Is Soma Simlar To Flexiril

is soma similar or in the same categeory as flexiril, and if not, what is the difference between them? is soma stronger and is it a narcotic?

Soma and flexeril are both muscle relaxers with soma being stronger than flexeril. However, soma also contains aspirin which flexeril does not.

Tracy is spot on, except for one thing…

Soma does not contain any Aspirin.

The active ingredient in Soma is only Carisoprodol, which is a muscle relaxant.

The one that contains other ingredients would be called Soma Compound and that one combines Carisoprodol and Aspirin, there is also another that contained both of those with Codeine, but I am not sure if it's still available.

So, I just wanted to make it clear that the regular one that's just called Soma and its generics do not contain any Aspirin.

Soma can most certainly contain aspirin in certain forms. The below information taken directly from this site.

"Carisoprodol is a centrally acting skeletal muscle relaxant. The drug is available by itself or mixed with aspirin, and in one preparation with codeine and caffeine, as well."

PS, Verwon, Soma is Soma. When writing a script, you don't write " Soma or Soma Compound." There are only 2 types: Soma and Soma + Codeine. It has been on the market for 50 years and as of July 2012 it became a controlled substance, even without the codeine present. So, Soma & Soma Compound are actually the same, just depends on who is writing the script for HOW it is written.

Tracy, I'm all for sticking it to Verwon but there is a difference between the compound which contains the aspirin, plain Soma, and the Soma with Codeine & Caffeine. Also it became a federally schedule 4 medicine in December 12, 2011.

Eddy, thx for the info. I just never saw a doc write it that way & when I looked it up it only gave me the 2, one w ASPRIN & the other w codeine. Are you sure they left the soma at a schedule 4? I heard of a change with it since last July. I honestly don't know much about what they did & when they did it, just what I read. So, thx again.

Soma finally was re classified Tracy to a Schedule 4 Controlled medicine, in the same category as the Benzodiazepines now. Honestly those of us who take Soma know it does get you high, and the Doctors know it too. I even asked last week when I picked up some more Soma from my new Doctor if 'Miltown' is still made or allowed to be dispensed, and it is. Like a stronger version of Soma containing Meprobamate which is a substance found in the liver of those who use Soma.

Eddy, I never got a high from soma. I just looked high! I only felt extremely tired. They were prescribed 350mg 1 qid (4x per day) and I could not take them that often! I would have been sleeping all day & nite! I've never heard of Miltown unless they go by another name maybe? I do know my Soma rx did not say Soma Compound on the bottle but it did contain ASPRIN. The pharmacist told me it did. That's why I thought the diff soma vs soma compound didn't exist anymore & they just kept the soma compound written as soma. Did that make sense? LOL.

Miltown was like the Soma of the 60's. Soma, breaks down in your body in the form of Meprobmate, the active ingredient of Miltown. Miltown was scheduled by the FDA a long time ago as a class IV medicine yet Soma was left alone. About the compound, it is quite possible that the doctor did write for the compound? They also make Soma with Tylenol (Somaset) in other Countries. My Doctor started to write for a 250 mg Soma last week and I thought he might have been looking at Soma compound. Now I see they do make a plain 250 mg Soma too. I said it gets you high because you can bounce into a wall and laugh with Soma, until the bruise appears!

LOL@ bouncing in to wall.....I hear ya there! I didn't know soma also is made w APAP. interesting. I had the 250mg once and they did absolutely nothing for me! I will just take lortab when I need to.
