Flomax, tamsulosin, And My 22 Yrs Of History Of Bph.

Updated

OK guys, gals, ladies, and, gentlemen. I have been taking Flomax, starting in 1996, or since it's release, and at that time, depended on samples from my primary care doctor, because, at that time flomax was 100$ for 30 capsules.

Then, when my insurance started paying, the generic Tamsulosin was released, and to date I have remained on this medication for bph, and prior to 1996 Hytrin was prescribed, which also worked for me. For 22 years I have had to take something for bph and I'm now 60 yrs old. OK, I said all that to say on this.

For 20 yrs I've taken FLOMAX 0.4 MG Capsules, and never had any side effects, but on 1 or 2 occasions, I ran out and was off for maybe a week before I could not urinate, and had immense pain trying, and desperately was ready to rob a pharmacy to get that Flomax into my system again. That is not an event I ever want to experience again.

My opinion it's a safe proven medication, and I get a 3 month supply to prevent taking any chances of repeated issues. I can't speak for anyone else that I know that takes this medication, however, I talk every month during monthly appmts, at my pcp's office, and all the men my age never mentioned anything concerning. All the previous posts I've read re: flomax or its generic counterpart.

I hope my information helped someone with the hateful issue of pain of urine retention, or related problems like frequency, which I have 1 trip at 3am, rather than 5.. Best wishes to all the guys that prefer sleep over walking to and fro all night, God bless you all

Butch

Butch, I have probably been on Tamsulosin and or generic for about 20 years also, difference being I am 78. I surely agree that it does a great job.

Thanks for sharing your feedback guys. Sounds like Tamsulosin works well when taken as prescribed and/or if you don't stop treatment abruptly... This makes me wonder though, when it comes time to discontinue the medication, is a weaning process necessary or do doctors tend to prescribe Tamsulosin as a life long treatment for urinary/prostate complications? If the latter, I sure wish pharmaceutical companies would start focusing more attention on curative measures rather than just keeping things at bay. But it is helpful to know that Tamsulosin can be reliable.
