How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Take An Opiate? (Page 9)

Updated

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help.

I was hurt 13 years ago. I've been doing opiates and subs on and off for 13 years. I know what you are saying. I'm not doubting that. If I wait 5 hours I'm good personally. It works for me. I don't care what or who or why. All I am stating is that for the last time. It works for me. Not everyone else I understand that.

Js: Yes, that should not be a problem. I don't know how much a "quarter strip" is, since I only did tablet Bupe, but you should be fine. Not sure why you would WANT to take Bupe and Percocet together, but that's your business.

If u are on subs then u can't take pain meds with the subs the pain meds will be useless ..I had surgery after being on subs for two years and when the surgery was schedualed my doctor took my off subs prescribe me morphine sulfate so I wouldn't get in withdrawal and then I could start my pain meds about five days after being on morphine sulfate u have to get the subs out of your system before starting a pain regiment I was told this by my doct otherwise it will be a waste of meds to take subs and opiats at same time

BEEBOP: Yep. Full agonist painkillers have to have an opioid receptor to "fit into" in order to do their job. And since the Subs completely fill in your opioid receptors, there is nowhere for the painkillers to go. So it is indeed a waste to try taking painkillers AFTER taking Subs. And it can also be dangerous if you take too much, trying to "override" the Subs. Just a bad idea altogether. I have to wonder about all these people trying their damndest to feel high while taking Subs. "How soon after taking Subs will I feel Oxys?" etc. Why are they even ON Subs, if they are still trying to use? What a waste of time, money and resources. Take one or the other....taking both is ridiculous, and can be downright DANGEROUS. Plus, you do NOT want to go through Precipitated Withdrawals.

ALLEYC: Yes, Clonazepam and Lorazepam are Benzodiazepines, and therefore not affected by Suboxone. As far as you saying you are "running out and getting withdrawal"...could you be more specific? Are you saying that you are running out of the Benzos? There would definitely be a withdrawal from that.

One day ago in the morning I took a piece of a suboxone. I feel like s*** with chills, runny nose, hot / cold, back & fourth to the bathroom. Can I take a percocet?

Yes you are simply feeling the affects of not having any Benzo's on your system. You can have withdrawal from those also. Is a matter of fact . Very unpleasant . Good Luck

kkh Just wondering. Are you a doctor ? You seem to be on here a lot and have a lot of information.

SWEETIE720: Sorry, I didn't see this sooner. If you take Suboxone/Subutex too soon after taking full agonist opioids (Vicodin, Percocet, morphine, etc) you can go into what is called Precipitated Withdrawals. Suboxone/Subutex (generic name Buprenorphine) is a partial agonist opioid, which means it will "block" any and all other opioids from attaching to the receptors. Which as an opioid addict, you DON'T want. So taking more Percocets at that time probably wouldn't help much. Hopefully you only took a small amount of the Suboxone, and it would be out of your system by now. Remember, if you take opioids, and then take Subs too soon afterwards, you will get pretty sick.

TC: No, I am not an MD. I was pre-med at Berkeley, and went into medical research instead. I work with the leading addiction specialist in my state. He was actually the Addiction Specialist for an NBA basketball team for a while, and speaks in front of the State Legislature regarding addiction medicine, as well as other medical issues. I also am a 30 year+ opioid addict, have been on both Methadone and Subutex/Suboxone. So I have been on BOTH sides of it. And when I see people CONSTANTLY posting bad information on here, I just can't help but to reply. All these "experts", putting substances in their bodies, that have NO CLUE what they are doing. And then coming on here and "advising" others with their bad info? Sorry.....NO.

ALLEYC: As TC said, the meds you are taking are called Benzodiazapines, and you are going to be in Benzo withdrawal. This is no joke; if you are on a high enough dose, you may need to be hospitalized for withdrawals. If it gets really bad, I would go to the ER. NO ONE should go through ANY withdrawals without medical assistance, but alcohol, barbiturates and benzos are EXTREMELY dangerous withdrawals and should not be done alone.

Excuse me, I am in the same predicament as you. I've been on suboxone for a year and a half.. I had to get stitches today. I took half of an 8mg suboxone, so 4mg at about 7am and it's now 3:15pm. I am not looking to feel high, but I'm in serious pain. Will the Percocet help or not?

KELLI: You can take the Percocet AFTER taking Bupe with no danger of precipitated withdrawal, but whether or not the Percocet will be effective is unknown. It depends on the amount of Perc, the amount of Bupe, the timing of it all... It might, it might not. I'm not your doctor and I'm not going to tell you what to do, but the Bupe will make opioids pretty ineffective. If I were you, I would ask the doctor about stopping the Bupe while taking the Percocet. You aren't going to get much relief from Percocet while taking Bupe. And since the Percocet is a full-agonist opioid, it will keep you from going into withdrawal. But whatever you do, DO NOT take any Bupe too soon AFTER taking the Percocet. You do NOT need precipitated withdrawals on top of this surgery.

MIKEY: Are you saying that the last time you took Suboxone was Tuesday? Again, taking Suboxone BEFORE taking an opioid won't give you withdrawals. It is when you take Suboxone too soon AFTER taking the full-agonist opioids that gets you into trouble. Taking the Suboxone BEFORE taking full-agonist opioids basically makes that opioid ineffective. You won't get much effect from it, if any. That's what it is SUPPOSED to do. But either way, you should be fine if Tuesday was the last time you took Bupe, especially since it sounds like you took a pretty small amount.

I was on it for 2 years also and Dr. Titrated me down...I went from 2 to 1/12,then 1,1/2.. I was on each dose for 3 days and I'm fine... Glad to be off them.Good luck

Scotty lass,

So you were taking subs everyday x 2 years and successfully titrated down to zero sub in a 15 day period?? That seems unbelievably rapid for such a substantial dose and for a considerable length of time?? That's beyond awesome have you any withdrawal effects at all since being drug free?? Just curious... Good for you..

Sorry, but I'm gonna have to call BS on someone going down that rapidly from Subs and being "just fine" during the process. Especially after being on a steady amount for two years. Heck, you really wouldn't even FEEL the drop much for a couple of days. So.... sorry if I offend any of you, but I'm not buying that one at all.
