Gabapentin Vs. Topamax

Hi I have been on Gabapentin for a month. The highest dose I could tolerate is 900mg a day. The problem is the drug has had no effect on my pain. I have tried to go up in dosage to possible get some pain relief, but I am retaining fluid at higher doses and I have Congestive Heart Failure, so this is a no-no. So..... The pain clinic wants to switch me to Topamax. Any experience or comments.

Just keep in mind that not everyone experiences side effects, since everyone's body chemistry is different. Someone else's experience isn't really a viable way to determine how the medication will effect you personally.

Thanks for the help. I have been reading extensively on the internet about Topamax and this is one drug I am a bit scared to take. I am starting tonight at 25mg. The pain clinic wants me off the opioids onto some other pain killer, but I am getting kinda ticked off. I do not want to deal with the side effects of new drugs that could make my QOL worse.

The neurtion is a great medicine for nerve pain I take it in a tablet form so I can break it apart it does help with nerve pain as I said I have had two back surgeries the last I had to have cadavar dowels put in me and plates and screws in my back so I tried it when I had that surgery but then I have lung cancer on the right side and had to have half my lung taken out then I was dignosed with breast cancer on the left breast and now I have half my breast and under went radiation which I thought I was going to die from the burns that I had to go to the e.r and the dr there perscribed me the.stuff they use on burn patients then I started taking the neurotin and it helped with nerve pain in my back,lung,legs and breast it acts like a nerve medicine on me calms me down and calms the nerve pain also.If I were you I would take it it is a great med.
