How To Get Off Suboxone (Page 36)

Updated

Im Marina Im 24 years old and a mother of 2 beautiul little boys. From the years 2006-2007 i was heavily addicted to Oxy 80 and eventually started doing herion. I got help in sep.2007 at a methadone clinic, it worked for as long as i was on the methadone i had NO relapse's. In June 2009 i was completly off of the methadone that first day that i was on 0Mgs I went through extreme withdrawls i went through things that i would never wish upon my worst enemy! i stayed that way for a day and a half and decided to go to a suboxone doctor. He put me on 32 mgs a day which i thought was pretty high of a dose but he explained to me that methadone withdrawls was worst then any other withdrawls. so i trusted him. Now when i go to see him every month i pretty much beg for him to start the weining process and start lowering me and he pretty much refuses. After months of being on 32mgs a day he finally started tapering me down slowly, i never really thought any thing of it till now but i realized he's keeping me on the suboxne for as long as posible so that he can get my $200.00 a month. all he is, is a legal drug dealer bc now im highly addicted to the suboxone. I recently had to go a few days with out my suboxone bc i didnt have the money to see him and i went through hell. i thought methadone withdrawl was bad OMG there is no comparison. i wanted to either use which i havent done in years or rip my face off lol its funny now but it definatley wasnt funny a few days ago while i was feeling that way! So i spoke to a good friend whos going through the same thing and he told me that they just came out with a new pill to get you off suboxone. I just want to know if that's true. I tryed googleing it but i cant find any thing. If you have heard of this new pill please respond or if you even have a good way to get off soboxone as painless and posible... thanx

sprinkle every one is different but I was on it for a year or longer, and started off on very high dose such as 2 8strips a day. and throughout months I tapered down and it wasn't horrible doing that at a slow pace but after the year past by I found the biggest struggle was comming off the lowest doses such as 1mg or less. but yes the very worse was comming off totally. at the end of my tapper I was comming off just .5mg which might sound crazy to some ppl who weren't on it long but I struggled so hard just to make the jump from that to nothing. I mean prior to the year or year in a half I was on it obv. I had an opiate problem which may have made the whole thing harder just being dependent on something that makes your body physically sick for so long which was 3 years. the 3 years meaning being on the opiates for 2 years and the suboxone for 1. but if u can give me a little on your background I could probably be more help because ive had to do this twice and you don't wanna go back bc it was much worse the 2nd time! sry if this dnt help much I was just trying to make this short not knowing your situation

Hi Slate, I've been taking taking the subs now for just close to 2 years. I got injured at work and went to the pain clinic, epidurals, facet blocks and I'm not talking 1 or 2. They never helped me. The dr. had me on morphine, vic ex's, and soma. He got upset with me one day and told me not to come back, just like that. Well I got the ones filled that he gave me which was 3 strips a day, U bever took 3, I took 1 or 1 1/2. Now I started cutting them in 4 pieces and take 1 piece in the morning. Is that too much, not enough, I want off these so bad but I just can't do it. You seem to know what's going on. Your advice sounded really good and that you know what you're talking about. The only problem is getting the info, you can't put your e mail address of phone no on here. Do you know how to get that done? Any info you can give me will be greatly appreciated. Thank you Slate.

Kris, Im guessing you have the 8mg strips? but ya I would say its enough if it helps you with pain. its probably the right amount for you to be taking it sound like though. But for getting off them which can be very hard. I would suggest you cut a strip into five pieces and try that for atleast a week or so. If you have no struggle doing that cut it into 6 pieces for the next week. Then seven and so on... I only say that because for some people it can be very hard. don't rush it if its really hard but honestly the lowest dose you can get yourself on the easier it will be to completely stop. It might sound crazy but I was eventually cutting mine until you couldn't cut it anymore before I stopped completely. But I guess over time see if you can gradually get yourself down to 1mg or less before coming off. Or if you go see your doctor ask him to lower you to the 2mg strips because they do have lower doses

Don't worry yourself forever though Kris. It really is hard I thought I was going to be stuck on them forever, your not alone. Some people may tell you its easy to get off that s***. But no for me it was horrible. I couldn't go a day without it or I couldn't get up id be yawning and sneezing and just felt like I was physically ill. But if you can really take your time and taper down as much as possible. Hang in there because it does get better. but it does take time sadly.

