Lost Libido With Lyrica

Been on Lyrica 2 1/2 wks for fibro, it is a miracle drug for that, and thought with no side effects BUT it seems I do, have lost libido and ability. Hope this goes away as I don't want to quit the drug, does anyone know????

Lyrica contains the active ingredient Pregabalin, an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain.


That said, sexual dysfunction can be a very common side effect. Some side effects will wear off as your body adjusts to the medication, however, if it does not and remains and issue, you will need to consult your doctor.

Thanks Verwon, That is what I am hoping that I will adjust. Do you know if there is another drug that does the same as Lyrica that I could try that may not have same side effect. My husband wants me to shop around!

I have fibro too.. try savella, it had less side effects i found. But its new, and if you have anxeity don't bother it will only make it worse.
As far as losing libido and ability, anything that works on the chemicals in your head might do that. Its along the lines of a anti-depression drug which messes with your brain. ALSO>>> incase no one read this in the side effects of this drug, DO NOT HAVE BABIES WHILE TAKING THIS>> EVEN MEN! It does something to the sperm(not sure double check the website its all over the website for Lyrica) It tells you like 3 different places not to become pregnant weather your a man or a woman.. it is bad for both and reproduction.
I wish you the best with the Fibro.. mine is getting worse and worse and these drugs just make me unable to do anything. I hope you find something that helps. Cymbalta is another one, didn't have to many side effects (it actually made me nicer) But it didn't help with my pain.. we all are different so it might with yours, but still might have the same issue your having now. Savella took all my pain away in 3 days and if it wasnt for feeling like I was running a race standing still I would be on that now.

There are lots of drugs.. Cymbalta, Savella.. and a couple more. Most of those don't have the side effects Lyrica seems to. But since they all work on the brain they might all effect your between the sheets time. Don't take Savella if you have anxiety, if you don't try that first.. it got rid of my pain quick and doesn't take long to work. Plus if you need to stop it there aren't long term effects when coming off it.. lyrica has side effects while you come off.. make sure you ask your doctor how to taper off if you have been on it for a while.

I doubt it it's like the many antidepressants that numb pain but also block pleasure!

.....It seems I have lost all interest in everything including rTV, sewing, knitting, house work everything is this a side effect of Lyrica or a result of a bad eperdural that left me with foot drop? My wish is I had been put on this med a long time ago it has lightened my back pain just to make it tolerable with just Tramadol as a pain released!

I started on it 6 weeks ago and am considering stopping it. I have fibro which has become very bad in the last 3 years, I also suffer from seizures. My gp decided to try this as my anxiety was very bad due to an awful divorce, pain was off the scale, I wasn't sleeping and she thought it may help with the seizures. It has helped with most things and I'm definitely more mobile BUT I used to have a very high sex drive and my sex life is very important to me. I have lost all desire to have sex and even when I do I just don't get the pleasure from it. I cant work, have become disabled and hardly get out now and I feel this drug has taken from me the only good thing I had left! I am glad it's not just me and it appears it is a common side effect but if only there was something else..

I have chronic sciatic pain that I've had for over 16 years. The lyrica has been a miracle for
me. After about 3 months I have noticed a dramatic drop in libido. Honestly, I'm ok with it.
My post menapausal wife felt like sex was a chore or obligation. Now that I'm no longer
motivated for sex its kind of a relief for me as I am no longer feeling like I have to impose
on her for something she no longer cares for. So I guess its a good thing for me although
I do ocassionaly think back to how things were in the "good old days". :)

Gabapentin is another you could try, but you may have the same side effects. Im only guessing due to it being a similar drug as Pregabalin.
Im reducing my pregabalin for my Fibro and already after a week i've noticed i feel better for it. Im starting to use Essential oils for my pain and dietary changes. Good luck finding an alternative med x
