How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 16)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Valerian root and ashwaganda root helped me alot with mood...nothing helped with chills except a bath...take a hot Epson salt bath before bed 4 imodium (NO sleeping pills) and see how that works. The chills lasted about 15 days for me and the sneezing lasted the longest. It does get better!! Exercise is really the best thing that could help you right now but it always felt like I was wearing a 500lb lead suit and to get up to go to the bathroom felt like a workout.

Will after bout 2 wks you should be able to work. Getting out of house and working will help with energy and mood!! Are you sleeping better? This is a slow process I'm so very sorry to say!! It would be nice if they told us this!! Have you gone back and read my posts? I put down when was feeling better etc. Remember I stopped cold turkey at a very high dose so my symptoms lasted longer. There are things to help but they can be habit forming as well!! Try to keep on the road your on. Almost 2 wks!!!!

the chills should start letting up some in the next few days. i think mine lasted about 14 to 15 days. the energy is actually one of the last things to get back. im right now 49 days off subs & still dont have alot of energy. its better then it was but not much. they say it takes 90 days to fully recover. thats the thing with subs is the detox lasts so long which makes it miserable & hard! as for how i quit was i just jumped. i was taking 8-12 mgs a day when i jumped & had been taking them for 5 yrs. so within that time sometimes id take up to 16mgs a day. i like you got tired of the cost & the way they was making me feel! i myself took no comfort meds & just let my body do what it needed to do. some people do say things like immodium, herbs, & benzos help with the w/d cause you will get anxiety. i have anxiety disorder also but im not on meds for it as i quit those awhile back also so the anxiety the first couple of weeks was pretty bad for me. i still get them at night but nothing i cant handle & it doesnt last that long either. i found like alot of other people do that blasting music in my ears helped with the anxiety. also for the energy alot of people say exercise helps with that quicker. i cant exercise due to my back so im having to let mine come back on its own. sub detox is a really long process but it is doable! i wish you all the best!

yes im still dealing with sleeping problems but i think they are starting to slowly get better. i tried melatonin for sleep but it only worked for like 2 nights. you will have your good days & bad days but your good days should start getting to be more & more. MAYMAY you could be startin w/d cause usually mine always started on day 1 but luckily this time i jumped they didnt start till the 3rd day. the w/d usually doesnt hit its peak for 7 to 10 days. subs have a long half life of 72 hrs which means only half the drug is out of your system in 72 hours. thats what makes sub w/d so hard really is cause it lasts so long! they say it takes a full 90 days to fully recover. after that if you have any symptoms they call it p.a.w.s which normally you have to be on the subs a long time to get that. right now im still dealing with depression, some anxiety, & sleep problems but i am only on day 52 of my detox so im hoping by the 90 days thatll all be over. i was also on them for 5 yrs & jumped at a pretty high dose which is probably what caused mine to linger for so long. im also still sneezing which i think everyone gets. it can be aggravating!

I remember being hooked on pain killers about 6 percs a day and weening down to one. It's crazy how paws works, I went away to Puerto Rico for 10 days slept fine was fine the whole vacation mind you I was only hooked on percocets for about 6 months. The minute I landed back home the paws I suddenly felt was unbelievable and it did not go away. It's so crazy how the brain works.i couldn't take it anymore and took a small piece of suboxone from a friend what a difference that made!! It immediately went away and I got so high from it. But I Regret thst day Because I Should Of Just Rode It out. Unfortunately my addiction got worse I started doing tons of H and crack, xanax, it was soo bad. Back then when suboxone came out no one knew what the withdrawals would be. I have been on 16 mg of suboxone on and off since 2009, but the last two years I have been on suboxone but have not used any narcotic to feel high and do not use the suboxone to feel high only to prevent the urges. But the amount of H I was using I still had to go through H withdrawal even being on the suboxone my body is so used to suboxone it does not alter my mood in any way whatsoever Because Of My Heavy Drug use but it has assisted me in maintaining a normal life, hence I do have bipolar and anxiety, suboxone did save my life but I made a promise to myself that this year I am tapering off and getting off suboxone. I have been going to Na meetings for two years and have learned tools that will help me get through this. I know it is going to suck no matter what and I plan to take off from work when that time comes, but I am ready I'm tired of having a crutch in my life I do consider myself a recovering addict that is in medication assisted recovery but I am certainly not physically clean I am dependent on this medication . However I do not steal or hurt people that I love anymore, I have money in the bank, am going to school, working. I had to change my attitudes and behaviors but now I know I am strong enough to taper and live a life without any crutch. But my honest advice to anyone just try and deal with the withdrawals if you do use suboxone to detox get off of it quickly. If I would of known what I know now about suboxone I would never have taken it. It is only prolonging the unevitable which is withdrawal. It's going to suck but it must be done.

I tapered down to 1/2 milligram of suboxone after a 2 yr run on 16 milligrams a day. It took 6 months to do it. I'm on day 5 of being clean and feel like I'm gonna have a heart attack. Uncontrollable shaking/seizures. Feels like it will never end. I can handle the other symptoms but the shaking is bad. Feels like my views are gonna explode. Anyone know how long it takes for that to end?

Please understand that Suboxone is a long term acting drug. The fact that it has a 72 or so hour half life makes it easy for someone to forget to take it one day and not notice they need it until the next day or two. The big problem is when the person is without it for three or more days. The withdrawal symptom can be worse than any opiate including H. The best course of action is to do a controlled withdrawal. It is best to do a 10% per month withdrawal from the drug. I know this from experience. If you try to do it all at once the agony will be bad for 4 to 5 weeks. This I also know from experience.

Suboxone withdrawal in my experience is far worse than opiate withdrawal (lortab). It just goes on forever or it seems. The physical withdrawal lasts approximately 10 days or longer. The mental withdrawal is 6 to 8 weeks. It's absolutely hell on earth. If you can wean down on pills and go through the 3 or 4 days of s***s and shivers do it. I don't care what any doctor tells you. The withdrawal off subs is horrible. And I was only taking a half of a milligram before I quit. The only time suboxone is worth taking is if you are knocking on deaths door with taking opiates. I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy. I urge people not to join a suboxone treatment unless absolutely necessary. Wean off the pills and take your 3 day punishment.

My question is I have taken suboxone for awhile now and for the past few months I've been tapering off of them I'm to the point of where about a 4mg strip will last for probably around 10 days. My question is that even enough to be helping me or is it all just in my head? I'm just wondering because I'm quitting one way or the other just want to know if the withdraws will be as bad as others because of my low doses or if anyone else has tryed it this way.. All help is appreciated thanks...
