I became a pain patient after I fell off a horse in March of last year and sustained spinal injuries which are still VERY painful. Opana ER was the first thing doctors gave me that helped at all and now that they have changed the formula I'm in a lot more pain. I want to break down the formula so I can insufflate it, as I am told I may get more pain relief and increase bioavailability of the drug. The new formula hardly offers the same pain relief, Please help me!

I agree. I e had three back surgeries. Just started opana 30 er. So far? No relief. It's junkies that shoot or snort medicine they messed it up for people like us that dread the day not knowing what pain we will be in. We do tell the weather on target. Lol

I too am in alot of pain first thing in the morning - I have found if I take the new formula with my morning coffee (as hot as you can stand) it melts it on the way down and starts to work in about 10-`15 mins. I was really pleasantly surprised the first time I did it so now I do that every morning.

you are wrong. I had two back surgeries w/n 12 months of each other and on the second round, my spinal cord became infected. The pain was so bad I began thinking about swallowing a .45 cal round. Dead serious. I wasnt going to live in that pain for the rest of my life like the doctors were telling me I may have to.The problem I had was my doctor didnt believe me for five weeks following surgery....until I lost control of my bladder and couldnt move my leg to get out of bed! I had to crush and snort two (2) 40mg pills every morning just to begin moving about vs laying in bed and was still in pain so bad it would on occassion take my breath away. I crushed 4-6 more 40 mg opanas throughout the day just to sit on the floor with my back against the couch to watch TV and eat. I spent 11 days in the hospital and another month giving myself antibiotics at home thru a PIC line before I could walk with a walker. Before my injury, I was a 6'-1" 210 lb, 45 yr old man, former 4 sport athlete in HS, ran 800 meters in college (held my high school 800 yard record for years), played approx 200 games of competitive mens softball per year from my early 20's up to my first back injury at 41 years old, played competitive rackball all winter, cross trained year round, and in tremendous physical condition. Before my back problems, I had numerous broken bones and hundreds of stiches from sports and racing dirt bikes as a kid. I never abused pain meds until my back injuries. So please, before you pass judgement, live through several herniated disks for 2-3 years, experience six epidurals, let them hack into your lower back and move your spinal cord out of the way with a tool while they cut away the herniated portion (twice...exact same surgery) sew you up, an and let an infection slowly radiate out and away from your incision about an inch below the surface and wake up at night with leg cramps so bad you can see every muscle fiber in your inner thigh as if the skin has been removed. Crawl to the bathroom in the morning while you release a small amount of urine with every step of your left leg so by the time you reach the head, your pants are soaked, perhaps you dont make it one morning and have a bowel movement on your bathroom floor right beside the head and you have to mop it up with toilet paper while laying on your side and your girlfriend is outside the door crying because you wont let her in to see you in such a disgraceful state with the stench of your fecus filling the room. I watched my legs atrophy right before my eyes and was told I may never walk again. After my second surgery, I somehow ended up with an infected spinal cord (L1-S5). I called my doctors office four times the first week after my surgery to tell him a new pain was spreading across my lower back, I had a fever, and the pain was worsening daily. They blew me off and said that is normal!!! Ten days following surgery, I was in the Emergency room with back pain so bad I was crippled and dropped to me knees crying. They all just kept telling me it was part of the healing process after performing two more MRI's. Live thru that hell and transform from a very active, fun-loving guy with a great job to a man in constant pain so bad it changed my personality, prohibitied me from working for nearly nine (9) months, had me contemplating suicide. Walk in my shoes for a few years and then tell me about "all you want is to get high". You havent got a clue whats its like. I was given every pain med on the market and crushing opana's was the only thing that made life bearable for nearly 18 months. Oxycontin did nothing, wearing 2-4 fentyenal patches did little, eating 12-15 10 mg percoets per day helped a little, demeral IV didnt knock the pain back enough that I could swing my torso to get out of bed without lifting myself with a ring hanging from a chain above my bed. If you are curious, go to your doctor, tell him you want an epidural in your S1, ask him to insert the needle into your spind until it makes contact with your spinal cord...you will know the moment this happens b/c it may feel as if you just stepped on a 220 volt exposed wire and the current was shooting thru your foot, behind your knee, and into your buttocks and you might feel as if you just lost control of your bladder. Have him keep the needle in contact with your spine for 60 seconds. Now take that feeling and live with it 24/7 for a few months and take all of your medications as prescribed. Then return to this site and let me know how you managed. Good luck.

Ok so you still insert the pill in anel correct after you go to the bathroom you just reinsert it and do u have to do that and whats the needle for i lost my spot on that part

I have a serious comment to make about the new Opana ER. If it doesn't work, how can you have withdrwal symptoms? I've taken the old ones and now the new ones. The FDA is getting heavily involved in companies making pills that generate less euphoria. Opana ER does work because try not taking any at all for a few days, suffer the withdrawal and then take your Opana. Shortly, you aren't sick in WD anymore. Does this tell you anything???

