This is crazy, bad weather often delays shipments. You also need to check your state laws regarding the time frame in your state to give you the balance on a rx. Although, it is up to the pharmacist. Often the pharmacist will refuse to do it because if soemthing happens and a shipment doesn't get in on time, the patient loses the balance on the rx and had to get a new rx and teh pharmacist is blamed.

I was wondering the same thing: could it be due to her age? Though, I understand and do not understand why a person with a legit prescription cannot get it filled. What gives these pharmacies the power or authorization to fill or not to fill a prescription. I can think of only one reason, but I would prefer that they be absolutely sure: I believe that if a pharmacy suspects abuse they can deny but when you have a ligit script and you come with a new one on the exact day and not a day early why should they deny? Once pharmacy was filling my oxycodone & oxycontin and out of nowhere suddenly said they don't have any and won't be getting any. I was dumbfounded and had no idea why. I had just broken my femur bone and part of my hip and it was replaced with a metal rod and screws.............It was also found out that my osteoporosis (as I have had many fractures from simple falls) had gotten extremely severe................anyway, I have been fortunate to find another pharmacy who does fill my prescription every 28 days when I do come in with a new prescription. I had no idea how thankful I should be................Still though don't know why the first pharmacy suddenly said no...........AND it's the same Company, just a different store..............I wish you the best in finding help.

I normally fill all my Rx's at my local CVS because they're closest to my house but on occasion if they don't have my medication in stock I'm forced to take it elsewhere and I also ran into the "We won't fill your Rx for no reason whatsoever" scenario. Walgreens seems to be the worst for this issue and they gave me no reason whatsoever as to why they wouldn't fill my Rx. The pharmacist was this twenty-something kid who treated me like sh** the moment I presented my Rx to him - why he acted this way towards me I couldn't say but those are the facts, and it wasn't because I acted mean, angry, upset, or looked weird (whatever that may mean), nor was it because I said or did anything that would otherwise cause such a response. I was pleasant and alert and there was no reason for anyone to refuse service in this scenario yet the pharmacist still chose to act like an ahole towards me and treat me like dirt all while refusing to fill me Rx. Go figure . . .

It's beyond me why some of these pharmacists treat legitimate Rx holders so poorly and/or disrespectfully but they not only do it, they get away with it with absolutely NO accountability whatsoever, as the default assumption is if you happen to have a pain med Rx refusal then it must be that you're either an addict, or were rude to the pharmacist, or God knows what else it could be. Either way if they refuse to fill your Rx the company will always, Always, ALWAYS side with the pharmacy and will by default look at you like YOU are the problem. My incident was a total mystery and I've never understood why this kid treated me like dirt but they seem to give these pharmacists carte-blanch in terms of who they want or don't want to provide service to, and if they magically decide they don't want to fill your Rx they not only won't fill it, but also won't even give you a reason and will then inform you to "leave the store". I've never been treated so poorly as I was at Walgreens pharmacy, and I've NEVER had trouble at any store for any reason at *ANY* time in my life until the encounter at Walgreens with my Rx. They wouldn't fill it and wouldn't even tell me why, and when I inquired why I was promptly told to leave the store because they "couldn't help me". That was the freakiest thing ever but they do it and get away with it every DAY.

I understand what you are saying, but they use that as retaliation if you don't meet their criteria or standards. If you walk in to a lot of pharmacy's here in Hawaii you are judged by your looks race or grammar, there's a rare chance of getting any pain medication prescription filled.I'm not saying anything that others here know this to be absolutely true. They judge you has soon as you give them your script, their demeanor changes right at that moment. It's so sad that they can say who gets their meds and who doesn't,and actually think that they are doing the right thing. When you ask them anything like when will you get some in or can you check with your other stores if they have it there, they will always tell you I don't know when it will be in or we can't call the other stores,I'll say can you find out when its do in or why can't you call your other locations.Every time same response Oh we don't know when it comes in plus I don't think that medication will be in.So I let him know that two of your other stores will call their other stores and check, and the manager will say will that's them not me.I just shake my head and say I'll check back later and his response will be we probably won't have any then. What I didn't tell him was that I just came from one of their other locations and they were out,but called the store that I was leaving and guest what they said yes we have a lot in stock,so I went over there in ten minutes and you heard what was said. Most of these stores will tell you that they can't order the meds you need in advance and I'll tell them that your main office said yes you can especially when you've been picking up from us the same meds for seven years, and their response will be.I'll call them later and find out.But of course they don't.So just to let you all know you can contact people who can help, like States Board of Pharmacy.if they find persons who REFUSE to fill a valid on time prescription are in essence"practicing medicine.Or you may contact ADA and file a complaint chronic pain patients which I am we meet this criteria.and let them know that you've been discriminated against. Then there is HIPAA -is for people who are trying to get their meds and the same time, having the pharmacy staff talking out loud about your private health information PHI in a manner that every one in that pharmacy can hear. That's when you can file a HIPAA complaint. So just remember we do have rights and no the pharmacy staff is not GOD.They need to be a lot more understanding when we come in to pick up our meds that we had our lives changed by some unfortunate incident that one of the things we are doing to live a better life and less painful one is to make sure we can get our prescription filled on time and not be judged looked down at but mostly NOT LIED TO about something so simple having my meds in stock
One last thing what happened to us,can one day happen to one of you pharmacy staff members or a loved one,you never know.KARMA!!

