How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 21)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Pit fan, you are right on! I was talking about the Imodium and therefore didn't want to confuse it with my opinion on the gabapentin but yes absolutely all of you that are fortunate enough to have the nuerontin ( gabapentin ) that in of itself is a god send in the process of withdrawal. Unfortuneatley it does at times just like wit Imodium take high doses. You have to way out the pros and cons for yourself. As far as constipation only you know if it's a fair trade off for sleep because eventually the diarreha that co eo's with withdrawal will over power the use of it. I'm always thinking of all of you ! The suffering you are all willing to endure to get your life's back is commendable

Don't be fooled by the power of suboxone build up on your receptors, I am a 16 year user or daily H sometimes up to 5 grams every 48 hours,, I have tried many things to become clean including ongoing naltexone implants that have kept me free from full blown opiate addiction. In 2010 i went back to jail for a year where I would usually carry out my addiction and decided I was getting to old , even no I was only going on and can remember having a physical addiction before I could shave, I managed to do it,, I completed my parole term and worked a full time job that helped me increase natural dopamine in my brain,, in 2012 I feel again back into benzodiapine use And daily suboxone abuse peaking at 32daily. it has taken me nearly a full year to drop from 32daily to 8 every second day and now I have taken a different stater ie by fillin my multi receptors twice a week with around 16-24twice a week it's not a great approach but it the only way I no how,, every time i get down to eight every 3 or 4 days my body mental health and stability drop rapidly,, I have no kids and keep my responsibilities to a high level so that when I look in the mirror I can see the positive, u may call me a so called functioning addict but the last grasp of the suboxone is the worst. if u have an associated depressive state then it just rebounds from one to the other and the thoughts and urges can become overpowering ,,,, don't be fooled by your doctor telling you suboxone is some f***ing wonder drug that will see you better. it's bite is just as bad as any opiate and be sure that you prepare yourself if you want to come off it.

Thanks omg mama , I do want my life back and hope I'm almost there! I've lost almost 10 years in a fog being on pain pills. I wasn't the type to be slurring my speech or slobbering, most didn't even know I was using . But, looking back I've ruined my life! They took all the emotion I needed to have the correct skills to raise my family. The guilt is overwhelming but have to move on from here! I am thankful I can be the mom/grandma that my kids need in there life NOW :) it has been so nice hearing others on here that have had the same experiences. It helped me so much!

I gave up and got the Ambien. I've lost 10 pounds and haven't slept. I tried to wait it out but insomnia is the last symptom of sub withdrawal, at least for me. I'm on day 21. I just wish I could have made it to day 30 without taking sleeping pills. I gave it a really good try but being stubborn was not going to get me any sleep.

The Imodium won't really cause bad constipation like most think. It's an opiate and works on the opiate receptors in your GI tract. Just like pain killers will make most people constipated. But for those of us with a history of opiate use, your body is used to it. If anything it will just help regulate you. As for it stopping WDs though, I've read many posts from people claiming it helped but it did nothing for me. At the height of my WDS I took 12 pills at once I got VERY little relief if any, and my RLS seemed to be even worse that night. It might work for some though. Some people swear by it. It just didnt work for me. Vitamin B, gabapentin, Advil and chamomile tea was my medicine kit for a month. Also, a little bit of icy hot (and this sounds weird) on my feet. It helped loosen up my feet and ankles and have me a little "pep" in my step for breif periods. Also, the mint smell is supposedly helps release dopamine and helps with energy and mood. As I said, I know it sounds weird but every little thing helps!

deedee please be careful with the. ambien. .although ambien is a great sleeper it has extreme side effects and is very easy to od on. it can cause extreme amnesia. I was on it and loved it but I had severe amnesia with it. I drove and didn't know it, I would get up in the middle of the night and cook full meals and have no recall of it other than finding a mess in the kitchen and all the food in the morning. I didn't remember a thing. I would also go shopping at night and go thru the drive thru and not know it, finding the bags and wrappers in the morning. you can overdose because you cant remember if you took it so you take another one and another one and another one. this causes a decrease in your breathing and then death. I personally have know several people who have od and are no longer with us. so please be careful.

Thank you for the warning. I only got 10 days worth so I wont be on it very long. I have heard a lot of crazy stories about Ambien. Not sure why my doctor prescribed it other than it is supposed to be used for severe insomnia 14 days or less. I will post tomorrow how I slept. I am just so excited to go to sleep....this is crazy

Absolutely Dee, what Karen said is so true. I knew you needed sleep badly and hope this helps but keep in mind what Karen said. You don't want to take ambien and then try and stay up till you feel sleepy, or you may find yourself sleep walking and all that dangerous forgetting behavior. You need to take it and then go straight to bed. Good luck and sweet dreams :)

Please talk to doc first but the dose can go up to 10. There are 5mg as well,as 10mg I believe anything higher isn't recomended and does not work any better. It's good you at least got a couple hrs, hopefully tonight you will do better. Keep us posted and hang in there sweetie, it's gonna get better.

Thanks, I will try again. The good news is all my other symptoms are gone except a little restless legs occasionally. I take the clonidine and it goes away within about 30-45 mins.

Slept about 4 hours with sleeping med. Rls almost gone, took 1 clonidine late afternoon. Still not hungry. I think if I was sleeping every night I would feel normal. No depression or anything else related to PAWS. Just need more sleep!

I totally relate the difference I was addicted to herion.I had to go through methadone treatment my dose was at 240 than I had to move and the state had different rules so they dropped me to 180mg I had a big obstacle that jeopardizing me being able to have access so cold turkey the pain no words could describe how horrific it was I received a letter from a I looked down expecting more bad news OMG I looked at the senders name and honestly top 5 most exciting life experiences I shared with him. I called by chance he was in town and that phone call changed forever. We now have a beautiful daughter I relapsed after having my daughter because of the doctor's keep refilling and refilling oxygen yes of coarse I called and ask but they new my history and still they would call them in. Well then the lying started lack of respect always pissy I even stole from him to the man that change my life for the better.I broke down told him I needed rehab checked that out way to expensive so I got on suboxone 2 daily I am winging get myself off i am terrified been on it two and half years any suggestions on good way to decrease

So proud of you, you should be too. I think you will continue to feel better with each day that passes. I know you still need some consistent sleep, but you have come such a long way, and now you can pay it forward
