trazadone withdrawal
1 Reply RSS
I need to stop taking Trazadone prior to having a myleogram. I have to go three nights without it and I am very worried about withdrawal symptoms and lack of sleep. I have a pacemaker, high blood pressure, and a rare blood disorder called PNH. I recently ran out of Gabapentin and had severe withdrawal. I thought I going to die! BP went to 180/111, heart rate was irratic going from 38 bpm to 125 then back to my 100% paced rate of 60 over and over for hours. Is there something else that I can take that will offset the withdrawal symptoms but not interfer with the myleogram? ## Hi Butz, Have you ever considered looking into kratom as an option? My findings suggest that it could possibly help with at least some of the problems mentioned above. Antidepressant + Improves Blood Circulation [1]...

Gabapentin Side effects?
10 Replies RSS
I started taking gabapentin 300mg daily 4 days ago and last night had some strange side effects. The first night I took it right before bed so had no side effects but was very groggy in the morning. The to next two nights I had this almost drunk feeling come over me, almost exactly 2 hours after taking the pill both nights. I was mentally impaired but had a kind of heavy head feeling and some slight tingling as I would if I were to drink. It passed and I was fine. Then yesterday I woke up pain free for the first time, and took the med for the fourth night and like clock work 2 hours later that feeling came over me and then I got double vision, trouble concentrating talking a ton, it makes me feel very uppity. Then I got this hot tingling down my back starting at the base of my skull dow...

what is the difference between gabapentin rx and otc gaba
7 Replies RSS
I want to know the difference between GABAPENTIN a RX and OTC GABA? ## Hello, Pamela! How are you? There are two completely different substances. The FDA classifies Gabapentin as an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain and some mood disorders. It requires a doctor's prescription and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, mood swings and weight gain. A sudden withdrawal may also create the risk of seizures. The Gaba that you see available over the counter, however, is just a nutritional supplement. The full name for it is actually Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid. It is just an amino acid. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I think I have convinced myself that it helps me to a nice calmness in the evening! My husband takes RX for $$...

Expired Gabapentin 300 mg
1 Reply RSS
I found a bottle of my Gabapentin dated 3/8/2011. Should I throw them away or can i take them cause i no longer have insurance? ## This medication does not become dangerous, once expired, but it can lose efficacy, so it may not work as well as it did, when it was new. Thus it would be best to dispose of it and see a doctor for a new prescription. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, mood swings, and weight gain. Is there anything else I can help with?

Gabapentin shaking
1 Reply RSS
My husband takes 2700 mg a day. Since his dose has been upped that high he has been experiencing severe shaking and tremors. His heart races and his muscles twitch as well. You can visibly see his body shaking. It is a constant state, not something that comes and goes. His doctor has yet to return his phone call. Has this happened to anyone else? ## Those can be side effects, especially at such a high dose, according to the NIH. He may also experience dizziness, nausea, weight gain, mood swings, and delusions. How long has he been taking this dose? Is he on any other medications? Has he heard from his doctor, yet?

Suffering with Gabapentin
7 Replies RSS
I began taking Gabapentin for terrible nerve pain, tingling, and numbness in both legs, from the thigh to the knee, particularly when I'm lying down. I also feel one arm go completely numb when I keep it raised for any period of time. Example: holding up my Kindle to read, or my phone to play Words With Friends. My internist prescribed it for me after I told him the pain was unbearable, and keeping me up at night. The side effects began once I had titrated up to my full dose of 300 mg., 3 times a day, for a total of 900 mg. The side effects were terrible. The dizziness and double vision got worse and worse with each passing day. Some days I was terribly nauseous, and most of the time, towards evening, I developed a raging headache. There were days I knew it was unsafe to drive. I ha...

