3.5 months ago I was having serious anxiety issues and depression. I was prescribed 5mg of lexapro and honestly saw results immediately the first week. I felt so calm and feeling myself coming back. 3.5 months later it's all back - crippling depression and horrible anxiety that lasts all day. I got upped to 10mg but the past 3 days have been utter hell Is this a normal thing to happen? Just all of a sudden stop working? ## Hello, Thomas! I am very sorry about what you're going through. Has there been any change? Yes, that has been known to happen, though it can vary from person to person. It could be that Lexapro just isn't the right medication for you, and you may need to try something else. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, hea...

Is this a drug used in the treatment of depression? ## Based on the spelling and indication, I'm pretty sure you meant to say Lexapro. Lexapro is an antidepressant used for the treatment of major depressive disorder and generalized anxiety disorder; other indications include social anxiety disorder, panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder. Hope this helps! ## I had a dream last night about something like Lexoprin? It would relieve some of my chronic pain and weakness from viral infections, EBV, CFIDS, etc. I have been dealing with for over 50 years. But there is no Lexoprin, is there? I don't have major depression, or anxiety, though I like to be alone because of the above mentioned problems. ## There is a drug called Lexoprin which is used as a pain medication for tend...

Hello, it just came to my attention that I may have taken too much of my medication (Lexipro 15mg) I think I've taken about 30mg total? I forgot that I had taken it earlier today and when I got home I took some more without really thinking until after I took it. I then asked my mom in hopes that she'd say that I didn't take it this morning but she said that I did so now I'm worried, should go to the ER?? Please let me know as soon as possible.. ## An occasional double dose of Lexapro would not be considered an overdose, though it may cause worsened side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, and drowsiness. Lexapro is an SSRI, so unless you have a serious adverse reaction, emergency medical treatment is likely not necessary. But, if you aren't sure, call your ...

What false positives will show on a drug screen with Lexapro? ## Lexapro contains the active ingredient Escitalopram, it is an SSRI antidepressant. As such, it will not show up as anything on a drug screen, it contains no opiate, Benzodiazepine or Amphetamine properties, which are what is normally tested for. Why did you think it would? ## Many prescription medications and over the counter medications that are not supposed to have urine metabolites of something else show up. Individuals who are in positions to receive frequent urine drug screens must always be aware of which medication could cause a problem. (ie- ranitidine shows up as methamphetamines in urine) just in case you did not know. SSRI's with the ending of 'pram' are questionable, just as any medication that may ...

I have a family member that has a history of cocaine abuse. They are prescribed generic lexapro. My family member recently had a positive drug screen. Could the generic lexapro cause a false positive, and if so, for what? ## It shouldn't. An older class of antidepressants known as TCAs (Tricyclic Antidepressants) would, but not SSRIs or SNRIs. There's a fairly good Wikipedia article on what's included in a standard drug panel: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drug_test However, you should be aware that the "poppy seed" myth, isn't a myth. If you're subject to random testing for opiates, just stay say no to that poppyseed bagel. snopes.com/medical/drugs/poppyseed.asp ## I just read an article from a medical study saying that lexapro (or escitalopram oxalate) can cause fa...

I was just wondering if anyone has drank with this med and were there any side effects? I've been on lexapro 10 mg for a month and am feeling great but I am petrified to even attempt to drink alcohol, but would like to try. So if anyone could help that would be great. ## I have been on Lexapro for 3 years. I drink about twice a week and everything seems to be fine. I have noticed that if you drink heavly for a few nights in a row you will feel a slight depression. Just don't over do it. I was worried at first also. ## Lexapro is an antidepressant. Drinking alcohol is not recommended, as alcohol is a major depressant, and undoes the work the medication does. ## Never do that! I was on that medicine for 2 years, and I was never able to drink! the first time I drank when I was on l...

Will it show up on a 12 panel screen test and is it in the benzos family?

I need to get of Lexapro because of the side effects but understand the withdrawl is a horror ## Hi Kate, Usually for drugs like this the safest way to stop taking them is to tapper off them, if possible. Some medications can be taken in fractions (actually cut into pieces) and these smaller pieces can be taken in place of the regular dose for a period of several weeks until the body is no longer dependent upon them. In addition to that, I'd also suggest making yourself a tapering schedule on a calender to track your progress and keep you on the right path to complete your goal within a specific time frame. Without a way to track your progress, tapering can sometimes be much more difficult than it needs to be. I hope this advice helps! ## I just started Lexapro, normal spoken side e...

