Is it ok to drink wine while taking this medication? ## No. Alcohol will only add to the rapid heart beat associated with this drug, and shortness of breath and general feelings of discomfort will follow. Gabapentin is useful in small doses for peripheral neuropathies and certain epilepsies, but side effects abound ~ many of which are life threatening. ## I'm not sure what Jim means by many of them being life threatening. Jim can you please post back with more precise details? As to the problems with alcohol, it's really that it can cause an aggravation of all of the side effects, so you may feel more nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and etc. than you would otherwise. Learn more Gabapentin details here. ## It's not a good idea to mix alcohol with any medication. With gabapentin...

My husband was recently prescribed gabapentin 300 mg 1 cap at night for neuropathy. He took it one time and drank a beer about 3;00am the nest day around noon his face began to swell up on both sides and his mouth on the inside went numb. He took benedryl but continued to have swelling even 24 hours later. Could this be an allergic reaction? Thank you. Jan ## Almost certainly, seek medical advice without delay; allergies can be fatal. ## Hi Jan, The US National Library of Medicine states that facial swelling is in fact an allergic reaction associated with Gabapentin on the following page: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMHT0010419/?report=details#side_effects Ironically, they also list facial swelling as an allergic reaction to Benadryl, but seeing as he took Gabapentin first, this sound...

Does the cream actually go through your bloodstream? I have taken Gabapentin in the past which started out okay for a while, but then I had an issue with it & went off the pill form of the medication. I was told since it doesn't go through your bloodstream that the cream should be fine. Please let me know what you think and also if you know whether it's true about it not going into your bloodstream and causing any of the same side effects as the pill form. Thank you. ## Hello, Diane! How are you? A little does, but just trace amounts, not any significant amount that should cause side effects or reactions. Most of the reactions to these topical creams are limited to skin irritation wherever you applied it. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Thank you, that helped me q...

Since taking this drug for a week I have a mouth full of many lesions or canker sores can this be connected with this drug. It is quite severe the cancers or ulcers are the size of a Nicole each one and there must be over 10. Extremely sore. Salt water rinse every two hours and medicated numbing liquid like a mouth wash so I can eat once a day. Hello of a diet. Went off the meds for now. My mouth is just too sore ## Hi, Sherril! Sorry about how miserable you are, that's quite awful. From what I can find, it has been reported that Gabapentin can do this, though it is a very rare side effect. Have you consulted your doctor? There are other medications you can try that may not cause this problem, such as Lyrica. Learn more Lyrica details here. Sometimes one medication just doesn't ...

what is the differnce of these two medications, bothe seem to make me very sleepy aand hard to walk is this normal.. i do not like this drug. ## What is the difference in Gabapentin 300 Mg Apo,Gabapentin 300 Mg Cap Teva My pharmacy gave me the first one then my refill was the 2nd one. ## The only difference is in the manufacturer, APO Pharmaceuticals made the first prescription you got and Teva manufactures the second one. Otherwise they are completely the same. Gabapentin is a generic for Neurontin, this is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain. Common side effects may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and peripheral edema. You can read more here: Do you have any other questions? ## Thanks so much for the answer. I’m in New Zealand. My usual funded Gabapentin has changed drug company, to a funded APOTEX Gabapentin. Anyone taking the same stuff. I was on 200mg capsules. These new APO ones are 300mg. The pharmacy told me they had changed but did not mention the mg had changed. Meaning I’m taking 500mg extra per day. BUT even though I’m on a bigger dosage they don’t seem to be working.

I just took my second dose of gabapentin 100 mgs this morning. I was also prescribed hydrocodone 10/325. Is it safe for me to take the hydrocodone if it has been eight hours ago since I took the gabapentin? I know it takes a long time for gabapentin to get out of your system and I can't be too safe when mixing medications. Thanks in advance to any help I get. ## It should be okay to take them together, if they have both been prescribed for you. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and mood changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Will I get the same level of pain relief from stopping norco 10-325 mg and starting 300 mg gabapentin? ## If it were me it wouldn't, but everyone's different. I'm looking for a pain doctor in Burlington Vermont. I have peripheral neuropathy in my feet and rheumatoid arthritis. The doctors just give me gabapentin which does nothing for the nerve pain. ## Hello, I don't live in your area but I can at least give you a link to a website that lists all the doctors in your area and from there you might find one that works best for you. [1] Pain Management Specialists near Burlington, VT I hope this helps. Please feel free to let me know if none of these doctors work out for you and I can help you expand the search and find some doctors who might be further away but work better for you. ## I have been to Dr. Pino twice and he just gives the spinal inj's., all of the pain clinics around here just do that. I take Gabapentin and have some Stacker 2. They are purple and yellow. I want to know if I can mix them together like hours apart? Thank you. ## Hello Sissy, Unfortunately I don't think that is a very good idea. The reason for this is that stacker 2 pills active ingredient is caffeine which negatively interacts with gabapentin. According to the NIH gabapentins medical properties diminish when caffeine is introduced. They write the following "the combination with caffeine can reduce gabapentin’s anticonvulsant effects.83,84 Furthermore, caffeine was able to decrease the electroconvulsive threshold, previously augmented by gabapentin at a 200 mg/kg dose; the rise in threshold induced by another dose of gabapentin (23.1 mg/kg) can only be decreased by the administration of ch...