Withdrawing from Gabapentin after only 15 days
4 Replies RSS
prescribed gabapentin for fantom tooth pain. started at 100 mg for 5 days then upped to 200 mg. after 4 days at 200 mg started having constipation and lower back and side pain. At the fifteenth day I dropped the dose back to 100 mg and would like to get. completely off it. How should I proceed. ## Hello, Joel! How are you? The FDA classifies Gabapentin as an anticonvulsant that can also help with certain types of nerve pain, so it's not addictive like a narcotic would be and after only 15 days at such low doses, you can most likely just stop it, as long as our doctor approves. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, mood swings and weight changes. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Vermon, Thanks for the information. gabapentin and ocular problems

I've been taking gabapentin about 9 mo now 300 mg nightly for hot flashes. But I noticed the last few months I was having vision problems. Dx as ocular migraines. Anyone else having these problems from this drug ## Hello, Clbark! How are you doing? I'm sorry about the problem that you're having. If you read over the details side effects provided by the FDA, this medication has been known to cause many visual issues, as well as nausea, weight gain, mood swings and alopecia. Have you spoken to your doctor about trying a different medication? Tapering off of this one and trying something else would enable you to discover if your problem is solely due to this drug. Gabapentin and Subutex breathing problems
8 Replies RSS
So, I started taking subutex, now up to 16mg, and gabapentin 900mg x3 daily. I’ve been to the ER twice in one week. I have episodes feeling like I can't breath. Even though I am getting oxygen, my brain is telling me it’s not enough. I feel like I'm suffocating. I stopped taking gabapentin a week ago, even stopped subutex 16mg for 2 days. Still my breathing doesn't feel right. I just don't feel like myself. I’ve been back on subutex for 2 days. Has anybody felt this way on subutex? I have had an EKG twice, blood work, chest xray, cat scan of neck to check for blockage. I do have high blood pressure and I am wondering if the subutex is restricting my vessels causing decreased blood flow, not carrying enough oxygenated blood to my heart. Does anybody have...

Is the Gabapentin affecting my eyes?
77 Replies RSS
I am now taking 7 x 300 gabapentin per day and am getting terrible eye problems: double and blurred vision, I am also sufering unnerving confusion, could it be a side effect of the gabapentin? ## It doesn't seem from the monograph listing, that these are common side effects: Gabepentin Side-Effect Info Click Here I would suggest you speak to your doctor and discuss this as soon as possible, it could be this drug, an illness, or a combo if you are taking something else. ## I get blurred vision with only 2 300 Mg's ## I have been taking 2400 mg (eight 300-mg tablets) a day of gabapentin for more than a year. I have a lot of double vision, though only when I'm tired (which is most of the time). Of course, I take a few other sedating medications as well. I've gotten used to ...

Rumoquin NF drug interactions
2 Replies RSS
Is this drug safe to take with gabapentin 600 mg? Also what dosage? How often can it be taken? ## Does Rumoquin N.F. interact with Metoprolol 25 mg or Atorvastatin 40 mg ## @Brownie, Rumoquin NF contains a combination of diclofenac, methocarbamol and dexamethasone. Because these are all prescribed drugs, the doctor who is prescribing them to you should be aware of anything else you are taking alongside them. If your doctor didn't give you any dosing advice, I would recommend calling him/her asap. Ironically, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center ( / drug interaction tool), diclofenac and dexamethasone have a "high interaction potential"; that is to say it is NOT recommended you take them together, which I find odd since they are both included in the s...

what if the prescribed amount is not working
15 Replies RSS
I am prescribed gabapentin 300mg capsule and 400mg capsule. I'm supposed to take two 300mg twice a day for 7 days. Then one 400mg twice a day for however long. Today I've taken three 300mg and one 400mg and its not helping. Am I taking to much? Will this hurt me or possibly overdose me? please help. ## Nope. One distance advantage of Gabapentin is you can take very high doses, some people take thousands of mgs in a day, and you almost never reach an OD effect. However, if you are thinking this is a pain pill or something that should give you some results or effects right away soon after you take it, you are misinformed. This is actually a drug that was approved for us to prevent epilepsy seizures and was shown to help with some types of nerve pain, so it is not a pain killer and...

