How Do You Avoid Yen Sleep

Updated

I am finding that when I take my PRN (as needed) dose of IR morphine any time after 4 pm, no matter what I take, lorazepam, ambien, phenergan, soma that I can't fall asleep and if I do it's that "yen" type of sleep where I am kind of in a trance. I am finding that I need the PRN dosing more and more at night so what can I do to counter the effects. In the day it makes me sleepy but at night it's completely different. I've asked my doctor about it and for a different solution but he says there is nothing stronger or better that he can prescribe that I can afford - I don't have prescription coverage. I've looked into the affordability of some of the other options and they are more than my mortgage! I can't qualify for any RX assistance because I am on Medicare which is really unfair because any other insurance and I could get RX assistance but not on Medicare. I'm desperate for help. Thank you.

I'm unsure of what you are referring to as 'yen' sleep.

And it is very odd that Morphine would cause this only at certain times of day, it should cause it all the time when you take it, if it is what's causing the problem.

Learn more Morphine details here.

Have you and your doctor looked into anything to see what else might be causing it?

It's a state of being in and out of sleep, like a trance almost. You never fall into REM sleep, very wakeful so it feels like you've never fallen asleep. The doctor says that some people experience this on narcotics, the reason it's only at night is because during the day you want to be wakeful. No other narcotic even with a sleep aid has been any different so I am left with staying up from pain or sleeping very poorly and then needing to nap virtually every day. I have a friend that says dilaudid makes her sleepy and I can take it w/o that effect so I think everyone reacts differently to these meds. I was hoping someone had some advice as to a way to handle it, possibly their doctor had come up with a combination that allowed them to sleep better. Thank you for trying to help me.

My grandson lost a large patch of hair on the back of his head abt 5x3 in size. There are also smaller patches on the top and sides of head. The regrowth is fine baby fluff that resemble hair of cancer patients. He is 5yrs eats a balanced diet supplemented with correct kiddie vitamins. But his daycare grandmother chains smokes and the child is kept with her in same room all day. This is disgusting! Has anyone out there got any information that can help me link secondary smoking to what is happening. As the other gran I have to do something drastic abt this heartbreaking situation. Any info will be very much appreciated.

You have posted this in the incorrect forum but it sounds like your grandson is suffering from a form of alopecia which can be idiopathic in that there is no known cause or it can be triggered by allergans. Google alopecia and pediatrics and find a physician in your area that accepts the coverage he has. Many times this occurrs in response to a stressful event (i.e., parents fighting, illness, fighting over finances, etc.) and others they never do find the cause but they do have wonderful drugs that enable the child to regr

You can purchase insurance for drugs on Medicare. It costs about $20 a month. We have Magellan and morphine sulphate 30mg is $5. Can vary by state though.
