Hydroco Apap 10 500 Mg

Updated

Is this legal to cut the medication down this much at one time?
I have been on 6 10/500 mg hydrocodone/Lortab for well over a year now for fibromyalgia, scoliosis, arthritis, bulging disc, bone spurs, etc. The clinic dr. decided that he prefers the patients there (all/any that take more than 4) be cut down by 2 a day, now making it 4 daily. Shouldn't he lower the dose slowly just as he slowly raised the dose? There has been no substitute given. I already take ibuprofen too. Now I'm feeling more pain and I HAVE TO WORK. Is this legal? Morale? Is there anything I can do about this? Please help. I live in Indiana

I know how you feel, but unfortunatly the DEA is breathing down doctors necks because of the very few that are running pill mills. I am not a doctor or a lawyer, but I will just give you a few suggestions that may help. What gets me upset here, is your doctor has had you on vicodin for over a year and he/she IMO is cutting your dose down too low and too fast. I don't think that what you were prescribed was an exessive amount, . Your doctor is doing nothing illegal, but I think it is unethical to do this. I would have a talk with your doctor and ask why the sudden dose change, and don't let him/her tell you a BS story. I have some of the pain issues that you have and I know that they are unbearable at times, so why the decrease in your dose is something you need to address ASAP..If you are unhappy with your treatment, you need to find another doctor..You have a right as a patient to have your chronic pain taken care of..The problem is there isn't anything you can do to make him/her keep you on your current dose..I wish I could help you more, but the best I can do is just give my support..Let us know how it goes....

And Pat is correct, your doctor is doing nothing illegal.

They are not obligated to treat you or prescribe you any medications, whatsoever and they can stop treating you and stop prescribing anything, at any time they choose.

The only time a doctor is required, by law, to treat anyone is if they are in life threatening danger.

However, as Pat has also stated, you should ask them for some answers.

Thank you both, Pat and Vernon for your replies to my questions. The only reason given was the head doctor may have went to some seminar or something and ALL were being drug tested (which mine was clean/normal) and dose cut to the limit of 4 per day. I understand about the pill mills and such. I have had over a year of physical therapy for my conditions and with no medical insurance makes my choices very limited.
I do want to thank you again for the replies.

I have been taking hydrocod/apap10/500mg for years and I am trying to get off of it.I have been taking 5 pills a day for severe neck pain. Please help me. I have been off of it for 1 day and I am feeling horrible. How much longer will this last? Would it help if I go to a emergency room and maybe get a shot? What do you recommend.

My doctor has been prescribing me hydrocodone/acetaminophen for many years for my RA with no problems. I went to see him in January and he wrote me 2 scripts. He told me my next visit he was going to have me take a U/A and if I had nicotine in my system he could no longer refill them. He said it was against the law now and he had to evaluate me and I'd better have hydrocodone in my system. He gave me nicotine patches. So if I go back and take his U/A won't nicotine come up from the patches and the gum I've been using? I live in Missouri and have had a pharmacist and a few nurses tell me that they have not heard anything about this.

Lisa, there are no laws that state if you have nicotine in your system that a dr can't prescribe pain meds. But if your dr doesn't want to prescribe you pain meds unless you stop smoking, that is his choice. There also are no laws that say that a dr can't prescribe pain meds if a patient does not have the pain med in their system. BUT, it is recommended that if a patient does not have a pain med in their system that they dr may want to stop prescribing it because the patient may not be taking it as prescribed or may be selling it. Often drs say that there are laws because the patients don't get mad at the dr.
