How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 22)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I detoxed myself off 75 mgs methadone for 7 yrs. I got myself down to 5 mgs other than having no energy I was ok. I gave into a friend telling me to tk suboxone to help get my energy back. She promised to give me enough to not be sick till I gt into a dr. Well of course tht didn't happen. She stop helping me cold turkey after I paid for her drs appt. so my drs appt is Monday the 2nd but I've only been taking it for 2 weeks an only half of 8 mg strip sometimes whole strip a day. I was just wondering if I will still go thru wd fr the subs now or if I'll be ok till mon. If I'm ok I won't go Monday but just like to know what I'm in fr the next few days. I'm fairly a strong person but tend to gt depressed a lot lately.

If you've only been on them for 2 weeks you should be OK. You might have some WDs but it shouldn't be full blown. If you're that far along in your detox though, I would suggest staying away from subs altogether. By taking those, your just getting back into the same boat that you were in with the done. I've detoxes off of numerous opiates in my time and I can say that sub WDs is just as nasty as any, and it lasts MUCH longer. I'm not trying to preach or scare you. Just want you to know the truth about subs. A lot of people think of them as harmless compared to other opiates (I used to also) and that's just not the case. I was actually told by a DR that 2mgs of subs is equivalent to 50mgs of oxy. I had weened down to 1mg/day when I stopped and I went through all out WDs for nearly a month. It's a wolf in Sheeps clothing if you ask me.

I agree with u pit fan and I mean no offense to people using subs saying it changed their life's because it certainly changes your life as far as running all over the place for pills or whatever your vice may be. So free choice and a better option absolutely but unless you plan on taking it forever, the day will come when you have to face the with drawl. Hey also keep in mind, if you feel ok and don't go to your doctors apt, you could end up with the delayed W.D and be stuck. The two week titrate is milder but will linger for about a month. Good luck!

Suzy, DO NOT get on suboxone. I'm barely sleeping on sleeping medicine and on day 26. It is a long drawn out ordeal. Wish I would have known how addicting this medication is. I just can't wait to feel better. Sleep is the last thing to come back. Everything is is better. I'm hoping by day 30 I will start sleeping more.

Seratonin is actually not the major NT youre dealing with when it comes to Suboxone use. Opiates and the like give rise to the centers within your brain that process hedonic pleasures in the form of Dopamine. You are, however, right to raise your Serotonin levels because of a complex brain chemistry chain of events that occurs in response to stopping your drug of choice. You need to focus more on activities to get your Dopamine levels up and pump in those endorphins.

when you take a opiate and you're going through withdrawals you go through two withdraws exactly 14 days after the initial withdraw. That will last a few days.

I've been on subs for 2 years. I started in 3 strips and came down to 1mg. My last dose was 3 days ago. I don't feel any withdrawals or discomfort. Is it goin to hit me soon or am I in the clear

When I quit subs I jumped at 2mgs after 2.5 years of use and the WDs hit me pretty hard between the 36 - 48 hour mark, but I've also hear of some people not really getting them until day 3-4 so it's hard to say, but my guess is that if you're at day 3 and haven't felt anything that's a good sign. I'd think if you do feel anything (which unfortunately you probably will) it will hopefully be relatively mild and tolerable. How are you sleeping? For me the physical WDs weren't terrible but I had RLS like crazy and didn't sleep well at all. Aside from that and lack of energy I was able to function fairly normally. Eating good and staying active is the key to staying ahead of WDs and minimizing the duration.

I would expect something but it seems to be going in your favor so far. Subs are a weird drug. I stopped them cold turkey at 8mgs about 6 years ago and felt little to no WDs, then stupidly relapsed on painkillers after surgery and went back on subs. When I quit the 2nd time it was pretty bad. And for me they would come and go randomly. I would feel fine for a few days then BAM, full on WDs for a few days, then start feeling better, then they'd come back again and it went on like this for about 3 weeks before I finally started feeling better consistently. And still had PAWS for another 3-4 weeks after that. PAWS wasn't bad though. More of a mental chess match and staying positive than anything. But like I said, 3 days in with no WDs, you may have dodged a bullet.

