My nephrologist prescribed lisinopril. Although I was already on Losarten prescribed by my cardiologist. I soon developed a cough that I could not shake with lisinopril Even with cough drops. It also effected by singing voice which rendered it useless. Went back to Losarten

I've been taking Losartan for almost 2 years now due to the unbearable coughing that began apprx. 9 years taking Lisonopril .
I also take it prior to bed time or within an hour before bed time , works fine for me , that upper number 200+ is rather high .
I'd let your Dr. / Cardiologist know those Numbers , you don't want # 6 and that I mean by 6 Feet Deep .

My doctor changed my bp med from Lisinopril 20 mg to Losartan 25 mg. After 2 months of headaches, ringing in my ears and my bp slowly climbing I went back to my doctor and he said that I need it to control my stress level and within a week I ended up in the ER with 200/109 blood pressure reading.

What else are you taking? And what is your diet? There are a lot of things that effect your B/P . Give all this info to your doctor. I have been taking Losarten for years with no negative side effects .

I was on Lisinopril for 9 years. I'm a type 1 diabetic with high bp. I had hair loss especially when the doc add 25mg water pill to it. I was switch a year later to 25mg Losartan. All these docs tell every patient they protect your kidneys. I think they just tell us that. My bp is still 136/74 at the lowest but spikes high throughout my work day. I'm going to ask about Carvedilol because it helps lower bp by blocking B1, B2, and A1 receptors..and helps balance the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic nervous system of which apparently is out of balance with diabetics from a research journal i found...i need better homeostasis in my body with hair loss and other issues without being doped up on meds. Thanks for replies and answers from anybody. Correct me please if im wrong about something. I want to learn more and help others.

I find it somewhat ironic that I've yet to ever read a comment that ever managed to help, if anything that mostly seemed to worsen / aggravate an unwanted situation. I finally decided to consider doing something on my own being in 42 years a Dr. has yet to in so far as avoiding another unwanted medical dilemma. I bought a Blood Pressure Monitoring Device along with a Note Book. Every Morning before breakfast I sit down / relax and Press the Start / Stop button on the device and it begins to Inflate the Sleeve, after a brief period a Digital Display gives me my Systolic / Diastolic & BPM numbers. I then take Note and Enter them into my Note Book and it is after seeing those Numbers I know what in all likelihood is going on, I also do that same thing Mid - Day, Numbers Talk. Funny as it may sound, while reaching for my Oatmeal container this morning it slipped out of hand, half of the container is now in my vacuum. After that I decided to take my Blood Pressure, low and behold it was 30 points Higher Systolic and noticeably higher on the other Two Numbers as well. Case in point, try to relax, live one day at a time, get a little exercise (if possible), try to eat the right foods, and if you have the money buy a blood pressure monitor as it may help avoid unnecessary trips to both the Dr. and ER.

Did you try taking the Losartan Nightly prior to reverting back to Lisinopril , I know that method eliminated the cough , the cough was an unbearable adverse reaction for me . Good Luck

I take a reading of blood pressure prior to taking meds & eating , twice daily a.m. / p.m. of course , sitting still at least 5 minutes prior / relax , maintain diary in book , numbers talk . Rather than have an opinion based on a " random reading " I know what is going on numerically based on facts NOT ONE RANDOM READING , a word to the wise , invest in a Blood Pressure Monitor and notebook if you are concerned about yourself , you come in alone and in most cases go out alone .

The statement about being allergic after having been on lisinopril HCTZ for a while is true. I have taken lisinopril HCTZ for roughly 27 years but wound up with severe (almost burn like ) rash on my face that I had to have a steroid shot for. The doctor changed me to Losarten.... I guess we'll see how that works.

Look up side effects of Losartan. This med can damage your kidneys...it did mine. They are better now as I got off the stuff.

Re: cat (# 13) Expand Referenced Message

I took Lisinopryl for several years, then suddenly one day had a reaction. Fave began swelling. Went to Urgent Care; for shot & pills. It eventually stopped swelling but did not go down. Ended up in Emergency Room that night on I've until swelling went down. Lucky throat & tongue didn't swell.
