If you are pregnant already don't listen to them talk to your doctor first.When I was pregnant my doctor told me not to stop taking my methadone because it will make the fetus go into shock and die,causing me to miss carry.So I stayed on and I had a healthy baby.The only problem with that is that my baby had to take methadone for 2 weeks.(If your on a higher dose it might take longer if your on a lower dose it might be shorter).If your not pregnant already you should get off first it would be best you can breastfeed then(Methadone passes through breast milk).

There is a VERY high possibility that your baby could be addicted to opiates when it is born. There is also a very good chance that department of children and family services will take custody of him/her if the child is born addicted.

my son was born 19 years ago when i was on a meth program. at that time they detoxed you while pregnant...i got down to 12 mgs when i had him. he did not have any withdraw and today is a sophomore in college with a B average.today they think it is better for the baby not to detox the mother, but then the baby is going to go thru withdraw. i don't know... but i definately think methadone is the safest drug to use during pregnancy.

yes you can you need to tell where ever you get your methadone dose from that your pregnant whether its a doctor or a clinic and they will help you dnt come off it yourself it is extremely dangerous to the fetus. when you are pregnant they will keep you on a stable dose untill the third trimester then thery can start to reduce you while monitering you if you are not on a high dose of methadone you may even be able to come off the methadone before your babie is born. you will get help before and after. good luck.

yes,you can go to the methadone clinic while pregnant but in my opinion the better choice is to find an o.b.to give you SUBUTEX.They are ONLY for pregnant women&are not even an opiate!!!
