Grommets
UpdatedGrommets for young children, is there an alternative?

Hi Theola,
From what I could gather, there are potential alternatives to grommets for treating middle ear infections, or what's known as "glue ear" / "secretory otitis media".
One possible substitute for grommets that I came across, is an auto-inflation device called the Otovent. Apparently this device works by opening up the Eustachian tubes that link up the middle part of the ear with the back of the throat; and it is this action that is said to help clear glue ear.
The Otovent is something that may also be easily found through various internet retailers (like amazon) under the name "Otovent Glue Ear Treatment".
However, you may still want to talk with your doctor first, just to make sure you understand how to use it properly and how long before you can expect your child to notice some relief.
I hope this info helps to answer your question! Please post back if you have any other questions or comments regarding this.
