Hippa
UpdatedI know that HIPPA protects me from my dr. giving information to family members w/o my permission. What protects me from family members able to get to my dr. thru his nurse w/o my permission and this dr. does a complete reversal towards me and my wife?

There is nothing to stop your family members from contacting anyone and saying whatever they wish. The laws only protect your medical privacy to stop the doctor or nurse from sharing information about you.
There is also nothing to stop your doctor from taking such information seriously, if he feels there is good reason to do so, or if they have provided him/her with some type of proof.
So, basically HIPAA prevents anyone that's providing you with any type of medical care from discussing your treatment and health with anyone else, unless they have your permission to do so. But, if for example, a family member felt you weren't being treated properly, or were abusing medications, or whatever other reason they are concerned, they can freely go to your doctor, nurse, or other medical practitioner and express these concerns.
Are there any other questions?