Slinky, I promise you will about 8 days after. I was on 2-3 a day for about same time as you and for about 6 months I cut to 2mg eventually to 1mg for about 3 months and let me tell you I might as well been on 2 strips up until I quit because my withdrawals were the same as what others say that has not weined off. Like other people testify to, I also seen the light of day at 4 weeks, finally felt somewhat normal. 1mg piece is so unbelievably powerful it amazes me! Symboxone is a wicked drug. At the time of using I thought I was so much better off than doing pain pills...but the pain pills (oxycodonr) were mild compared to symboxone. I wish I would have never been told about it!

Deedee you are so correct!!! Sleep and restless legs and fatigue are horrible! It's been 40 days since my last tiny tiny piece of symboxone and I still can't sleep through the night. I try to not take ye neurontin I have because I don't want to get on some ither addicting drug. But some nights I have too because rls is so bad!

Yup suboxone is an insanely powerful pain med. it's so deceiving. A lot of people don't believe. I think it should only be used in cases of severe drug addiction. My Dr advised me to go on it because I was having trouble getting off of tramadol. Had I known what I was getting myself into I would've just gone CT from the tram and dealt with it. Instead I ended up on subs for 3 years at WAAAY too high of a dose. Basically I went from 4 tramadol a day to 16mgs of subs a day, which unknowing to me is equivalent to like 20 tram a day! I realized how powerful it was when I had my wisdom teeth out last year. I was down to 2mgs a day of subs and stopped taking them so I could take the vicodin that my dentist prescribed me and I went through terrible WDs even though I was taking 6-8 vicodin ES throughout the day. I actually stopped the vicodin and went back on the subs and dealt with the pain because I was WDing so bad from it. That's when I decided to quit. My sub Dr told me at 2 mgs a day I would have mild WDs for about 3 days then be good as new and most of it was in my head. Yeah right! I went through intense WDs for nearly 3 weeks before they subsided and it was almost 3 months before PAWS started to let up. Suboxone is a wolf in Sheeps clothing and I advise anybody that is thinking of getting on it to research the hell out of it first because at least for me, it was a lot worse of an addiction than what I had in the first place! I wish somebody had told me that then but the Dr saw dollar signs and roped me in...

Its funny how I mind lets us cope with things . I do the same thing as long as I have subs in my pocket I can go without them

Frame of mind is the MOST important part of dealing with WDs and overcoming addiction. The first time I was on subs and stopped I didn't even know it could cause WDs. I had no idea it was an opiate. So when I stopped, and felt crappy I thought it was stress, or something else and I just pushed on without giving it much thought. It was the most painless experience with WDs I've ever had. The next time I stopped subs I read all if the forums about sub wd before hand and I had a terrible time with exaggerated wd symptoms. I couldn't function for days/weeks. Looking back on the 1st time, I was WDing I just didnt know it and went about my daily life and didn't miss a beat. I actually stayed clean for 2.5 years before stupidly relapsing. Keep this in mind if you're experiencing it. The less attention you give to it, the less it will affect you. I know that's easier said than done, but it IS possible.

There is no doubt your mind cause wds to be more intense than they have to be. Now when I say this it does not mean wds aren't real. Believe me if I had to go through them again I think I would exit out . It is when you get low or run out you start getting stressed and start to panic. That causes your nerves to kick in makes the wds way more intense

Exactly true. I had a friend years ago who took lots of oxycodone when she had it, and then would run out after months and months of taking it and although she would try to get more, she would sometimes be able to go a week to ten days before she could get her script. She would talk about being in so much pain and how it was going to be hard not having it for a while but I soon realized she had no clue about withdrawal, which took away the " panic" (just like you said ) that is the true meaning of " ignorance is bliss" I know she didn't feel great but she could handle it. Pretty amazing how the mind works.

Yup. I knew somebody like that too. I think I could handle the physical symptoms of WDs pretty easily if it weren't for the emotional side (depression etc). I once stopped taking Oxy's cold turkey and had an old prescription of adderall and I took some to combat the lethargy of WDs and again, it was easier to function. I had energy and was in a pretty decent mood, so I didn't care about the aches, diahhrea, headache, sneezing and temp fluctuations. I WOULD NOT recommend this route though because you run the risk of just switching one habit for one even nastier habit. I was sensible with it because I never really like adderall much, hence the old prescription in my med cabinet.
