Generic Opana Er (Page 3)

Updated

Wanted to share with everyone how happy I am to have finally received the new generic Opana ER 20mg tablets from my pharmacy. I had found Opana to be very effective for my chronic pain and was very sad when they switched it over to the new formula as it wasn't nearly effective as the original octagon shaped tablets and caused stomach aches. These new generic ones seem to me to be as effective as the original formula had been.

The tablets I received show to be made by Global Pharmaceuticals and are a small, round, green tablet with G73 imprinted on them. I'm happy to report that these are just like the original formula. Now I no longer have stomach aches from taking those plastic pills that Endo is selling.

I sure do hope that these remain as they are, but I have read a couple articles that state it may not be too long before the generic tables are switched to the new formula. I hope that never happens as I'm very happy to be back on effective Opana once again - it has been the only medication I've received that allows for me to have a clear head while taking care of my pain.

Best of luck to others in achieving effective pain relief!

This is not true. It depends on which pharmacy you go to. Where I live most of them will fill it with generic Opana with the script wrote Opana but there are a couple said it had to have oxymorphone on the script. So, every place is different. I was told it depended on how it was listed in there data base. You can see that from other CPP that have spoke about it on this forum.

My pain management doc was more than happy to put that generics are okay on my script. My pharmacist said at first that they could fill generics, but they changed their minds the next time I came in. Now they are saying that my insurance will not reimburse them if they fill an opana script with generics. They also played the "they don't have generics for that dosage" card. Unfortunately, I cannot find out from the insurance company what they will reimburse for either Opana or the Generic. It is secured information between the pharmacy and the insurance company. Anyone else come across this problem?

MC Fisher,

Hello and thanks for your descriptive posts of the 'new' oxymorphone formulation. I am glad that they work so well for you. I see that many of these posts are from the beginning of 2103, it is now almost 2014 and my PM doc recently prescribed these to me. I have not had the opportunity to take the rubbery, plastic version that I have heard about, thank god/dess!! They are better than any long acting, extended release, medication that I have ever taken!

I was taking Morphine for a couple of years and my previous PM doc would simply up the dosage thinking I was crazy because they did not do the trick. Then on the Fentanyl trans-dermal patch for another year, with the dosage occasionally increased, which worked pretty good except if I 'ruined' one patch it would be three days of medication GONE, so I decided to change doctors... My new PM doc kept me on what the previous one did in the beginning [to 'get a feel for me' I reckon], with the exception of increasing my short term, break through medication. As my previous doc had done, he wanted to increase my Fentanyl dosage and I thought, "Not again...", so I asked him if there were any other options for an extended release medication. He asked if I had taken Dilaudid, Morphine, Methadone or Oxycontin in the past and as I previously mentioned, just the Morphine (MS Contin) on a regular basis and when I was given Dilaudid in the hospital it made me super loopy. I actually told him that the Morphine was like taking placebo because I still could barely walk unless I took my short term medication, which still only gave me less than an hour window with a slight limp with a walking stick ((he looked up from his clipboard with one eyebrow raised like he was going to send me to the Mental Ward!)

He did decide to send me to the Behavioral Health Psychology center, but it is not like a Psychiatrist's office, they actually helped with my psychological problems such as borderline personality disorder, night terrors/sleep problems and PTSD, to name the most prominent)) Anyways ? I told this new doc that I wanted the spinal stimulator, he wanted to be sure that it wasn't depression making my pain worse... So he said that we could try a different 'molecule', which I did not understand. This is when he said that Opana would be a good option. He started me on two 20mg per day along with my regular breakthrough meds. I love this new doctor! This is the best pain medication I have ever taken and I can still function mentally throughout the day! I can walk for a short amount of time,-around the apartment-to the bathroom and back-to check the mail on the front porch-, and for about 20 minutes at a time to do things standing still like washing dishes and cooking. Before I had to use my walking stick just to go to the bathroom and could not stand up still but for about 5 minutes at a time without crying in pain.

So, in conclusion (I know I am a big windbag! lol), I am ecstatic about this medication and do not want to change. However, I had a concern: People build up a tolerance to pain medication and it can stop working as well as it did in the past, this is why doctors will increase the dosage. I wonder if anyone has ever asked their doctor to alternate between two meds to keep the tolerance new and to a minimum. I was going to ask if he would change me every six months from the Opana to the Fentanyl to the Opana, etc... I do not know if this is even a legitimate question.. He may laugh me out of his office! One thing he did tell me was that the extent of my nerve damage that even if I had the spinal cord stimulator implanted, I would still need to take pain medication because it is not going to relieve all of my pain. Now I do not even think I want the surgery, that is how all of my problems started! Briefly-I had a lower lumbar spinal fusion in April 2011, between then and July 2012 the cage between my vertebrae shifted 50% to the left and is now weighing down on my L5 nerve. (Surgeon who put it there has moved his practice, new surgeon, highest recommended in area, will not touch it) They can not do surgery to move the cage because of the high risk involved of severing that nerve. So they suggest medication until the nerve is completely dead or naturally severed by that stupid cage, I reckon... *rolls eyes* I wish I had called the Laser Spine Institute!!

