I Call It Nascar In My Head

Updated

I've been off Effexor now for 1 solid week but when I Started Tappering off I had the zapping things going on in my head when I moved my eyes left to right ..
I can't stand it I'm gunna go crazy if I can't figure out what is going on and how to get rid of them . Any one else had this happen to them is there something I can take to subside this or when will it stop ?

I took Effexor a few years ago and I had the symptoms when I went off of it. Don't know if there is anything that can be taken to lessen the symptoms but they do fade over time. Took about 4 weeks for them to completely disappeared.

@Czara,

Based on my research, it sounds to me like the length of time it takes for the brain zaps to subside may vary for each individual. I've heard about some patients experiencing them for up to 6 weeks after discontinuing treatment... but as Brenda mentioned, they may go away sooner (i.e. within 4 weeks). My guess is that the time frame is relevant to how long, how much and how frequently you took it before tapering off.

Another thing I want to add is that other patients reported having success supplementing with fish oil and vitamin C in order to minimize their brain zaps. I can't say that this will work for everyone, but it certainly seems like it may be worth a shot if all else fails.

I hope this helps!

Why are you going off them in just a week if you started taking them just a week ago it takes sometimes four to six weeks to see if they work I know I was on 150 of Effexor for a couple years and had to taper off because Effexor affects your blood pressure some side affects but if you were only on it for a week I don't know I would think that wouldn't be long enough to have many side effects at all what does were you on and for what

I have been on them for 2yrs and now I now longer need them because the Doctors found out what my condition is and Effexor will not help with it !

A couple years ago i was taking effexor probably for around 6 months.
I had a horrible time on it seem to make my symptoms worse.
I went cold turkey with it, first two weeks i couldn't even get out of bed, felt nauseous, headaches and the brain zapping feeling was terrible.
most symptoms got better after two weeks, brain zaps took about four weeks to complety.
Hang in there might feel like crap now but its gets better ;)

Hi. I went from venlafaxin 150 mg to 75 mg for approx. 1 week and i just went on 0 5 days ago. Apart of the brain zapping and filmlike dreams I have not such a lot w/s. I just eat meals of vegetable and rice and cook with quite a lot of crushed ginger. Maybe that helps... Who knows what is to come for me in the next days. I just think positive and try to ignore the symptoms as much as possible. I just do what I always do. The dizziness and brain zapping is a pain in the a.. but I am stubborn enough to just manage. I wished there would be less withdrawal symptoms for a lot of people in the forums. They all go through hell. God bless

I also gained 10 kg in one year. Hope I survive my cold withdrawal and loose that. I am still @ the beginning. For today no big problems. Just little brain zapping. Hope that stays like this.
