How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 17)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

I feel sorry for anybody that has to go through the withdrawal. As I mentioned in a previous chat I weaned off it twice (twice the dummy). I went to an expert addition specialist who convinced me to try a 10% withdrawal each month. I know this will take a long time for many people but it does work. I did it the second time and got down 1/8 mg and still had some symptoms but nothing like I did going cold turkey the first time and wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy on 24 mg per day. That was hell and didn't sleep for 6 days or eat for 3 weeks. I couldn't move or make the effort to take a shower. Once you're off it's not always home free. There is a condition called PAWS post acute withdrawal syndrome. This can last from a few weeks to six months depending on the person. The symptoms are similar to withdrawal. Restless leg, night sweats, flu like etc. they do go a away and don't present everyday. Some people never get them. From talking in the rooms it seems the younger you are the more you can deal with it. It helps to take hot showers often during the day and at night. Someone mentioned going back on the opiate. That is not a bad idea and will soon be in the AMA guidelines from what I'm hearing. In that case the person goes back on the opiate for at least a month to 6 weeks. This gives the Suboxone the time to leave the body. Wean down if possible and bear the several days to a week of feeling crapy, nothing close to the Suboxone withdrawal. I hope people find the hope and courage to do this for themselves and be in a safe place to do it where you're not going to drink or take other drugs to aid the withdrawal. Clonedine is a weak drug that can take a little of the pain away but frankly I didn't see the value of it. My prayers are with you all. Anyone who does this has to apt themselves on the back for being courageous.

No one should ever go back down the rabbit hole to get off sub.....it's why we took sub. In the first place. The AMA is a bunch of greedy doctors making money off the DRUGS they dish out. Find a doc. That treats you right and not just their pocket book and you'll have an honest doctor. Someone trying to help their fellow man. As a whole (America) we consume 75% of all pills in the world.....think about that

I swear I need to quite looking up some of this negative energy on these forums! I was put on subs a year ago and the doc thought it was kool to let me have 16-20MG A DAY for a year and im 27 120Lbs ntways i didnt realize how harmful it was because i was always tired i had to but like three red bulls a day......yea not so healthy ntways i decided to quite cold turkey and today is day 8 and im not gonna lie i havnt wanted to do nutin but i havnt lost my appetite that much....I quess im trying to say if u stay postive eat healthy which sucks lol and stay active ( I have no problem doing cuz i have a hyper Two year old) and take sum clonidine and keep telling ur self it will get better cuz it will!!! So I really hate when someone says cold turkey is bound to fail i refuse to believe it also i have God and thats what really matters so whoever is dealing with w/d right now stick it out be strong u can do it because if I can yall can ;) oh and try not to think bout it take ur mind to better things things that truly make u happy!!!!

Meagan I agree with you. I quit cold turkey off taking 16-20 grams a day! Without any meds on 3/31 6 months later happier than ever!! It was hell!! I asked God many times to make it stop but I needed to go through it so I don't go back! Stay strong and you can do this!!

It has been 11 weeks since I last took a sub and the doc was prescribing me 24mg per day for 5 years and I stopped taking them for two days then I started taking pain pills again for three weeks, then I went back to taking 2mg sub once per day for about two weeks or less than but then jumped cold turkey and I know everyone is different but I literally had minor WD symptoms for only about a week and i tried jumping cold turkey on 24mg per day and it was too much for myself to handle. So if u don't think u can do it cold turkey on your own here's a shortcut that helped me and by the way I feel great, so god bless anyone trying to better their lives bc suboxone is not something anyone should take for more than a month much less years

Hello ive been on suboxone for 6 years. this october i want to quit with every fiber of my being i want to be a better father and husband. My problem is i cannot stick to a taper plan i always mess up and go back to the higher dose (8mg daily) i have an extremely addictive personality and that plays a large part in not tapering
so im not sure how the hell im gonna stop.any one has a suggestion

I was in the same situation. Tapering did not work so I stopped cold turkey. I know not everyone can have time to recover so I have heard kratom helps but be careful this can be addicting also!

