I am also on 8mg of Hydromorphone and have my Rx's filled regularly at Walgreens. The max perscribbed dose of this medication is 4x/day which comes to a monthly script total of 120 tablets.

My thoughts are that a special code is needed/required by law for your script due to the fact that your doctor is perscribbing more than the maximum allowed dosage for this medication.

The maximum prescribed doses per day can actually be 6 doses, since it can be taken every 4 hours, if needed that often.

However, this really has to do with the new dispensing laws that are being enforced. Many pharmacies hadn't been doing so prior to this and the FDA and DEA are no longer giving them a choice in the matter.

Prescriptions need to be verified and there is a limit on how much of any controlled substance they can dispense to any one person at once.

Another problem might be if you've been taking it for a long time for chronic pain, but the doctor prescribing it is a general practitioner and not a pain management specialist.

That is something that is also changing. Your regular family doctor can only prescribe small amounts for short-term pain treatment, such as if you've had surgery or been in an accident. They will no longer be allowed to prescribe large amounts every month, since they aren't considered to be properly trained to handle the long-term control of pain.

Thus, if you aren't under the care of a pain management specialist at this time, you may want to start looking for one now.

Does anyone have any comments or questions?

Also, It may be insurances will only pay for a specific amount of medication, so they are also dictating what the patient can get. The power of the Doctor's is being slowly taken away by the Insurance Industry, and the Pharmacies, and "government". It took me 3-4 years to get the right combination of medicines to work for me, but the last 5 years the combo has worked. But now these other forces are trying to say that we cannot do it this way. It is getting rough out there, especially in Florida.

I left off, the "code", is probably your diagnosis code, which is required now on RX's for controlled substances, in FL / or by certain insurance companies.

It's a diagnosis code, needed to verify if you are a legit user of the medicine. It's to prevent heroin addicts from getting hydromorphone. Most pharmacies refuse to carry it because it is extremely dangerous.

I have been getting oxycodone 30mg for 10 years now from the same Walgreens. As of yesterday they will no longer fill my prescription. The New pharmacist has decided this. All the good pharmacist have left. Does anyone now if I can call the DEA or attorney general and get some help from them. I can't believe florida and Walgreens and everyone is doing this.

I think that it's odd that the pharmacy is refusing to fill a prescription that they've been providing for ten years to you. Yes, oxycodone is a controlled substance; however, the pharmacy seems to be receiving the proper documentation (written prescription with no refills). I would speak to the prescriber to see what alternatives you may have. I would also write a letter to Walgreens' corporate office and let them know what has happened. It's just not right to deny a chronic pain patient the treatment that he/she needs.

VERWON. You seem to be extremely knowledgeable about opiates and benzo's. Are you a pain management doctor? I'm just curious because I see your posts everywhere!!

This is an outright war on chronic pain patients. They get you hooked on pharmaceuticals and then when you hit the limit they leave you to suffer.

Know your medication before you agree to anything. The synthetics are a b**** to withdraw from.

Any doctor worth his salt should prescribe you the weakest opiate that manages your daily pain
and a stronger one for breakthrough pain.

Most only use one pain medication because they are scared to death of the DEA.

Can one truly blame the doctors? Put yourself in their shoes for a moment. They spend many years and much money to become a doctor and the DEA can strip them of their license, or jail them in an instant for whatever reason.

The DEA are not doctors and have no medical training yet they decide how much is too much.

Is it fair? Is the financial terrorism by the banking cartel fair? Is life fair? Is John Corzine God? Someone somewhere has it worse than you, so be grateful for what you do have while you have it.

If you are not in the 1% club you are the enemy of the club. They agencies are not there to protect you, they exist to protect the 1%.

Its not going to get better any time soon in the US.

If you can, go see a pain doctor outside of the US. Declare everything coming back in.

So long as the medication is available in the US and you declare it is for personal use only you shouldnt have a problem.

This is not a cheap solution unless you have travel benefits or miles.

It will not covered by insurance, but you wont have the restrictions. For some it is worth it, for others it is out side of their financial ability. Maybe if you dont eat out for lunch and cut back on the things you dont need like cable television and an i phone you can do it.

Expect to pay about 21 cents per mg. for oxycontin. Generic may not be an option, but at least it wont be Plasticontin.

