Hello, Amie! How are you?
Technically, any doctor with their license to practice medication could prescribe it, however, due to the new directives set forth by the DEA last year, most will not and will require you to go to a psychiatrist. To avoid improper prescribing and over prescribing, it's been decided that it's best for specialists to handle the prescribing of such medications.
Doctors can, in some cases, prescribe them for existing patients, without any issues, but most have just gone hands-offs. The FDA lists Adderall as a stimulant that is most commonly used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy. It carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, weight loss and insomnia.
Can anyone recommend a good doctor in that area that might help?