Better late than never. As you posted this alon time ago but I agree with you, God has nothing to do with it! Your faith? Yes maybe true it takes faith however, if praying to God was enough no body would be suffering. That's like when two houses get hit by a tornado right next store to one another, one family losses everything and one survives and then says " God saved them" we prayed! fact maybe the two family's prayed together when they saw it comming, so then God only saved the family that was, what? Praying louder? Pretty arrogant and ignorant if you ask me. Not saying don't have faith, we can have faith hope for the best prepare for the worst, absolutely ok to seek for spiritual enlightening, but you cannot put it all on " God" without then including the tragitys and suffering as well.

Wow! Sorry everybody that seems so out of context because I was on the wrong page way at the beginning commenting to something someone had said on here a long time ago. I'm new here and my posts on this forum are all way at the beginning of this subject from over a year ago and I can't figure out why. Please scroll up to my posts or search my profile. I have been keeping a journel of my experience from years of tapering off morphine and now doing the " less than 10 day taper with suboxone starting with 8mg, 1st 24 hr to 6mg next day to 4mg next day and now on 2 holding ok for 36 hr then to 1 mg at present planing to stop one more day At .5 check it out it may be helpful. I also posted how I tapered the morphine to 15mg IR per day held at that in slight withdrawl for a week untill on the 7 th day after only 10 hrs from last 15mg my withdrawals were just getting unbearable started the suboxone.

Hey nette this Friday will be 3 weeks that I stopped subutex I feel good except for anxiety and insomnia I have been on Xanax for 7 years and I'm not taking them like I used to I can't say for sure but I think the anxiety problem is due to my lack of Barz the first week is he'll then during the 2nd week you might have a bad day try to walk and keep positive it got better for me when I hit the 2 week mark I have also been stressed out the whole time my girl has not been there so if you have good support it there is a good chance you will feel better even sooner than I did best of luck you can do this !!!!

My journey went smoother than most I believe, because like you said, I only used it for 5 days, starting at 6 mg till down to 1mg and off. I would say for sure people making the jump off, need to be at a very low dose before cold turkey stop, and have also seen success with skipping days. I wanted to comment about the xanax. Actually this would apply to all benzo's. I'm not a doctor but I know from experience and some is just fact. Whether Titrating or stoping suboxone (or any opiate for that matter)cold turkey, getting a script for xanax or Valium can be the difference between making or breaking it. As you can read on the first post from James anout his mother and many others on these message boards, the Linguring anxiety insomnia and even restless legs can sometimes be managed using these types of prescriptions. In fact I just saw a u tube video from a detox clinic that speaks about how useful they can be and how they are used often along with Ambien or other sleeping aides( under doctor care) very successfully. Something you said izzy, I also wanted to comment on. If someone takes benzo's daily for even a month, or like you up for years, the withdrawl will include twitching, restless legs, even involuntary full blown kicking, body and or arms jerking and eye twitches just to name a few. This is uncomfortable for anyone but in your case I'm sure it's adding to your discomfort emensley. I know these meds can also be addictive and/ or abused and I certainly do not recommend over use, but they can certainly help you through this and are much easier to taper from later. Good luck all

I understand that was years ago when you were introduced to the Percocet that got you hooked? So know because of that you are on subs is it strips or pills? I'm going to be honest I'm not going to type another long post at this time, but I want to help anybody I can, because coming off any of this crap is very hard. I have posted for a week on this site and kept a journal going for everyone to see how I did it and what I did. I was successful, and know how to titrate off pretty comfortably. That being said, I felt alone as not one person responded to me here. You can do a search at the top of this page in " key words" just enter 2014 omgmomma suboxone morphine. It should take you to my posts so you can see how I did it. Then if you reply and need more help I will respond. Good luck

P.s people don't realize that it not the opiates in the pain pills that take your tooth pain away it's the NSAID that calms the inflammation and then the antibiotic that takes away more inflammation and infection pain. The opiate just makes you not care about the pain because of the euphoria and false sense of well being ,hence the addiction

Izz Well as for the highly addictive personality. I know all bout that my dad died an addict and my mom is too. I just hope I can do this izz and its so hard to explain to my boyfriend because he doesnt know what its like to kick opiates and im gonna have to do this in front of him and he gets mad because I have no energy its like I wish I could show him just one day how this feels and he wouldn't be able to handle it. But thank u so much for the encouragement it means alot to have so many people understand. Ive been watching videos on people s days and the not sleeping part is so s***ty I did that when I kicked dope and it took me so long for it to be over and I also got sick my immune system shut down I just hope I dont go through tht again I wish I never did this to myself and I wish I knew suboxone was bad long term
