I took 100 mg of Tramadol last Thursday and have to have a urine test at my pain doc next Thursday (2 weeks between dosage and test). I was wondering if anyone has been tested positive after that long?

I also attend a methadone clinic; and was looking to see if anyone knew how long Tramodol stays in your system. I was curious because I was in a lot of (lower back) pain last Sunday. (It was prescribed to me but it was an old left over prescription from a problem a year ago. So while technically I was taking a prescription for myself; since it was prescribed recently or for the reason I took it I feel it may upset the methadone clinic & I am subject to random drug testing) At any rate, I am simply replying because of the comment/reply (from someone Below) about "methadone and tramodol would both just show up as an opioid on a 5 panel" etc. This may be true for many vague drug tests (Such as testing for hiring purposes etc.) But Methadone & Suboxone Clinics (like the one I attend) order SPECIFIC drug tests. They pay extra to SPECIAL ORDER Their drug tests; because they need to see if you've taken anything other than the methadone they are giving you. If anything other than the methadone or suboxone shows up on the test you're IMMEDIATELY discharged from the program. (Unless it was recently prescribed by a doctor for a current condition.) So while many drug tests may just come up positive for opiates; a clinic will know if you're taking Tramodol, Methadone, Percocet, Vicodin, HEROIN or even a simple benzo (such as Valium) for anxiety, wtc. etc. etc. Please try not to take anything other than the methadone you're being given; but if you DO slip or surrender to the pain (Such as I did last Sunday) Keep in mind it may take up to 5 days to flush out it of your system. (From what I've been reading...) It would be a good idea to drink lots of water. But if you drink too much water & produce clear urine; it's an AUTOMATIC FAIL. So some good suggestions I've READ, is to drink water until your urine is clear; then take some multivitamins & possibly an energy shot, to color your urine yellow again. Vitamin B's & many other vitamins will color your urine yellow, as if you're dehydrated.

My drug info papers that comes with my script says it is a narcotic.

It's a synthetic narcotic so it does not show up like regular narcotic would. I work in the medical field and know this first hand.

Be aware that Tramadol IS considered a narcotic now. And it IS tested in your urine now.

Tramadol is derived from opium and it WILL show up as opiate on a urine drug screen. Some tests are specific to opiates and will further test for oxycodon or tramadol for reasons stated in other postings. So on a 5-panel 10-panel ect it will show up as "opiate positive". Hope this helps. Tramadol is a mu-opioid agonists that target mu receptors specifically so they are theoretically effective for pain without some of the cns depression or "high". From personal experience, using several at one time gives a slight high but not anything you would be happy with. And high doses are known to cause seizures and headaches among several other uncomfortable side effects.

I was asking about the severe itching reaction to tramadol. My asking about how long it would be in system had nothing to do with drug testing--- I just wondered how long it would take to leave my system. I have my ans now: it took almost 3.5 weeks! The itching has finally stopped. I took half of the prescribed dose and stopped on the third day. Can anyone speak to this reaction issue?

Help! I took Tramadol HCL for 3 days for knee pain. I started itching on back, thighs, hips, lower legs. I stopped drug and took Benadryl. Put on cortisone cream 1% nothing helps. I finally called and got something stronger than benadryl--- hydroxide. It is two weeks since last dose and the itching is driving me up a wall. Please tell me what I can take to relieve this. Vicky

Dr. surprised me with a urine test and discontinued all pain meds stating in my official letter that specifically tramadol showed up (which were not prescribed ) . I had taken 50 mg 9 hours earlier so yes it is included in all drug screenings. Sorry but that's the way it goes.

I'm reading a lot of misinformation here... Tramadol is a synthetic (man made) opioid. It has less abuse potential so it is a schedule IV drug. Suboxone is also an opioid and has 2 medications: bupenorphine (opioid) and naloxone (opioid "block"). The bupenorphine (also found in Subutex and Zubsolv) has a stronger affinity to the opioid receptors in the body than other opioids. Meaning, when you take Suboxone (at the proper dose, that is key) and then attempt to take other opioids, you will not feel the effects of the other opioids because there are no free receptors for the opioids to bind to and the bupenorphine cannot be "bounced off" the receptors. The nalaxone is only effective (able to block opioids) if used intravenously, and is added to the medication to prevent misuse. Hope that helps.

