How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 52)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Dani...I agree. I have forgotten to take my Suboxone many times, 3mg. for 3 years. When I start to feel icky I think about Suboxone and check. It's usually 3 days I have missed. Dependant not Addicted. I'd be counting my 3x 80mg Oxycontin at week 1, and by week 4 be living on my 20mg x3, and an 80mg a day.

REBEKAH: I'm at month 25 and have learned one heck of a lot about my mind and body. Everything will be okay however another 23 months will really help with the brain/cns connection. I am so proud of you. Not many make it through but you did it. You could write a book. I recommend you take a very small dose of a mild benzo and resolve the anxiety issue. If you do not want a narcotic your family doctor may have a suggestion. After this trip you will never take another opiate.

Tommy c, thanks for all the advice and the timeline. I do feel like I could write a book, I'm sure I could, to be honest I should lol. I'm still working on my anxiety problem. But it's getting better.

Lisa: How is your husband doing? I don't know what they can do in 30 days because the malaise lasts so much longer. I know how bad he hurts and feels if he is still with the program. I hope he is. It takes love and support.

I was a terrible patient. My wife was an angel.

I think you stop to soon take 2mg every other day then 1mg then go every 2days so on no rush that low of a dose not going to hurt you

REBEKAH: The specialists at Henry Ford Medical Center told me to stay on the Valium. I have been taking 2mg/day for 30 years. They were beyond concerned and insistent I get back on the Valium. Therefore, no anxiety or panic etc.

The advise you have given to people is very good and safe. Not many people make it as far as we have. I only know of one other. Most people cannot afford to take 1 to 2 years off and on work. I have tried to help several people but it takes either living very close to them or they have to have a very understanding family who will communicate with me or someone like you. Several people call which is much easier. The doctors do not have a clue as to how bad this condition really is like. It is beyond explination. I thank God for my understanding family and forgiving wife. As hard as it is on me it has to be nearly as bad for her trying to make me comfortable. I was told it would take three years to get normal. I believe it and it is worth the suffering to get there.

Have a Happy Mother's Day!

I'm on the 8 mg suboxone films and I ran out a lil early. If I take a white suboxone pill, possibly a subutex, will I still have the withdrawal symptoms?

I am not a doctor and I can only tell you my experience I am on Suboxone for pain management because I was told by several sources including two doctors that there is no withdrawal from Suboxone. Then I started reading blogs and many peoples say the withdrawal are WORSE from Suboxone. I almost died when I came off opiates from two hip surgeries. Now I have bone on bone in my knee (it needs to be replaced soon) and back issues, as well as pain from five major surgeries on my hands. The Suboxone really doesn't help with my pain and I want to go back on opiates. Either way I promised myself I would rather go to ANY lengths to not experience withdrawal again. I am up to 12mg Suboxone a day. I don't know what exactly to tell you. I asked my Pharmacist and he said it took his friend a full year to wean down from 2mg/1mg Suboxone. I have made up my mind that I want back on opiates for a thirty day 15 mg timed released morphine and then go through the hell of 24 hour withdrawal from the morphine, use the Suboxone for withdrawal purposes only and then never take any of it again. I was hooked on street drugs for forty years and my worst day coming off them was better than my best five minutes coming off these opiates. I wish you luck. I know there are methods out there for withdrawal where you are put under anesthesia and they watch you closely for several days. It is expensive and you have to be in good physical health.

You should be proud of your mother for surviving the chemo and radiation My mother had base of tongue cancer and the radiation practically killed her. Stomach feeding tube for two years after that. Eventually could not get her pain meds through that system and she passed. She fought long and hard for four years after the cancer was found.

My Dr. has been trying Suboxone on me for the PAIN of SEVERE DAILY HEADACHES/MIGRAINES (NOT ADDICTION)
I'm on the 2nd month & I'm thinking that treating DAILY MIGRAINES it takes more meds (ANY pain meds) That being said both months it hasn't lasted the WHOLE month.
So what I am wondering is since I haven't been taking them every day of each month, will I have much/any withdrawal since I haven't been on it -- day after day -- month after month for years?? on end

Sheri,
Have you had an MRI to see if you had a pinched nerve in your cervical spine? A lot of migraines come from pinched/herniated discs in the neck that doctors miss.

Thanks Mee...I've had many MRI's. In fact, I've had these SEVERE headaches/migraines for 35 years, so I've been through every treatment -- medication -- procedure 2-3 times!! All I can do is medicate them.

not sure how old the post is but sub WD can go on up to 30 days+. Really matters if you exercise. Now with the elderly just give them whatever they want. Most will not be physically strong enough. I am so sorry but its what our country and the corporations want.
They want passive people through out the world that complain about nothing and if they do they'll take away the drug until they submit.

That's reality wake up people. Please I beg you...wake up.

Suboxzone manufacturers need to be sued. Between them and their 10hour training to physicians need to be held accountable for people who can't stop the medication. I myself was never given any information that I would suffer these dibeliating withdrawals. Is is a money making business because a sub doctor won't cash only and for me that was 275 first visit an 175 there after. It may help drug users to prevent overdoses of their drug but I just wanted to see if I could function without my 2 -3 dose of Narco which I was on through pain management. After 2 weeks I could not stop Suboxzone and at one point after stopping for 9 days I ended up in the ER still having withdrawals.

Skye: At 30 days withdrawals are just starting. I was on 8/2 for 5 yrs and weaned for 7 months. I have been off of all opiates for 27 months and still have Suboxone withdrawal issues. Where is your information coming from?

Actually, Tramadol is a synthetic opioid agonist with additional serotonergic effects. Both the opioid agonist binding to my receptors and some yet unknown serotonin mediated mechanism are responsible for pain control. Initially, when Tramadol was introduced in the U.S., it was under the brand name Ultram. Largely due to drug company pressure, the opioid aspect of the drug was downplayed. Then, Tramadol started being sold on the streets, mainly as a way to ease withdrawal symptoms from opioids. Next, doctors began receiving reports that withdrawal symptoms following drug cessation were intense and long-lasting. Finally, opioid abusers began taking Tramadol recreationally to get a "floaty" type of euphoria. States began classifying Tramadol as a controlled drug, usually at IV or V levels. It is now federally controlled. Despite early reports to the effect that Tramadol was not an opioid, it certainly is an opioid, with all of the attendant risks, plus the risk of seizures and serotonin syndrome. Withdrawal is often nasty.