I know this is an old forum but I found it by Googling, maybe someone else will too!

Thanks for reading,

Lavindyre

Sorry to hear the pain and trouble finding a pm would trust & help you with your needs
About the tolerance its not a wrong thing to ask to switch you back every few month in my case i think after almost 5 years i found the best PM doctor who wants to help me not insult me
He is giving Oxymorphone ER 30mg and oxycodone 30mg he told me i csn take them with my judgement and i can switch on my own every week to stop building tolerance means i take the oxymorphone for a week & second week i use my oxycodone so they always work 100% so he let me have the right amount with my injuries and he told me few ways of how take them to get the best result so its your pain and i see nothing wrong asking your doc to give you #2 different medications and either u change them weekly or on weekends which works perfect for me no pain and no sick feeling also by this method i never really build a high tolerance on one med
Good luck and hope things work well
Remember you have the pain nd your doc should understand ur needs also they are all aware of the way ur body get used to one med so fast so u actually asking for a right way tto manage ur pain without the need of doubling ur med every 2-3 months

Hi, I was recently taken off methadone after almost 2 yrs and my doctor decided to switch me to opana er 20mg. Only I have the same negative side effects with the plastic formulated ones. (Ie. E 20) I have been goin back n forth with my pharmacist trying to explain to them about the G73 brand, but I am getting nowhere..today my pharmacist mentioned to me that if I were able provide them with the NDC # for the G73s, they would be able to order them for me. And I am in chronic pain everyday. The NDC # should be located on your prescription label, per my pharmacist. If there is anyway you are able to provide me with this information, I would be forever grateful.

The NDC# for Oxymorphone ER 20mg, G73 pills from Global Pharmaceuticals is NDC 0115-1316-13 for a bottle of 60. A bottle of 100 has an NDC of 0115-1316-01. And a bottle of 1000 has an NDC of 0115-1316-03. I hope this helps you. Info comes from

I wish that were true, Timmy. Walgreens even have signs posted that state they reserve the right to refuse to fill your prescription. I am middle-aged, normal looking and I get treated like I walked in with a needle hanging out of my arm.

I finally did find a small pharmacy where the owner sometimes will get me the generic version of Opana. Sometimes he doesn't - for whatever reason. Besides the fact that they don't work as well for me, the brand is so much more expensive too. The brand also upsets my stomach.

If I wasn't in such pain all the time, I would give up on pain medication entirely. It just isn't worth all the hassle.
I don't really have a choice though. It's allow myself to be immobile and usually in bed or take medication and somewhat function.

Walgreens should be sued for their universal way of treating people like s*** and lying about everything. I get the g73 opana, yes they are better than the info plastic discs, but I don't find them the same as the old green/yellow stop sign octagon 20/40 mg er made by end.I get stomachs cramps and nausea, takes forever to kick in,I pass the pill undigested once in awhile also. Any pharmacy can order any class 2 medication,if they say no they are lying due to profit mmotivation. They are a business after all,and not there to jus st hand out drugs.

I have been on the 40mg Er for 3 years the old ones, the plastic ones, then I went to a 30mg couldn't find them anywhere, so they put me on the 20mg opana er, I was shocked that I received the new ones the generic, the ones can be crushed or chewed I personally don't like doing that, I take it whole these new ones the 20mg are small green with G73 and clear on the other side, I'm not sure but when I started these this morning they made me sleepy and I went to sleep on it, I don't know why either cause the old plastic gel opana never made me go to sleep, but these new generic opanas make me pass out, has anybody had this experience with these new chewable crushable generic 20mgs opana er????????

I'm on 40mg generic it's orange"G74"
I tried the old one and new plastic one as well, the generic gives me a get up and go feeling but the plastic one made me lazy! But if i double my dose on these generic one then I get sleepy it works way faster than plastic one so maybe thats why you feel sleepy so try take less amount one time and if that helps you can switch to 10 or 15mg ex: instead of take 2x20mg daily take 4x10mg daily a other thing I dont know if you have anything for break though as I take Oxycodone 30mgx4 daily but if i take both kind together i get really sleepy so i make sure i put at least 1-2 hours between the Opana(Oxymorphone) and Oxycodone