The doctors visit will cost you between $40 and $150 depending on where you go.

Some countries only have tramadol and most of you know how useless that is.

For those in the US that are in the area of Capitol Spine Pain Management which recently changed its name to National Spine Pain Management, I recommend you go there if you are willing to sign contracts that you dont get a copy of and play by the rules which can change at the drop of a dime with no legal obligation to tell you. Other than the rules that have been forced upon them they are good doctors.

Remember thanks to HIPPA everything you say is no longer between you and your doctor. It may be shared with other doctors and the devil knows who else.

If you dont request your medical records be sent directly to you, you wont know what is being shared.

If you go the suboxone route that will be the last opiod you will ever see and you will be labelled an addict.

Change your diet to low sugar, low carb, use exercise, and prayer to cope.

We are less than dogs. Useless eaters. You can complain to whatever agency you want, and you will just end up on a not so good list. If you do so, choose your words with care.

Oh, I agree Kevin. But unfortunately, it is only necessary for the pharmacist to say that he or his store is "uncomfortable with" dispensing any medication they like, and they are within the law. If he cites "the potential for abuse, even though I'm not directing this at you specifically", he is in the clear. CVS pulled this on me last night when I attempted to fill a prescription for Oxycontin 40, quantity 150.

HEY THE SAME EXACT THING JUST HAPPENED TO ME. I FILLED EVERYTHING IN FEBRUARY. AND NOW IN MARCH, THEY FILLED MY LONG TERM; BUT THEY WOULDN'T FILL MY SHORT TERM. I WAS BORN WITH A DEBILITATING DISEASE. IT GETS WORSE AS I GET OLDER. THIS MEDICATION HAS HELPED ME IN MANY WAYS AND I KNOW YOU CANNOT STOP TAKING THEM ABRUPTLY. WHAT ABOUT THOSE GUIDELINES? I SUFFER FROM SEVERE PAIN. AND SWIMMING, PT AND PAIN MANAGEMENT HAS HELPED ME. NOW, ALL OF A SUDDEN THEY WON'T FILL THEM. I FEEL STEREO-TYPED. I SHOULD ALWAYS BE ABLE TO GET THE MEDS MY DOCTOR PRESCRIBES TO ME. HE IS A VERY REPUTABLE ONE. GOOD LUCK TO YOU. I DON'T THINK THIS IS FAIR TO PEOPLE. NO WARNINGS OR NOTHING. THEY JUSY WON'T FILL, FOR NO REASON.

Davao, Walgreens has started verifying with your Pain Management doctor on every pain med prescription that is written. They are the only pharmacy that I know of that are taking extra steps to make sure that the prescriptions are legitimate ones written by your doctor. This started on Jan. 1st of this year.

WTF are these people DEA I assume, to regulate what someone needs, I am a chonic pain patient and hate living like this taking damaging drugs, but I need them or ill either end it, or move to a state with some cheap black tar. What are we suppossed to freakeN do? A drug addict which I was for a very long time;can get help without being sucked into a GOVERNMENT RUN METHADONE program, which lets you go as high yeh as high as you want! This is socialist at work the great OZ behind the curtain. We need to all get on ER's then.

Old.post, but its.not the DEA or law enforcement causing the pharmacies to not full legal and properly administered medications. It is.specifically Walgreen's. There was an issue of two pharmacists in the Lakelland,Florida area who were writing and filling fraudulant Rx for oxycodone,to the numbers of 40,000/per month! Yes,the DEA prosecuted them.and fined Walgreen $180,000, but did not ban the store from filling any type.of.meds,opioid or whatever. It is a total over-reaction by Walgreen's to the situation. The DEA is not "watching" them,or have agents in the trees outside.
It is entirely Walgreen.

Re: Verwon (# 2) Expand Referenced Message

Wow, is the good ole USA ever comeing up with allot of changes, patients are going to be running into withdrawal problems, this is nothing that can be taken lightly, them withdrawals are dangerous, it turns good people into liers , thieves, etc, good parents will fall apart, the kids could go hungry, it’s a sad situation, it’s too bad when good people are treated like criminals because it’s the criminals who make it hard on everyone, now your government is trying to stop all these criminals but all there doing is hurting the honest people, I live in Canada, we already are going through this,
