Help Getting To Sleep At Night

Updated

I've been on 150 mg Nuvigil for about 4 weeks and just starting to go to 250 mg because it didn't seem as effective during the day as when I first started using it. I'm continuing to have problems falling to sleep at night. It's like trying to get to sleep after taking a daytime cold medicine. I take the pill early in the morning (around 7AM) and don't go to bed till 9 PM. I toss and turn till around 1 or 2 AM. Any suggestions on how to sleep better? Would taking benedryl, melatonin, or some type of sleep aid help?

It is very common to experience insomnia for the first 4 weeks, or so, after starting this medication or raising the dosage. However, after that, things should improve, once your body gets used to it.

Other side effects, as listed by the FDA, may possibly include nausea, headache, nervousness, irritability and weight loss.

Have you consulted your doctor? Are you on any other medications? I'm sorry, but I need more information to answer your question.

Sorry for the delay in responding to your question. I have not talked with the doctor about this. The only other medications that I take are a baby aspirin and 10 mg Lipitor for cholesterol. If I feel really hyper at bedtime I've been taking one high strength tylenol and that seems to help but I don't like taking it every night. I haven't been taking Nuvigil on the weekends when I am off of work. Do you think that might be causing some of the problems getting to sleep during the week?

Yes, it could be. While not taking it every day keeps you from becoming tolerant to a medication too fast, it also causes to experience the side effects for a longer period of time.
