Hydrocodone Tolerance

My orthopedic surgeon prescribed hydrocone-acetominophen 7.5/325 after my knee replacement surgery a month ago. Since I am taking levothyroxine, I had a bad reaction to the surgery--I think it was the anesthesia--and couldn't hold any food down for two days. But now, I'm finding that I'm getting desensitized to the hydrocodone and the 3X a day that the doctor prescribed for it isn't enough, and I am in pain after a few hours, and the amount of time I am pain free gets less and less with every passing day. I have started taking the hydrocodone every six hours (4X daily) and even that is not enough to control the pain. What should I do?

It would be best to inform your doctor, because you may need to try a different medication, or you may need to switch to the 10/325mg dosage of this one.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.
