Lo Loestrin Fe And Continuous Bleeding (Page 10)

Updated

I started taking Lo Loestrin FE on Feb. 2nd and it is now Feb. 21st and I have been bleeding non-stop (literally all day, every day). Doctor says to wait it out for 3 months... 3 months of non-stop bleeding? I've heard of breakthrough bleeding but this crazy!

I have the exact problem! It's only my second week on the pill and it just started bleeding today. Glad I'm not the only one though.

So glad I found this! I have been on Lo Loestrin for going on 3 weeks now. Began the pill the first day of my period and had THE MOST PAINFUL period I have ever had. And my normal 4-5 day period lasted 8 days! I then stopped bleeding for a day and was intimate with my boyfriend that night and began bleeding immediately after and have not stopped for more than an hour since! This is 15 days of nonstop bleeding. For the first 5 days I was in such awful pain I thought there was something seriously wrong; on the 5th day I got the worst migraine I have ever had. I called my gyno and got the "wait 3 months" Upon the 6-7 days I was experiencing extreme fatigue and lightheadedness. (still have a bit of that) days 8-10 i was bloated and cramping and bleeding heavily. Bloating that was NOTICED by those I interacted with. My bloating has subsided a bit and I'm no longer in pain but have continued bleeding heavily nonstop and my irritability levels are through the roof! (dont know if this is my frustration or the pill.) This is not what I consider "breakthrough bleeding" this is like a second period! I have called my gyno 3 times and all 3 times they are INSISTING I stay on for the 3 months. No one should have to go through this! I have been on other BC pills and have never had this issue only side effects I've ever had were awful mood swings (hence wanting a lower dosage pill)... Has anyone gone through this and just eventually stopped? I really really just want to feel normal again!

I was so bloated that I swear I looked like I was about 6-7 months pregnant when I was on the lo loestrin. I also struggled to have a BM on the meds. Between those issues an the constant bleeding and moodiness, I was miserable.

I went off of them completely since my husband had a vasectomy (YIPPEE!! Highly recommended!) When I went off the pills, I had just started another round of periods (I was getting a periods every 10-12 days). Once that period ended, my next period didn't arrive until about 5-6 weeks later. It was more like my normal old periods I had before pills. I noticed some of the side effects went away within a few weeks. About a month after being off the pills, I began to feel much better. So glad to be off those horrible things. Don't stay on them for 3 months. The docs say that, but they aren't the ones suffering with nearly constant periods.

Update re. LoLoestrin and continuous bleeding. I spoke w my doctor and few weeks after that went to a different dr for opinion and they agreed I should stay on the pill full 3 months before making a decision on what to do next. So I will stick it out and then see. The bleeding seems to be much less now and I'm hopeful that it will work out for me. My initial bloating subsided and now I'm free of other unpleasant symptoms other than continuous spotting. Looks like it works different for everyone. It's a guessing game and trial and error w these hormonal preparations!!!

So, first three months of taking LoLoestrin 24 I didn't get a period at all on the placebos, nothing. I did occassionally feel achy, mildly crampy, but no bleeding at all. Then, last month (March) I started spotting about 5 days before I was to start the placebos. That stopped after a day or so and when I did get to the placebos, no period. I thought, OK just some breakthrough bleeding, nothing big, I'll take it over my heavy, painful, irregular periods earlier last year. Started my next pack and barely 2 weeks in, I started cramping badly, enough to need the heating pad and taking 3 advil at a time. I was spotting, dark brown, not really enough to need a tampon but didn't know what to expect so I kept myself "prepared". Well, it's been 5 days of this now and today I was actually bleeding, not spotting, and still have cramping....again, I still have a third of my pack to go until the placebos. This is driving me crazy, this is the third kind of BC that I've been on since August to help with the pain and heavy irregular bleeding....HELP!

I am 42 and started Lo Loestrin on the first day of my period which was Monday 4/8. The first day and half were great very light. Since Tuesday night my period has been heavier than usual. Not happy. Usually by day 4 things are wrapping up and I am back to normal. I never had these problems on loestrin. The only other side effects I have experienced is frequent urination and I have lost 2 pounds. I was really looking forward to having sex with my boyfriend this weekend but it doesn't' seem like that is going to happen. If this isn't over by Monday my doctor will be hearing from me.

*UPDATE* My bleeding never stopped, I got so fed up of hearing the "wait 3 months" that I went to a completely different ob/gyn practice. LADIES do NOT settle for feeling miserable for 3 months for your body to adjust. There's no need. If this doesn't work for you chances are something else WILL! The estrogen in the LoLoestrin was just too low for me. I have now switched to Chryselle (generic Lo/Ovral) and I feel GREAT. in 1 day I had no more bleeding. 3 days later I had no more bloating and my moodiness has completely gone away. and I FINALLY feel like having sex again. Definitely a necessary change. Good luck girls!

I am SO GLAD I found this site. I've had myself worried sick the last few days...and now I've calmed down considerably seeing that I'm not the only person who is having issues with Lo Loestrin Fe!

Backstory: I was on Yaz for several months for acne in my late teens-early twenties - terrible. Duh.
Then I was on a generic of ortho tri cylen (again, recommended by my dermatologist) in my mid-twenties and I had the worst emotional breakdown - I actually was taken off bc and put on Zoloft for PMDD. Nightmare.

