it unfortunately leads to their office being flooded. I will let you know to stay away from Dr Bynes, no one will fill his prescriptions. I wish I could help more but maybe just narrowing down your search area could help. ## What types of side effects do you experience...

I have suffered from all over body pains in muscles & joints for over a year. They have me on a cocktail of meds, none of which seem to assist, such as Cynbalta, Lyrica etc. I have also been on Synap-Forte which seems to assist with the pain the best, but now they want to remove it from the market. I'm at my wits end as this is the only med that really helps. The others just make me feel terrible & & cough like a sick dog when I take Lyrica. The doctors have diagnosed Fibromyalgia, but it seems far more. Can you advise me as this pain is belilitating me that all I do is stay in bed all day. ## I have Fibromyalgia, and most days, it seems as thought there HAS to be something worse going on.