How Long Does Gabapentin Stay In Your System
85 Replies RSS
how long does gabapentin 900mg stay in your system? ## Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has also been shown to help with certain types of nerve pain and mood disorders and, as such, it is not a substance that is tested for on standard drug tests. However, the half-life for your body to process it out is from 5 to 7 hours and total elimination time is usually 5 to 6 half-lives, so you'd be looking at 30 to 42 hours for it to be processed out of your body entirely. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I have a drug test this afternoon n i took a 300mg gabapentin last night...will i pass a urine test today... ## I know it's late but gabapentin is not a controlled substance. ## I have been taking gabapenton for about three months. gabapentin 3000 mg side effects
7 Replies RSS
I'm on 3000 mg a day and have been for 6 months for back pain. It affects me in various ways...forgetfulness, agitated but it helps with pain, is anyone else on this dose? ## That's the highest dose I've ever seen. I'm on 1200 mg and have a lot of forgetfulness that it worries me. I'm also very " whatever " about things. Don't care to workout. Just sad. ## Hello, Lisa! How are you? Yes, doses this high are not commonly used, anymore… though they were back when this medication was new to the market and the reason the higher ones aren't used much anymore is due to the issues you and Heather have stated. There is also a risk of your experiencing a seizure, if you miss a dose or stop it suddenly. Other typical side effects, as listed by the FDA may ...

Sides effects of Gabapentin in the elderly
7 Replies RSS
Dr. gave me 300mg of gabapentin today for back & sciatic nerve pain what effects have anyone had from this drug? Good 0r Bad ## The elderly are naturally more prone to experiencing side effects from medications, because their bodies tend to be more sensitive to them, so there's a good chance that you'll experience some side effects. The most common ones to Gabapentin are nausea, dizziness, weight changes and mood changes. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Does anyone have any experiences to share? ## I was going insane with pain and after trying all levels of opiates, gabapentin (300 mgm 3 x/day) made my life bearable until I had my knee replacement. side effects of gabapentin

Is it ok to drink wine while taking this medication? ## No. Alcohol will only add to the rapid heart beat associated with this drug, and shortness of breath and general feelings of discomfort will follow. Gabapentin is useful in small doses for peripheral neuropathies and certain epilepsies, but side effects abound ~ many of which are life threatening. ## I'm not sure what Jim means by many of them being life threatening. Jim can you please post back with more precise details? As to the problems with alcohol, it's really that it can cause an aggravation of all of the side effects, so you may feel more nausea, dizziness, drowsiness and etc. than you would otherwise. Learn more Gabapentin details here. ## It's not a good idea to mix alcohol with any medication. With gabapentin...

gabapentin side effects rapid pulse from 85 to 105 at rest. Usually 60-70 at rest. ## And how are you feeling right now ? Did you notice these effects every time you took the Gabapentin ? Rapid heart beat is not specifically listed as a side effect of this medication, however there are other side effects which may be related ... such as dizziness, tremor, nausea, blurred vision. Have you had any of these? Medications which have a neurological effect on the body can certainly come with their own complications. Can you talk about any other details of your experience with this? ## The heart rate remains the same, but I feel better anxiety-wise, which is why I was prescribed it. Steill, I', concerned about the increased heart rate. The doctors say wait and see. Thanks ## Yes, I am exper...

Im terrified to start the Gabapentin for spinal and nerve pain. Im afraid i will have a reaction to it . Its 300 mg every 8 hrs. Any advice or reassurance . ## Sara It's surprising that you can tolerate tramadol since that's very similar to the NSAID family. One would think tramadol would cause the same effects that NSAIDs do.Gabapentin is a drug extremely effective for nerve pain unfortunately it has a host of side effect that many find bothersome. But If your prescriber believes it effective, he knows ...