Oh goodie! I get to answer a fun one! And I've got the exact right answer straight from the horses mouth. You know, they're "doctors." Doctors of Pharmaceutical Medicine. They rarely are addressed as such. These are the people who didn't get into med school. Bad grades, low MCAT, no $$, family issues-whatever. At some point, the majority of these glorified pill counters dreamed of someday becoming an M.D. Reason 2: The DEA stays up their a$$ and you-know-what rolls downhill. My sister refers to herself as a legalized drug dealer. Look up the numbers on how many medications that are prescribed are narcotics.
I hope that doesn't sound like I am defending them; my contempt for the medical community is complete. I've never heard of such things in my state, but then again I'm so far past getting anything written in the first place all my dealings are quite innocuous.

I know it's a major pain, seems like no pharmacy wants to fill anymore pain meds. The big companies like CVS and Walgreens are the worst, I avoid these places like the plague and go to smaller places, but then again I have no insurance so I pay cash. The best bet is to go mail order out of the state of Fla. Once you get it down you will get your meds on time.. Also, check out your local news, WESH in Orlando has done reports on pharmacies who will not fill meds for pain patients, contact your local news, write your local newspaper and state reps of both Houses. Complaining to CVS or walgreens will not help, they don't care, they have their own policies about filing pain meds.
I do not have these problems because I do not have insurance for my doctor or meds..

I am 59 years old.I broke my back,my neck, broke my jaw,I am fused together I have ososteoporosis. I was on roxycodone for 13 years that was the only thing that helped my pain. I got tired of trying to get my scripts filled so I started methadone. I am still suffering a lot but now I am having trouble even getting that filled. I had the same pharmacies for 7 years and they got greedy just like so many of them, they didn't want to fill insurance, but if you could pay 2500.00 to 3500.00 cash they would fill them. The chain pharmacies they look at you and if they don't like your looks they won't fill them. I have osteoporosis and I am missing a lot of my jaw bone I don't have teeth so they automatically think I am a junkie,it do sent matter how I lost my teeth,it is what they see. Pharmacies have to much power. They need to be held responsable. Thank you jerry

WESH 2 did a half hour special Friday at 7:00p called State of Pain, Rx Crisis. It was the first special from our POV--and how difficult it is for legitimate pain patients to fill prescriptions. They followed several patients, including a quadriplegic and cancer-4 patient who couldn't fill their Rx's.

Everybody blamed everybody else for the problem, but what was evident is that pharmacists are just plain scared to fill any Sch-2 narcotics because of the DEAs pressure. Despite what pharmacists say (according to DEA) there are no quotas, no distance restrictions, no regulation on IR and ER combinations, as Walgreens often requires. While the distributors may adhere to their own guidelines on amount dispensed, there is no set limit by the DEA.

Sadly, it is this ambiguity that has everyone scrambling in fear, turning away perfectly legitimate Rx's. Pam Bondi has wrote the DEA asking for clarification so that pharmacists and wholesalers can have a better grasp on what these rules are so that the DEA just can't arbitrarily shut someone down.

It is only obvious that with a rapidly aging population of boomers--not to mention Florida's destination as a retirement locale, that there will be a greater need for pain Meds in this state than in some others. And while Bondi can now gloat that Florida doesn't have any of the top narcotic dispensing Dr.s in the top 10, the situation in Florida has not improved for the suffering pain patient--and this despite the pill mills that have been closed.