Tramadol brand name Ultram will show up in urine toxicology tests from 4-5 days depending on dosage and frequency of use. Most doctors did not use to test for tramadol but today with stricter laws on controlled substances I myself always test for tramadol along with all other opiates. In most cases it will stay in blood up to 10days but with urine should be gone in 4days. So if it's been two weeks since your last dose your fine. Also for other people reading don't drink a lot of water before urine drug screens thinking it will flush narcotics out quicker IT WILL NOT IT ONLY DILUTES URINE WHICH TELLS DOCTORS YOUR HIDING SOMETHING. This is a word to the wise you cannot fool today's drug tests so please don't try take medicine only prescribed to you and avoid the heartache.

HI, walking eagle here. After an acute incident. (Stepped off a 3 1/2 inch sidewalk under repair. A few months ago. Have to give credit to my doctor for making an effort to relieve my severe pain symptoms. Without going to true opiates. Bacfloren, gabapentin,
Lyrica, and tramadol. May I suggest to always do your homework and write a daily log , watching for side effects, interactions and mood changes. Sciatica is In describable to persons who never suffered with this. After extensive physical therapy
Kinesiology, massage, and chiropractic care.
( not the bone crunching kind. Gentle release methods. ) I am now considered functional enough to exercise my priveleges running with a manageable pain level of 2 out of 10.
Celebrex, Tylenol, ibuprofen,or aspirin.
Line your stomach with something before taking any medication. Even Virgin olive oil will help. These opiates or synthetics hopefully will get you through the acute stages of your issues. Alternative methods of healing are the only road back. Therapy,exercise, weight loss. Diet. Control of bad habits, you know what I mean . I have a few myself. I only wonder how many denzel washington's (Flight)are out there among us. Trying to deal with pain issues.
I hope that helps. I did not feel compromised in function. However, again all these substances effect us differently.

It affects people differently. I was taking 2 at a time at 50 mg every 6 hours. Did this for 6 months. The pain subsided as my physical therapy went on. I then stopped to see how my healing was coming along. Three days later I took one and took another later. I then would take one when I needed it. I was given a new script a year ago. I thin I used it twice or thrice since... No with drawals problems. Last time I needed it was like six months ago.. I now use neproxin as needed....
My problem was a torn shoulder... It still hurts, daily it RU s at a level of 2 - 3,,, FETs to an 7 or 8 I then take neproxin.

Narcotics need a new script every month and cannot have refills on them. My Tramadol script has 6 refills on it and can be called in. Tramadol is not in the same class as opiotes.

U r ABSOLUTELY RIGHT...it was just recently switched into the norcatic class opiate drug & now alot of places DO TEST r have added it to the panel

Thank you for letting us know this. So many or I will say most will not come back and let us know if they passed or not. Questions to help others if you do not mind......... How many panel was it......and what was it for....... its ok if it was for probation. Many here are on probation or pain management. Did you take any steps to help remove it from your body like lots of water and sweating or not? These are the things they will want to know. I myself dont need the anwser to this but will help so many in the long run. I have found most people here are in pain but can not get the necessary meds they need to keep from pain.......or they are trying to stop drugs...... and slip........ etc......... I have never been a addict and never intend to be one. I am however a patient in Pain Managment and they have a several panel test they do on us ......its a pop test .....you never know your gonna get one......and I mean we are talking over 20 panels.......... they test you for everything........ your supposed to be taking and make sure it shows up enough...........and what we are not supposed to be taking...... I have never failed as far as what I shouldn't be taking........but have failed once for meds they have given me to take...... that I did not have enough in my system.. Yep they do that. So I learned fast. My first and only strike I can have. So thank you so much for letting us know this......... if you would indulge however in what you did before it would be much appreciated. More than likely I am thinking that you did not know that Tramadol is a controlled medication now. Thank you again for posting.