A regular trip to the gyno earlier this year found me discussing Lo Loestrin with my doctor and I decided to try it - AGAIN, with the idea that it would "help my skin" and be OK with the emotional stuff since it's so low on estrogen.

WELL. I'm fine emotionally - but I'm having the SAME physical symptoms as everybody else. I'm on the first week of my third month and - surprise! - I've started bleeding for no apparent reason 5 days after my (light flow but BLACK in color) period ended. I'm having cramps, sore breasts, breakouts on the forehead, etc.

I'm also losing TONS of hair - I was so surprised to read that others have experienced this...the other day I had two tennis-ball-sized clumps in each hand, I kid you not.

I'm at my lowest weight in years (147 lbs) and I feel literally 400 lbs. My pelvis is constantly swollen.

I also broke up with a guy because not only did I not have a sex drive...I actually didn't even want to be kissed, touched - he could have shaken my hand and I would have been like, "eww" -- my attraction to the opposite sex is just...gone. Done.

So, that's that. I'm finishing this pack and I am DONE with birth control. DONE!!! My periods were perfectly normal. Ugh! This stuff is awful.

I am going through menapause and was put on lo loestrin fe to regulate my periods, because they've been very irregular.
My tubes are tied, I had an oblation 2 years ago and within 3 days of taking this pill I have non stop bleeding. This is day 7 on the pill and I've thrown the pack away and am searching for a new doctor.
Thanks to all of you who posted! I thought it was only me and my body crapping out on me; was worried about hysterectomy.
Never was I warned about this side effect. thank you all and good luck to each of you.
Hugs

I have been b loestrin for about 3weeks and have had my period everyday since, I just stopped taking it. No it's not normal for your body to do it, get another pill!

I began to take Lo Loestrin Fe on 5/17/13, the second day of my period. Everything was going fine and twice, within the first two weeks of taking the pill, I missed taking it on time and wound up taking the pill later or really late in the day (I followed the instructions in the box for what happens when you miss 1 blue pill).

Well, the next morning after being intimate with my boyfriend I began to bleed. At first I thought I was getting my period 2 weeks early! But since I kept bleeding for a whole 7 days without any cramps and they were quite light and brown after a couple of days, I was positive it was breakthrough bleeding.

So today is day 7 and I called by OB/GYN. He suggested that I continue with the pills for 1 more month to see how it works. What he explained to me is that the pill acts like a "glue" for your uterus and if you do not take it on time, even missing it by an hour or more, the uterus lining will start to shed and that is why the BTB happens. He suggested I make sure to take the pill at the SAME TIME EVERY DAY, set an alarm, reminder, or something to make sure of it. If I do and still get BTB, then the dosage may be too low and I will be given different pills that are a level higher in hormones.

Admittedly, I have missed taking my pill within a half hour to 2 hours on "good days" where I remember pretty close to time, and that makes sense as to why I still have the BTB. So, I'm going to stick to the daily reminder I've set for myself on my phone and will see if it goes away.

I have the same problem. Lo Loestrin Fe caused me to have periods about every two weeks, even after four months of being on it, and its expensive. So I decided to come off it. Well lets just say it turned on the the dam...Ive soaked through five super high absorbency tampons and 3 pairs of underwear in a 7 hour time frame. Hopefully it stops soon. How long did it last for you?

OMG same happened to me... I have been taking LoLestrin since February this year, took me 3 months to start controlling the bleeding, and then last month I forget to take the pill in the morning, the usual time, and take it in the evening the same day instead. The bleeding started the next day, and hasn't stoped 3 weeks now. Could it really be because of one pill taken 'late'? Really?

So my On/gun switched me from Loestrin (that I've been taking with no problems since 2008) to Lo loestrin this February because my body was taking in too much estrogen and turning it to testosterone. I have been fine up until tonight. My back started cramping and it moved around to my abdomen. I noticed that I've started bleeding. This is a BUMMER! The last time I had to deal with bleeding was after giving birth to my son in 2010, in 2009 before that when my husband and I were trying for a baby, and I'm 2007 way before I started the pill! I'm hoping that this does not last long! :(

I stopped takin loloestrin and I have had constant bleeding for a year now since stopping it. My dr said its normal to bleed for a few months after stopping birth control but a year later this drug has messed up my body and my sex life and gave me depression while on it I think this medication should be banned

I started taking lo loestrine exactly 3 months ago and should be starting my 4th pack today but I will not be. I see why these are called birth control, because you're on your period the entire time! All 3 months, I had my period 3 times each month, I'd say I didn't have my period for a total of 7 days each month. After the first pack I called my doctor and was told everything should be normal once I finish the 2nd pack. Well everything continued through the 3rd pack so I called again also because I needed my prescription refilled and wasn't sure what I should do. I was told to try a 4th pack and see. I have never taken birth control before this, I just had a baby in February and don't want another one for awhile. I have always had the same period even once it started back up after the baby then it went crazy on these pills. Anyways, the last 3 weeks I've had horrible aching in my feet & legs and it's turned into numbess in certain spots. I went to the ER yesterday & they asked what I've done different and I told them about the pills. The nurse & doctor said DO NOT take another one of those pills! The doctor told me my issue could be caused by one other thing if its not from the pills but to stop taking them and see if things get better. So we'll see, either way I will not be taking these anymore.