Is there any way to get Gabapentin in less than 100 mg pills? I have a method on weaning off from 1,200 mg a day to 100 mg total (talking to the doctor when it’s time to take 2 xs a day instead of 3 xs). ## I’m well aware that there are multiple phases during withdrawals. The first phase took 10 days for Gabapentin to equalize in my body. A week afterwards I had 2 days of Hot night sweats but was done with withdrawals after that. (At least until I lower my dose). Please respond so this can stay active and can let you know my method of weaning off safely. ## Hi Grayman, You may have success inquiring about different dosages with a local compounding pharmacy who could formulate something more suitable for your needs... However, I'm not quite sure how much it would cost and...

I took 1mg of Xanax and 3mg of Suboxone; I've been used to taking this for 5 years and I wanted to get off of Xanax, so I took Gabapentin 300mg. An hour later I took 1mg of Suboxone. Now I feel lightheaded and my blood pressure is a little high. Should I be worried? ## Gabapentin is not an opiate, so it should not cause a problem with the Suboxone, according to FDA reports. How high was your blood pressure? Gabapentin is also not a replacement for Xanax, so if you stopped taking the Xanax abruptly, that could have cause these issues. How are you doing, now? Has there been any change? ## I just took my dose of xanax, gabapentin, and suboxone about two hours ago and now I’m feeling wrecked. F*** Xanax.

My doctor has prescribed me gabapentin 300 mg capsules. for nerve pain in my back. I'm a little confused on how to take it. He said that I can increase my dose. Does this mean that I can take two at time since one isn't helping? I only take it at night when my pain is at its worst. ## I am on same meds i take 3 of those a night ## Our doctor, who is a prof at Duke says you can take up to 2700 Mg a day. A pain specialist we also had stated that if you are taking for example 1800 Mg per day to take one 600 in morning and two 600 at night. Both said not to take major steps over 300 or 600 Mg each week, and I did find that when I upped it or took it down that had to do it slowly. I have been taking 1800 Mg for 7 years now for shingle pain that took out the nerves in my face. ## I ha...

I am trying to wean off of gabapentin, but the worst part is the itching, and the crazy restlessness at night. I’m taking one a day at 300 mg in the evening. By the time evening comes again the itching starts happening. How do I wean off this/300 mg a day, and is there anything I can take for the itching. I did start taking magnesium a couple days ago. I was on it for about 4 to 5 weeks, at 1800 mg a day. No one told me to not go cold turkey, so I did and that was a horrible week. So I went back to taking one a day and I want to get off of these now. ## This medication comes in lower dosages, so you could speak to your doctor about using 100mg capsules, or tablets to help you taper off of it. The FDA warns that other withdrawal effects may include nausea, dizziness, depression, an...

Hi, I've been on Gabapentin about two years, but recently the Dr. increased the dose to 300 mg three times a day...for anxiety. I have been only trying to take it every other day instead. On the off days, I feel crummy. But if i took it daily, then the eventual withdrawal would be horrendous from what I've read. Besides that, I'd build up a tolerance to it pretty quickly and wouldn't be as effective in a short amount of time. Does anyone else take it every other day instead of daily? ## Gabapentin has a short half life of 5 to 7 hours; that’s why it’s typically prescribed 3 times a day and sometimes 4 times a day. Skipping dosages and taking it every other day can cause interdosage withdrawals when you're late on your dosage or skip a day. Gabapentin is a...

I have "gle" on my prescription. It literally says "Gabapentin 600mg TAB GLE". It normally says Gabapentin 600mg TAB MET. I believe it's the abbreviation for the manufacturer, but I'd like to be sure before I take them, as they are a different shape. ## Hi Pattie, My research leads me to believe that GLE stands for Glenmark Pharmaceuticals or Glenmark Generics, the packager/manufacturer of your Gabapentin. Would one dose of 300 mg or is this more of a therapeutic drug that time to see any effect? ## Hello, Stacey! How are you? This capsule is manufactured by Aurobindo Pharma and they list it as containing 300mgs of Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that is also used to treat certain types of nerve pain. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. So no, it is not an actual analgesic and must be taken regularly for 4 to 5 weeks, before you will know whether or not it will help you. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Would this capsule cause swelling of the calf and ankle in both llegs?

Does taking gabapentin 300mg cause a positive opioid result in a urine drug screen? ## will gabapentin show up on a 13 panel drug test for my job? ## In a word, NO. Gabapentin (Pfizer NEURONTIN) is a GABAergic drug used in neuropathic pain, epilepsy and it's stronger sister, pregabalin (Pfizer LYRICA) has been approved for use in Generalised Anxiety Disorder. They work on the GABAa and GABAb receptors and do not affect the mu opioid receptors at all, containing nothing which could possibly be confused with any opiate or opioid. ## Took a half of gabapentin 600 mg and my po stopped by to get a urine sample...will it show up as a dirty screen? ## Will 300mg gabapentin show up in an employment drug test?

The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings, and weight changes. ## There's an article published on the Mayo Clinic website from August 2017 that says "While gabapentin hasn't been approved by the FDA for the treatment of fi...
