alcohol and Gabapentin

Does anyone drink beer or other alcohol while taking this? I start on it tonight, increasing every 5 days to 900 mg total a day. I'm curious as to how much alcohol can be tolerated and if there are any reasons to avoid it completely. I like my Budweiser. Thanks for any input. ## Alcohol should be avoided while using this medication, especially at such a high dosage, because it can aggravate the side effects, making them much more problematic. These can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and peripheral edema. You can read more on it here: Do you have any other questions? ## what are the bad things with this drug and alcohol? ## I've taken 3600mg of Gabapentin each day for 21 months now! I drink alcohol with them & feel ok. I would just say that the Gabapentin alone will l...

Hi, I have ex-stream pain under my rib cage, just did cat scan and won't be able to see dr. till monday, I can't sleep and in constant pain day and night, can I take together gabapentin (I take for my neuropathy daily) and Naproxen for shoulder inflammation and hydrocodon-acedaminophen 5-325 or even Tramadol 50 mg tablets and be safe for the pain? Thank you ## Hi tcats, Sorry to hear about your level of pain. From what I could gather, the Naproxen should be fine. However, according to umm.edu's drug interaction checker, there are drug interactions listed between the combination of Gabapentin and Hydrocodone, stating that taking the two together may decrease Hydrocodone's effectiveness. They don't go into any specific details determining why this is the case, but you ...

how long does it take gabapentin to get out of your system

i was taking 300 mg neurontin . 1 in am 1 at noon and 2 at bedtime. I was prescribed the med in May of 2013. Increased later when not helping with foot numbness. It has been almost 2 weeks since i tapered myself off of the drug and i still feel nausea in the am which effects my eating. Please advise how long it will take this med to be out of my system. Thank You ## Hi Cindy, Sorry to hear about the nausea you've been experiencing lately. From what I've been researching, in most cases it usually ends up being around 2 to 5 days for this type of medication to clear your system. However because you've been taking it for about a year, I'd imagine your body could still probably use some time to get accustomed to not having it on a regular basis. One study I found mentioned t...

how would I know if it contains gluten ## Hello, Peggy! How are you? What are the markings on the Gabapentin that you've received from your pharmacy? That would enable me to check the ingredients for you. The FDA classifies this medication as being an anticonvulsant that is also used to treat certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain.

buzzing in head
2 Replies RSS
I have been taking 300 mg of Gabapentin for the past eight months and I now have a very bad buzzing in my head. It has been getting worse in the past couple of months. I quit taking the drug for five days but it didn't seem to matter. ## Hello, Bordy! How are you? Tinnitus has been reported as a possible side effect of Gabapentin, as listed by the FDA, along with nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, good swings and weight changes. Have you consulted your doctor? You may need to switch to a different medication to see if it goes away. They may also want to evaluate your hearing, to see if the problem is due to the medication or something else. Is this the only medication that you take? ## This is my only medication. Thank you for the response.

effectiveness long term?

I was just put on the gabapentin 100mg 3x daily for severe leg and hip pain. I also take tylenyol with codeine at night. Do the side effects wear off of drowsiness/dizziness? My pain comes from spinal stenosis of the lumbar, and osteoarthritis. I am hoping this will will be a long term fix as nothing else has been. I am still in need of working and have not been able to due to all my ailments. ## Hello, Debra! How are you? Yes, such side effects are usually transient and should taper off, eventually going away entirely, once your body gets used to the medication. However, if your dosage is raised in the future, you should expect to experience them again for a few weeks. You may also experience dizziness, dry mouth, weight changes and mood swings, as listed by the FDA among its common si...

Gabapentin-Nerve pain in legs because of Spinal Stenosis
3 Replies RSS
I have been reading some of the discussion threads and really would love your advice. So back in 2012 I slipped two discs with one that had a tear and I have spinal stenosis. Had wonderful docs that helped me get back to some since of normalcy. I had used Gabapentin for a period of time, then came off of it once I had an injection for my right leg nerve pain and numbness. Just a note, I have never been 100 percent probably not even 75 percent. There were times when the pain in my back was so bad, I would would just be angry. A second MRI was done last year and they told me I was not a candidate for surgery and gave me other suggestions like yoga, etc. That proved to be more harmful then good. Through it all I have tried to maintain some sort of life style and dealt with the pain with Ic...

How Long Does Gabapentin Stay In Your System
30 Replies RSS
how long does gabapentin 900mg stay in your system? ## Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and mood disorders and, as such, it is not a substance that is tested for on standard drug tests. However, the half-life for your body to process it out is from 5 to 7 hours and total elimination time is usually 5 to 6 half-lives, so you'd be looking at 30 to 42 hours for it to be processed out of your body entirely. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have a drug test this afternoon n i took a 300mg gabapentin last night...will i pass a urine test today... ## I know it's late but gabapentin is not a controlled substance therefore is not tested for on any drug screenings. ## I have be...

is it ok to take 500mg methacarbam and 100mg gabapentin together
1 Reply RSS
I ran out of my tramadol was wondering if could be take the gabapentin in its place with my methacarbam muscle relaxants ? ## Hello, Slo! How are you? Gabapentin is not an actual analgesic, so it won't work like the Tramadol. As classified by the FDA, it's actually an anticonvulsant that can also help with some types of nerve pain and some mood disorders, but it must be taken for 4 to 6 weeks, before it will reach its full level of efficacy in the body and alleviate pain. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. Tramadol, however, is an opioid analgesic that carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth and constipation. Methocarbamol is a muscle r...

I am now taking 7 x 300 gabapentin per day and am getting terrible eye problems: double and blurred vision, I am also sufering unnerving confusion, could it be a side effect of the gabapentin? ## It doesn't seem from the monograph listing, that these are common side effects: Gabepentin Side-Effect Info Click Here I would suggest you speak to your doctor and discuss this as soon as possible, it could be this drug, an illness, or a combo if you are taking something else. ## I get blurred vision with only 2 300 Mg's ## I have been taking 2400 mg (eight 300-mg tablets) a day of gabapentin for more than a year. Gabapentin 300 capsules do they contain a corn or soy fillers or binders ## Hi Brenda, Because there are a number of manufacturers who produce this drug (e.g. Actavis, Pfizer, Teva, etc), you would need to provide us with the exact imprint on the capsule in order to determine if "your specific capsule" of Gabapentin contains such ingredients. Just at a glance, I did see that both Actavis and Pfizer's 300mg Gabapentin lists corn starch as the second inactive ingredient used in its composition, but nothing in particular that mentioned soy. I hope this helps!

My wife needs 6% Gabapentin in a neutral crème. Do you know where I can fill a prescription for this in a tube. The local pharmacy compounds this for her but charges too much. She has vulvydenia and uses this to reduce pain. Thanks ## Hello, Look I use Gabapentin Crème. Your doctor can give you samples and find you a pharmacy that accepts your insurance. Can i take 500mg methocarbamal and 300mg gabapentin and what are the side effects ## Hi babygurl, According to umm.edu's drug interaction checker, there are no interactions listed between Methocarbamol and Gabapentin. However, cross referencing this on other webpages has brought up a notation about Methocarbamol and Gabapentin potentially causing an increase in certain side effects, such as an impaired cognitive function, dizziness, and drowsiness. Other than that, it seems to me like there shouldn't be any complications outside of their own individual list of side effects. Furthermore, in the event that you ever did experience these side effects (knock on wood) you can always work with your doctor on developing a dosing schedule that helps minimize this risk of interaction betw...