My pharmacy has changed manufacturers of escitalopram and I feel withdrawal or discontinuation syndrome. Is this normal? ## Hello, Tina! How are you? There can be slight fluctuations in the amount of the active ingredient from one generic to another, so the new one may be a little lower, which could be causing the problem. Have you spoken to your doctor? They may want to prescribe the name brand to avoid this, in the future, or even raise your dose slightly to make up for the discrepancy. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this medication as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I was taking the Forest Lexapro until 6 weeks ago when I switched to Lundberg (same dosage). 3 weeks ago I started experi...

I have been off Lexapro for almost a week now (1 year on 20mg) I am having horrible withdrawals eg. Feeling like Im being zapped through my head chest & arms, especially when I move, insomnia, feeling obsessive, feeling manic, no concentration, feeling like I'm not myself and so on.. I'm just wanting to know if there is anything I can do as I am so close to just starting back on them, I don't know if I can handle this ## Hello, Emily! How are you doing? Have things improved, at all, yet? That is fairly typical for withdrawal from SSRIs, according to the information provided by the FDA. Generally, tapering is preferred, rather than stopping cold turkey, to prevent the worst of the withdrawal and rebound effects. You may also experience nausea, chills and diarrhea. It usua...

Has anybody had an elevated liver profile due to the use of lexapro? ## Brian, that was not the case for me. As far as the cost of this drug goes, is there another Depression Medication besides Lexapro that i can use that is less expensive? Lexapro is very expensive for me. When will the generic version be on the market? ## Yes, Brian, it has been known to cause that as a side effect, and you may also experience headache, dry mouth, mood changes, and weight changes. Patricia, did you end up trying any other medication? This one is available as a generic, now, under the name Escitalopram. How expensive is it for you? Do you have insurance, or an RX discount card?

I have taken 30mg of Lexapro for past 4 years. After the deaths of my son and his wife in a plane crash the depression and anxiety were more than I could bear. This past May I was changed to the generic escitalopram. God Forbid!!!! What a nightmare. Within three weeks I was suicidal, I was going through SSRI withdrawals which are vicious. I am now paying over $225.00 per month for Brand Lexapro as my insurance will NOT cover it even with prior auth or any other reason. My Medicare Advantage plan leaves a lot to be desired even though I pay a $152.00 per month premium. Has anyone else had problems with the generic Lexapro? My pharmacist said I am not the first. ## I've been on Lexapro for 4+ years and got switched to generic as well. Initially the generic just didn't work (it was...

Hi. I was on Lexapro for 3 years. I started on 10mg and as my life at work continued to get worse I went to 20mg, but I never realized till I weaned off the drug how apathetic it made me. I was a fit, energetic, thoughtful person. While it helped with my anxiety it managed to withdraw my appetite for life in general. I actually alienated those I loved and I started drinking more and not worrying about the effect it had on others. I just didn't seem to care. Has anyone else experienced this effect? I am no longer anxious, l feel more alive after coming off it and ready to meet new challenges. The worst side effect when I was on it was I took up smoking, I lied to my partner about it and now I have lost her. ## Hello, Ash! How are you doing, now? Lexapro contains Escitalopram, it is u...

Is anybody else getting this, please help I really like what lexapro is doing for my anxiety but I'm scared I could be getting a wierd side effect.. help ## Hi Jen30 - while a tingling sensation is not listed as a common side effect of Lexapro, if this is the only drug which you are taking, and the tingling started within the time you started taking it, I would be inclined to think the same thing as you. Any changes in your eating or sleeping habits? Are you taking any other medications with this? ## I just started Laxapro and I too have tingling in my legs. How frequent are hallucinations while taking lexapro? Has anyone experienced this side effect? I am taking lexapro for anxiety and it has decreased the anxiety, but the hallucinations are awful. Thanks. ## That is not a normal side effect that the FDA lists for this medication. The typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache, weight changes, and mood changes. When are they occuring? Is it when you sleep, or when you are awake? Are you on any other medications? ## They are occurring during the day-usually late afternoons. Most times I'm seeing my daughter in the house in a frozen position without movement. On no other medications other than crestor, carvedilol and aggrenox. I have had eye surgery for glaucoma and still having problems with vision.