You are right about the coffee or other hot liquid! I do the same thing and drinks several hot cups of coffee and viola the Opana kicks in. Heat also increases the bo. Look on a fentanyl patch insert and it says "Avoid heat above body temp." And I thought I was crazy about the hot coffee. Thanks for letting us know you do it too and I'm not nuts!

you obviously dont have pain to start with. my back is killing me and i just took a 20 mg opana just chewed it up and swallowed it thought that might make it work quicker it has been 30 minutes at least and my back is hurting worse than before i took it. The medications should be left alone and if people want to kill themselves well let them. and let people with ligitimate pain have some relief

Hello and thank you for your reply...I know it is very easy for someone to get addicted to pain medicine, the (happy pills) but we as adults have to learn to take control of our lives and not allow pills to rule our abilities and our lives, and that they surely can do..I made the decision after I began snorting the Opanas, I am not embarrased to sayit, but I looked in the mirror one day and knew I was trying to control the pain as well, but the feeling of invisability and nothing could stop me while on those NASTY pills, were not going to control me as a woman NO LONGER...soo, i found a good doctor and it was a time consuming thing, many docs find it easy to write out a RX easier than doing the correct tests and studies on you....let me help you my friend, and anykne else who may be reading this...;) who wants out, of the (pill factory) life...it does get better, its a road and not easy, but it is so much better to live a life NOT around counting pills and being scared of running out, so here I go...;)

I researched, reearched, and found a good doctor, not only doctor but office that specialized and had good standings in MANAGING PAIN in other factors than pills alone...I suffer a few problems other than injuries from a accident which were painful, I also suffer from severe migraines which anyone who suffers them, know how crippling they are. i also have Fibromyalgia, which I was taking anhigh dose of Lyrica, LYRICA.....what a pill that makes you feel so funky and forgetful, along with the topamax i had to take..I was at 3 topamax in the morning, three at night...Two lyrica in the morning, two at night, I was on 3 opana ER's a day along with three Exalgo's a day...I would take Relpax for the migraines and IM injectable if needed as well....

I found a doctor who does the medtronic drug delivery system and did the psychology testing first to see if I was a good candiddate, usually a good doctor will do that first, so check into that ok..;) Then the next step is the testing period to see if you are
A good candidate, which they will do a test on you. They will administer whatever medicine they feel is the best for you into your spinal cavity area and you will stay at your office or where ever they do it for usually a 2 hour period to see how you react and how it manages your pain? To be hinest, it worked well for me but was kind of hard to know the true effect because your not out doing your normal routines..;) but dont be discouraged..With this device, in the future if you are unhappy they can either turn it off or remove it at any time you wish..I have had my device in for approximately 7 weeks now and it works GREAT for the pain management, and they are not even using narcotic drug on me, its more like an anesthetic delivered through my spine to numb the pain nerves, so that even makes me more happy that I have no narcotic going through my spine either. My goal is to be off ALL narcotics, and I know now I will be in time, soon hopefully. So far, I am off All my pilss except the Exalgo, and I am down 10 mg and to 2 a day instead three, doc says I have to do it slowly so my body doesnt go through withdrawls because I have been on pain meds for so long...They have given me 60 count of Norco for breakthrough if I need it, but I still have them all, isnt that GREAT??? ;))) And let me tell you, before, those pills would have been gone by now..NOT NOW, not this new woman now...;)))))

Just need to dig deep inside ourselves sometimes and grab ahold of it....and if they do, they will be so much happier in the long run..The pill road is nothing but disaster, nothing good comes of it..it can ruin relationships, family lives, and so much more...REALLY, IS IT WORTH IT?? Nope.....

You should take your meds as directed.If you have to resort to other means I think you are looking for a highand not relief from pain.If I am wrong in your instance i appologize but that is why legit pain patients are having trouble finding the oxys because they give you a high.I was on oxys and the pain relief was good but noticed I was using more than prescribed and told my doc to take me off them,I dont want to be addicted,just dependent to relieve pain.I take MS Contin which is Morphine 100mg and 30mg for bt.pain and they work for me without having to take more than prescribed and wind up being addicted.Please accept my appologies if you are truthful and not addicted.UFC

If you must and I probably shouldn't give this info out, but maybe it really does help people better with pain. to all you non believers of that statement why are pill crushers made for other meds? So giving the benefit of my doubt I will tell you how to getter done so to speak

use a dremel tool with the right grinder head attached and grind it in the direction as to catch the powder coming off. Most sets come with an array of grinder heads. you want to use the one that looks like a drum so to speak.

you are lucky. my new pain management dr. said that she does not recommend opiate pain meds for chronic conditions and put me on Topomax. i am so screwed. i have to give it a try but i will definitely have horrible withdrawals very soon. i am so scared.

To Liza: Opiate abuse is a terrible problem. I know from experience. That said, people that are addicted are still going to abuse this drug. Like me, I am simply looking for the best way to use until I hopefully can stop this madness.

To Fuzz: Are you serious? Justifying the abuse of narcotics, because they make pill crushers!?! Now I've heard it all... Crushers are intended for non time released meds that people have a hard time swallowing, not to make them ready to be snorted or injected! I don't care that people are going to abuse their meds, but don't sugar coat it... Call it what it really is... drug abuse/misuse! Their is no medical reason for someone to do this,, but to get as high or euphoric reaction! Again, I'm not judging those who choose to do this, but at least call it what it really is... the intentional misuse/abuse of narcotics!

Back Pain,you are correct. It is sickening what people will do to get high.But my reality is that I have been addicted for many yrs. I'm trying to get the most out of Opana so that I won't buy heroin (much cheaper) and start back with needles.Until the govt. treats addiction like a social disease we are doomed to this "drug war" failure.

The party will never be over. Addicts will turn to heroin. Many have already done so. Heroin also brings new and more violent problems.It would be great if people just stopped, but that is not the reality in most cases. The U.S. at some point, must do like Portugal did.Ck. this website.

I totally agree about Suboxone. It was truly a wonder drug to get through opiate withdrawals. In my case I had a 1 month supply, but after about 3 weeks I felt fine. The only complaint I have heard is that some people keep taking Suboxone for months?( I always thought that was because they were afraid of relapse if they stopped )
