How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 9)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Day 25 got 7 hrs of sleep....AMAZING!! Energy is still low but coming back...cold chills are gone!! RLS is not but can fall asleep and stay asleep! Still sneezing not as much though...pretty much just have the sleep and lack of energy. I am kinda struggling mentally like wow ok so I don't feel high....hmmmm....what now! I think the lack of energy and motivation is fueling that though!!

I know what you mean about not being high and lack of energy. Just being straight after so long is hard to deal with, at least it was for me. This is the time where you gotta be real careful. You think, hmm.. Maybe I,ll take a couple pills but I won,t let it get out of hand. Ya right.. trust me, it won,t work.
The lack of energys a hard one, it will come back, just takes time. When you start feeling blah think about what you just went through. You really did good kicking those subs!

Jolter was not gonna reply today. Trying soo hard to stay positive! I'm having a bad day..not with WD just mental stuff. My husband told me last night he thinks I'm milking this cause of lack of energy! Told him to f off! I can see it wearing on everyone around me and that is wearing on me!! Is there anything to do for energy? That's not gonna freak me out? Anyways staying strong just wearing on my mind ya know!!

Ok...so had a rough morning but had a great day!! Had more energy today! I did take 4 imodium at 4pm. It truly helped A LOT I could not believe it! ! At 4pm my energy took a nose dive and thought I would give it a try!! WISH I would have taken sooner!! The thing says don't take more than 4 a day but just took 4 more hoping it will help me sleep...so far no RLS...anyway Jolter if you are reading was wondering if you have had any experience with it? Also if someone is reading this and ur trying to quit subs....GET SOME!!!!!

Can,t really think of anything for energy. It,s hard for anyone who hasn,t gone thru what you have to understand. Coming off pain pills is one thing but after being on subs and coming off them is very different. The lack of energy kicks your butt plus just being completely straight after so long takes some getting used to.
In the past when I came off subs I,d notice after a particulary hard physical day in work that when I got home I,d actually feel better then before I went to work.
I guess what I mean is excercise will help you start to feel normal. Slow at first of course.
I know ya feel like nobody understands and your right, they don,t.
I,ll ask around and see if theres some vitamin or something that can give you a boost. I just can,t think of anything myself.
Hang in there, the tough part is behind you for the most part.

Can,t say I know very much about immodium. Is that immodium AD? I have used it but followed directions. Do you think it gave you energy? I have read of people using it for wds. Not quite sure what it did besides help a little with diarea.

It is imodium ad and it did help!! Made me feel NO WD for about 2 hrs!! I heard people getting addicted to it!!! Which is crazy to me!! I have not had any today. I only have 4 and saving for tonight then won't take and see if RLS is truly gone or if it was just the imodium. I have had NO WD today except energy still down. SO I think I'm seriously almost over!! Do you think it's safe to say after 27 days?

Thank you so much for your honest appraisal of subs. I am tapering off after a little over a year. I have been doing as you suggest already . Meditating, yoga music praying for the day I can be free from this he'll of addiction. I don't want to regret taking them. In the long run it was right for me. I was beginning to become a total thief. Stealing pills from family and others. For years nearly 6. I was using 8 to 10 es vicodine or perks a day. It was awful. I burned myself with a heating pad never felt a thing. I'm down to 4mg every other day some days I skip. Oh God I pray help me to change this one day at a time thanks again.

Thanks cats you know this is not a race. I just want to feel ok. The other junk was turning me into someone I did not recognize. I'm glad to be on sub for now too been 1 year and I've come down to less then half from where I started so that's a blessing thank again for sharing. Alice

Alice you will one day be free!! So glad to hear you are tappering!! If I could give a little advice on that...I have read so many times where people tapper and they go through WD as they tapper...If you start feeling WD at that point I would jump off! The WD are not as intense as perc or vicodin WD they just last longer and that is what makes it hard mentally. Please prepare for that! You will be in my prayers!! This is a hard road but YOU CAN DO IT!! My energy is back and I feel soo ALIVE!! Carla

Alice one more thing..I would SCORE the Internet when I was really feeling bad and I would see people say I'm at day 25 or whatever and I would think HOLY COW..I'm only day 7 I'm never gonna make it, I'm never gonna be at day 25!! Lol...NOW...I'm one of those people!! And you can be too!! Be patient don't put expectations in ur mind just go one day at a time and before you know it you'll look back and go...WOW its been a month and I feel GREAT:))

Age makes a difference when withdrawing from Suboxone or any other opioid. I just got off Suboxone 6 weeks ago and did it cold turkey. I do not recommend doing this without being in a safe place with medical attention.. The symptoms will vary by the person. Because older people don't have the same metabolism and some other factors, withdrawal will often be much worse. I know this firsthand. I was a wreck. I could barely walk more than 10 steps without feeling I was going to drop. Some say the feeling internally is like the flu. Those people are lucky I guess. I felt like I could feel my individual organs swelling and the intensity was bad the first 2 weeks. The mental process is also affected. I couldn't think clearly for the first 3 or 4 weeks. I sympathize with your mother. Make sure she gets her Suboxone while she is sick. She can always do a taper in the future. I didn't do the taper because I just wanted to be done, even knowing it would be very painful. Let me put it this way. I've met H addicts in the rooms and most of them told me coming off Suboxone was worse and the time it took to feel better took longer than going cold turkey on H. Getting off Suboxone can feel like real hell.

Tom the post you are responding to is 2 yrs old. Was curious though as I quit suboxone cold turkey 4 wks ago...How are you doing now? Everything you described is what I wenttthrough. Still having a few issues sleeping so was just curious if ur at 100%. Thanks Carla

Hi Carla, thanks for asking. I'm doing very well now. It's been 8 weeks since I stopped. I'm taking Vivitrol as a precaution. This medication prevents cravings from alcohol and opiates. I think I'll stay on it for a few months. Being in Pharmaceuticals you think I would have thought through the idea of going on Suboxone, but I didn't. The Vivitrol by the way does not have any withdrawal side effects to speak of.

Tom thanks for responding. Glad to hear ur doing well! I will say suboxone is terrible to WD from. This Saturday will be 5 wks and still sneeze and sleeping is a pain! But I don't crave opioids or suboxone really just want to be 100% done. I went 3 days without RLS and have had it the last 2 nights...it's crazy!!