WESH is going to follow up on this story so I suggest that all of you who still have problems, email or contact WESH and tell them your story. It appears that someone is finally listening to these problems--but keep the pressure on them until they make the changes needed.

Does anyone know where to fill a prescription for oxycodone 15's, without insurance?

You should be able to get it filled anywhere as long as you have the cash to pay for it.

You should tell us your location. I still use Walgreens, but they have so many restrictions--and unless your a regular, they may not fill it. Publix and certain Walmarts fills for a couple friends I know. If not, you can try any Mom/Pop--but they'll usually charge you a fortune.

Sadly doctors are being forced into bad situations, not many GP anymore, now they are being forced to become specialist, technically "pain doctor specialists" meaning they will only prescribe schedule 2 drugs. My pain doctor cannot write me blood pressure medicine, water pills, xanax, etc. I have to go to another doctor and if you get valium, elivil or xanax they think you are seeing too many doctors. I stopped taking valium because I need my pain meds. no big deal, but here is the crazy thing, they will not write me xanax or valium because of the street connection with pain meds and certain benzos.. Yet they will write me restoril (temazepam) which is a benzodiazepine to sleep but not valium or xanax, not that I care, they all work...

Drs can write rxs for any Med they want to. But it is up to each individual drs what rxs they write. Some drs will write rxs for pain meds and Valium and elavil and some won't. It also depends on why you need the Med. If you need elavil for nerve pain or Valium for muscle spasams that is one thing. But if you need elavil for depression and Valium for anxiety, that isn't his field.

Hi Comments-it is presently June 2015 and I see you were writing in 2011. I, too, have been trying to rectify this problem-Florida seems to be the worst but this is a nationwide problem. I have valid pain and valid prescriptions but am sick to my stomach every time I have my scrip in hand and start the 24/7 pharmacy hunt. Desperation sets in after approximately the first ten that I go to. No matter what I try-such as discrimination; legal actions; threats of litigation, they shrug it off and invariably blame the manufacturing companies. The pharmacy I went to for years refuses to carry oxycodone any longer after several robberies. Some express sympathy but still claim they're out. It's a nightmare. I've written extensively about this problem and I wonder if you ever made any progress in the past couple of years? If so please start writing about your journey. Thanks.

If you are on Medicaid HMO in Florida, you will suffer in pain. Its been three years. Doctors here are trash. Money hungry with no care or compassion for patients. They are omnipotent and needing mental health themselves.

And, I don't abuse the drugs. I take the same as I was taking before 2011 when I can get them. My medicaid would pay for them if they were prescribed but I am not wasting my time going to a worthless Florida non-educated Doctor who just wants to rape me and Medicaid by giving a non FDA approved non interventional torture to make my pain 10 times worse.

I am 56 and on pain medication for a host of problems. I have L4 & L5 ruptured disk with Sciatica. I have Fibromyalgia. I have Arthritis in 70% of my joints. I have neuropathy in my feet, though I do not have Diabetes. I have muscle spasms even while taking potassium.
My doctor wrote me two scripts. one was for Hydrocodome 10/325 take every 4 hours (180) plus 15mg of Morphine every 12 hours. My pharmacist would not accept this amount and I had to go back to the doctor for 120 of the Hydrocodone. This past month he said i had to get the script for under 100.

My husband has diabetes. He has neuropathy in both feet. Ghost pains in both feet where toes use to be (he has lost 2 on each). He has 2 ulcers on each foot that the doctor is trying to heal. He also has leg pain from past DVT's. He is to take 15mg Oxycodone every 6 hours. He was getting 150 a month. The pharmacist made him get the script changed to 120 a month. Then the next month we were told he could no longer get 15mg that he had to get 10s or 20s. So his doc wrote the newest script for 20mg, 120 a month. This passed month the pharmacist said he needed to ask for no more than 90 and add Morphine as the longer acting. I tried to explain that my husband gets very sick to his stomach on morphine, hydrocodone and Dylantin. Oxy's are the only thing he can take. Why, Why, Why do they have to treat us like drug addicts when we dont even get our new pain meds filled until the time to do so. this is so sad!!! We are now at the mercy of a pharmacist that treats us like drug addicts..Most pharmacies wont even carry the meds for anyone.

Debra