suboxone! I can help you with that one. First of all, I have been to 3 different suboxone doctors over 3 years. All of them tell me that 24mg (3 pills) is the largest dose anyone can take because it wont work any better once you go up from 24 mg!!!! So 24 and 32 and 50 and 100 would give you the same result. And yes, at that high dose you want to start weaning(titrating off) after 2 weeks maximum. I had a detox nurse tell me that originally suboxone and subutex(its generic cousin) was made for a 12 week program. 16 weeks is max only in very "unusual cases." So normal detox would look something like week 1-24mg and keep titrating down 2mg at a time till you get to 16 and then you can decide if you want to titrate down 1 or 2 mg a week. I even know people who are so hooked on suboxone that when they get below 8 mg, they can only titrate down 1 mg at a time. AND SOME PEOPLE ONCE THEY ARE AT 4 MG CAN ONLY TAKE GOING DOWN 1/2 MG PER WEEK.

Anything longer than that is a scam doctor or someone who slept thru suboxone cert. class! I would recommend going to a rehab if you cant get below 8mg on your own. Me? My doc started me on 16mg after 3 yrs of opiate use and I was able to get down to 8mg in 2 weeks as it was way too hi a dstarting dose for me. But I have been stuck at 8mg and get so depressed I cant take it. Even at 6mg I see a big difference. If I cant get below 6 in another week, its rehab time. Often suboxone is used to get you ready for rehab so you dont suffer as much. I studied this to dfeath for 3 yrs...so I know. And yeah.most suboxone docs cant be trusted. They either want you to get off too fast or too slow. Im going for accupuncture with herbs treatment and i see its making a difference AND WILL help me get off the subs much easier. But dont be afraid to go right into a rehab if you go 3 weeks and cant go any lower on your dose. As long as you can keep going lower each week, youll be fine. But you must after a few weeks be going down every 2 weeks, much better is every week. I hope this has helped. Also your brain is influenced by what you eat....yuh think? Take as much omega 3 products and fish as you can handle. Ever notice people who eat a lot of fish every day are happier than meat eaters. Problem is the mercury if you dont knbow where the fish comes from. Look up "niacin and suboxone therapy" niacin and depression therapy" . I also hear that if you have the 6 ggrand you can go to costa rica and they have a plant that will get you off everything in one week. And I emailed over 15 people who did it successfully. 1/2 never go back. 1/2 say it lasts only 3-6 months before cravings come back. Either way its a great deal. I wish I had the 6k. I am also going to start experimenting with brainwave technologies as to me weaning off any drug or alcohol is for the stone ages. Im trying Holosync meditation cd's and fisher-wallace electronic stimulation therapy. Let us know how you do. Remember, your doctor is just your "advisor." You have to look at all the different therapies out there and pick whats right for you. No one way is right for anyone. And if you DO go into a rehab, I am hearing from a detox nurse that 60 days is the minimum to really have better than a 50/50 chance top stay clean. My research backs her up. If you cant afford it see what the state can do for you...especially if you tell them you are suicidal.

Slate, thanks for all the information. It's just so hard and I feel like I'll never get off. I'm going to try what you said cutting them in smaller pieces and see how I tolerate it. I hate that sneezing too and I always get the sick stomach. I am very nervous, have ocd and everything makes me a wreck. I hate that this stuff has so much control over me. I like to be in control and I'm not. Well, I'll try what you said and I'll keep you posted. Again, thank you so much for taking your time to write back to me.

would like your method for tapering off suboxone

Was this helpful? 0

I haven't found the proper information anywhere online so here it is. Subutex/suboxone has a binding affinity of 75% at 2mg. Anymore medication than this amount does not have much value. Tapering to 2mg/day is easy, but you should taper slowly at your own pace. Getting from 2mg to Zero is the tricky part and here's how to do it.

