How Long Does Methadone Stay In Your System? (Page 13)

Is Methadone completely out of your system in 72 hours, or does it take longer? Since Methadone seems to last longer that 4 - 6 hours, I was just wondering?

I was on 2mg (liquid) methadone and would take my drink every morning at 6 am. I have two boys so never wanted to feel yucky. Today is Monday and my last drink was Friday morning. I feel fine other than restless legs but I have meds from my doctor for that and I am taking vitamins. I toss and turn a bit at night but nothing I can't handle. I am wondering why it's so mild. May be because it's still so soon...I have no idea but I keep telling myself in won't let it effect me and I have to get up and move.

Please do not even start methadone. I was prescribed it by my pain mgmt. Physician for 6 yrs. After a whole year I'm just now starting to feel normal. Agree Kurt, it is an evil, beyond evil, medication. It truly steals your everything.

Just read your post.just what I was looking for. I HAVE BEEN ON methadone for ten years 120 mg a day.I am now on 40 mg a day.Want to start a new career in truck driveing and know me and meathadone have to part. Fine by me this drug is hell on earth.STAY AWAY.please withdrawal is trouble for any man or woman

Kurt...O.M.G.! When I just read what you said about methadone,was like reading what I've been shouting to everyone that will listen at this clinic that I'm leaving. Same words....Evil! Not to mention Poison! They take you off street drugs and put you on something worse so they can make that money! How they justify it, I haven't a clue! Anyhow, been there buddy...and I have vowed to protest against it for the rest of my life!

Methadone is the worst thing you could take. I've been on it for 4 years and it changed me. It's been 7 days since my last drink, I tapered off and barely any withdrawls. Lack of energy and restless legs. That's about it. If anyone wants to get off I suggest doing it slowly. Unfortunately it takes awhile. I found my sense of humor is back and so many other things. It's like I've been living in a fog for 4 years. Insane! Anyone can get off it, just have to keep telling yourself that. Worst possible meds to take!

I've been in five Methadone clinics. The most recent the longest. In August (2015-this year) will be my 4 year anniversary. I planned on being there for 18 months. I HAVE kicked, by reducing my dose little by little, then surviving on ONE 10mg methadone oil every OTHER day, then switched to Ultram (before they decided to make tramadol a narcotic, which, btw, I find pathetic and hilarious all at the same time!) Unfortunately for me, some stressful life situations, along with some sad losses of friends and family members that all seemed to happen at once, I started taking updates again, but this time, I'm sticking with it & NOT going back once I dose out of here.

I'm in school to make my negatives in life a little positive: I'm going to be a drug counselor. MY CURRENT counselor is in recovery-she had 15 years in Jan. The head counselor there will have 12 years in June. I personally felt better talking to someone who KNEW what I'd been through them someone who THINKS they know because they learned it in a book. Jmho. ANYWAYS, is I were to put MY 2 cents in, I'd stay AWAY from the met clinic, & find a suboxone dr, or (if you're pregnant) a subutex doctor. I worked in a pharmacy, & sub's DO WORK. The problem is, you have to WANT TO STOP. At the clinic, you've got incentive and motivation.

When it's just a script, it's all up to you, so do yourself a favor, and SEE a therapist, be HONEST, and it'll be SOO much easier!! If you have any questions, either about USING, or getting HELP, or WHERE/HOW to get help. I'll answer ANY & EVERY question 100% honestly--no bs dance around. Hope I can help! (Have taken every drug but Methamphetamine). I'm in school to counsel at a drug rehab.

I agree. I was on it for 10 years at 150 milligrams of methadone. Went cold turkey. f***ed. Wasn't right. Stayed clean 3 years. My child was killed. Starting taking opiates again. Bam, I'm back at the methadone clinic. I'm miserable and want off. It makes me worthless. Please listen to us stay a f***en way!

when will they listen to us. i been on 30 yrs.with 2 detoxs. last detox almost killed me.then I fell from a horse. rehab says relate to horses when clean.seen it on a greenbrier film was doin great 2 yrs clean im back on 20 mg. wish.Im 57.I just so hope to help young addict methadone is not the way.Im on my 4th chapter of life.and it hasnt been a happy.one.DONT GET ON METHADONE.mentally an physically the older u get youll have so many health problems.

O.M.F.G. COLD TURKEY!?!? Are you INSANE?? your brains not able to handle the stoppage of the serotonin production so suddenly, that's why people do you talk slowly off of opiates and that's why the doctors tell you too. If you do it slowly, your brain will learn to produce it on its own. The best way to stuff is to go down in milligrams until you start to feel sick and then go up 5 and stay there until you're comfortable. Then start going down again until you feel sick again and go up 5 again, and stay and keep doing that until you're down to nothing. You will probably stay somewhere between 3 and 10 milligrams for quite a while, and then stop, but the problem is is that your brain will feel like it NEEDS a pill, or it won't work, even if you just take a sugar pill. It truly is a short of mind f*** at that point, but if you have the will and the determination, you will succeed. A girlfriend of mine (friends for 24 years now--at 19, she got addicted to crack & then heroin really bad for years, went to rehab for over a year got off everything & then ended up on vicodin, taking 11 pills at a time 4 or 5 times a day, & I got her on suboxone to get her off the pills because buying them is just simply too expensive) was on suboxone and knew she did not need it anymore, but still had that paranoia that she would get sick if she didn't take anything, so she would take teeny tiny pieces of a 2 milligram strip, just to ease her anxiety. But then she got pregnant with her daughter and was able to stop completely. So maybe a big change in life so having a child, or moving to a new house, would help you stop completely at the end.I'm also going to share this message on the main page, with a little bit of editing at the beginning.

I took liguid methadone in a small dose because i gave out of my Suboxone. I waited 3weeks before i had a urine test and it still showed up. WHY? !

The question was how long it stays in URINE, not blood. The half life is UP to 60 hours, so unless the parameters of the question are changed (blood versus urine, for instance) that 60 hour half life tells us something. It means for most purposes (conceding there are ALWAYS variables beyond the norm), and conservatively speaking, double the half life should get you a clean result.

i agree with what you said about the methadone, i myself have been on it for like a year and a half now and i am trying to switch over too subutex, so i stopped using the methadone and went back to heroin for like a week but i fear the methadone is still in my system i tried to take a subutex about 96 hours off the methadone and about 24 off the dope and got super sick... when is it safe to try to take the subutex again so i doont have to keep getting high on heroin to get further away from the methaone????

My mom has been taking methadone for 15 years and is no longer taking it how bad and how long will the withdraws last( she's was on 80 mg a day)

I totally agree! I went in methadone to get off of pain pills and was on it for about 6 years. I just stopped taking it 8 days ago. I had come down to 4mgs and assumed I would be fine to just stop. WRONG! I have felt awful the whole time and I still do. I could have came off of pain pills easier. It's so not worth it!

I just got home from a 10 day detox/30 day treatment for methadone. I had been on it for several years. Feeling much worse now. I'm on clonodine and hydroxyzine but I'm so shaky and have insane anxiety. And tips would be helpful. Thanks