Take your dosage every 24 hours as follows (each number is one 24-hour period and numbers are in milligrams):

2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 2, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 2, 1.5, 2, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1.5, 1, 1.5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 1, 0.5, 1, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0, 0.25, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25, 0.5, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25, 0.5, 0.5, 0.25, 0.5, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0.25, 0, 0.25, 0, 0, 0.25, 0, 0, 0, 0.25, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0.25, ZERO

This method is medically proven to work and I did it with no problem (only minor w/d symtoms and slight insomnia). Print out a calendar and mark each day with your correct dosage. This stream of numbers is difficult to look at (but you can see the pattern if you pay attention and write it on your own taper-calendar). You may take some of your dosage in the morning and some early afternoon. For instance, if you're on a 1.5mg day, take 1mg when you wake and 0.5mg mid-afternoon. Do not take this medication in the evening! Use it during your waking hours. If you work nights, take it in the evening and just after midnight. You will have mild insomnia, but will also have a clear head. Make use of your time if you cannot sleep. Exercise and diet make it even easier. This is the best way to taper off subutex/suboxone and live a normal life. I did it after years of opiate abuse and 1 year of subutex/suboxone usage. I cannot find this proper taper information anywhere. Hopefully this info finds you as it's the straight truth. Suboxone now comes in sublingual films which can but cut into correct dosage amounts. You cannot use 2mg pills to accurately taper down to zero. Get 2mg sublingual films from your doctor and explain this taper method if he hasn't already told you about it. I'm speaking from experience and I assure this will work. The reason for the new sublingual films is for proper tapering to ZERO. It takes time, but it's quite easy if done correctly. If you try to taper too fast, you will fool yourself. These drugs have long half-lives and you need to taper gradually to avoid discomfort. This advice will hopefully help you.

Also, one issue I find with addicts is they think they control their taper method and get overzealous. You must follow this correctly and not try and "go for it" on your own terms. Take your time and do it right! You will continue to get distance from the illegal world you were in and get your life straight. Use this medication to your advantage to get your life back. Also, you may be on higher doses when you switch over, but tapering to 2mg/day is easy due to binding affinity. If you're new to subs, take 4~8mg / day for a couple weeks before going to 2mg. This could be necessary and depends on how much illegal stuff you were using before going to subutex/suboxone treatment.

Best Wishes!!! -E

On Suboxone for 7 years now. I'm at .65mg a day at the moment. When I started 7 years ago I was at 8mg a day. Let me state that when I got on Suboxone, the Dr. told me it was not addicting. That is why I started it. This is a STRONG Medication!!!! Potent Medication!! Cutting down even 1/10th of a mg a week is tough. What is hell, is the "shelf life" of it. It remains in your body for so long. I'm tapering (and have been for 7 years.......) and I pray to God that I can get off of this DEVIL DRUG!!! Its taken almost a decade of quality in my life away already. I'll let you all know how it goes, but there isn't a miracle answer from what I can see. That is why I am slow tapering. Because I still have to work, and "do life". I wish you all the very best in finding your fix for this, but I think it's just cutting down whatever you are comfortable with. I'm a lightweight apparently, but I'm diligent. GodSpeed!!!

No worries, I just tapered off sub with success. Let me know your dose and I will set you up on a pain free taper schedule. Read my blogs starting 10 days ago. I will check in tonight. Do not believe the hype, you can get off suboxone and live drug free.

Tina taper down by 20% every 10 days and then jump off at .05. You should be fine. Get potassium, multivitamin, GABA calm and B12. Go to a health store to buy the supplements. Start taking them now so they can build up in your system. Also depending on what dose film or pill you have you might need a razor blade and tweezers when you have to start cutting your dose down lower and lower. Good luck and let me know if you have any questions. Don't let other peoples experiences scare you, lots of people get off subs but you have to taper.

I'm on a half but I've been having a lot of bad days lately and taken 1 or 2 extra 8s quit a bit. I started 2 years ago on 2 8s a day and tapered all the way down to 1 mg and was on that for like 4 months but was scared to jump. I felt as normal as I've felt in about ten year . Then the gurl I got with was on subutex and I started taking extra of hers now my dose is messed up. I have my first kid on the way and have to get my mind back to normal so I can take care of stuff with a level head. So pls any advice u could give I'd really appreciate

Riamont, first off all congrats on your child and the desire to get clean. Now the first thing is please go to your Dr and be honest. Everyone makes mistakes. Now start on the lowest dose that you and your Dr believe will keep you comfortable. Under your Dr's approval start your taper immediately. I tapered down every 10-14 days. The amount might only be 10% each time but the important thing is to continually reduce your dosage. I was able to jump off at about.05. twice daily. It's hard to say for sure because the slivers were so tiny not real sure. Most important ask God for strength. Good luck, you can do this!
